What i hate about tiktok is that if you search for a topic, the results pretty much never update. If you search for a particular account, it's easy to see their latest videos, but if you search for a particular hobby or tag or whatever, there's no way to get specifically the latest uploads to that tag. It's just the same couple dozen "top rated" results, no matter how much time has passed.

One thing to consider in a case like this where you have a story that should be told but no pre-existing platform is to at least post it places and hope it will gain some traction. KZbin comments definitely aren't the place, but depending on the level of work you are willing to do and your abilities please consider something like creating a video or writing your experience up somewhere. If your story is compelling (which it sounds like it is), then creating some form of sharable content can be a good way to get that story out even if you don't have an existing audience. Definitely not guaranteed, but even something like writing this up as a medium blog and sharing the story on social media/reddit/twitter/etc has at least the potential to attract eyeballs.

My biggest problem with the TikTok algorithm, as someone with severe health/medical OCD and anxiety, is that whenever I block a term it almost seems like I'm recommended more of that topic than if I had just ignored it. For example, if I block terms such as "dentist, nurse, doctor, heart attack", I'll be immediately served with content tagged as "root canal, surgery, heart palpitations, and hospital". It's incredibly important for my meatal health that the content I want blocked, is not used against me.

They know exactly you blocked the content. They know exactly what you like. Tiktoks algorithm is designed to get you to watch as much as possible, which is why it's not showing you 100% of what you want, but only a certain percentage because you searching for the right content is time on the app (and I imagine is measured higher than fulfilling user requests all of the time). Edit: they also know what content gets the most traffic and that is peddled to you at any chance possible (but not so much that you think your actions don't completely matter). And while I like that there's so much content on it, I also feel discouraged to actually engage with content I like because I know the second I like something, or watch it for too long it's gonna take up like 80% of my fyp. As much as I like a thing, I don't want that thing to be the only thing I see. Like I legitmately stopped engaging with content of a show I adore because I was sick of seeing it SO much. I also watched one of those text to speech reddit story videos for just a little bit too long and then they started appearing every other video, I didn't even like it or share it or anything. It's so frustrating.

They should just remove the option to select "Not Interested" because it straight up does not do anything. I long press and choose this option on every single video or LIVE I don't want to see and it does absolutely nothing. It's just a constant onslaught of content I do not care about and will never meaningfully interact with. People begging for money, people trying to drag out a 30 second story because they're desperate for viewers to watch up to the minute mark, people repeatedly slapping the same 3 pop songs over any random content they can think of, just pure garbage that the app doesn't let you filter out. The idea of curating your FYP or "training the algorithm" is just an illusion.

i feel like apps and platforms in general are becoming worse, and borderline anti consumer. like youtube is not much better. and i dont even mean in regards to not recommending channels you are subscribed to, people really like to complain about that, but i mean theres a tab called subscriptions where everything will show up there, its not like its impractical. but the biggest issue is just variety of content it recommends you aswell. i remember discovering interesting smaller channels back in the day in the good ol youtube rabbit holes where you would just follow the recommended videos on the recommended tab, nowadays it either just recommends you more of what creator you are watching, more of the same type of content or just the normal stuff on your front page, wich also sucks in terms of variety. and the worst part there used to be a time where you could somewhat manipulate the algorythm, but now it feels like a never ending battle where i wither constantly do it, or eventually is just gonna regress to a default state wich now usually has an agenda behind it, like for example the shops.

My time spent on TikTok has almost halved several times in the last 6 months. Everyone is selling you something, and that something is nothing. It's junk. Garbage. A formerly $5 product marked up and back down to a false sale of $45. Why are mass-produced ghost figurine night lights that you plug into an outlet almost $30? Because everyone needs to get their piece of the pie before the consumer ultimately receives their massively overpriced garbage.

It feels like they're just trying to suck as much money out of it as they can before they get banned, which, obviously, is hurting anyone using the app. I rarely ever go on it any more and like you said, if I dont immediately swipe past a video, then I just get the same content over and over for a week. The algorithm is seriously broken especially when you consider how it was hailed as the best algorithm of the various platforms. It's a mess and I really don't think tiktok cares

Between the QVC style lives that keep popping up every other video and the almost intentional lag sometimes when it's a video you're trying to press down to hit "not interested", it'll keep showing you more because you watched it long enough. Like, if it let me actually select "not interested" in time, this wouldn't be an issue. And I swear there's something going on where it swipes you into the shop tab despite you clearly swiping up on your feed. It really is becoming frustrating to even scroll on there, let alone post. Although, I have noticed a weird black mirror thing where sometimes I'll verbally complain about something and close out of the app, then suddenly when I reopen the app the problem is resolved, if only for a brief moment.

I just feel like tiktok creators stopped caring about creativity since the app handed out money at all. You could say the same about most social media. Tiktok sounded especially bad for pushing misinfo, ragebait, drama, product placements, and even bite-sized chaotic creativity all because it was what got clicks, not because it's what they're passionate about.

The comment about TikTok now being Twitter: Video Edition hits the nail on the head. I used to be a small-ish tiktok creator (12.8k followers at my peak) but I've since privated my account and stopped posting entirely, with the exception of the occasional mutuals-only post. I posting slowed initially because other things were happening in my life and TikTok was no longer a major priority, and I wasn't really getting any traction on most of my cosplay or alt fashion videos anymore anyways. Then Hazbin Hotel came out, and first I saw the cosplays, and then I saw the comments *responding* to the cosplays. People were *mean*. And then I saw cosplayers responding to them, and people talking about how people now post "cringe content" (read: fans of things having fun being fans of things) that they've farmed from conventions, or how they'd gone viral because someone decided to put them on TikTok for being "cringe". In the time I'd been away, the audience for cosplays on TikTok had moved from genuine fans of things also having fun to people who wanted to mock a person's appearance or comment things like "brainrot" when someone is expressive in cosplay. At that point, I decided to private my account and leave it behind. While I'm not really upset by people commenting those things, I didn't want to be in the middle of an environment that negative. I think the only reason that I'm still on TikTok is because I have mutuals I've bonded with, and sending videos that made me think of them is an easy way to keep in touch with people. Which sucks, because I genuinely love the core mechanic of TikTok: filming silly little videos to music

Apps like Tik Tok or Pinterest are very different in certain countries. I live in a small country so I get the modern layout of the app but none of the shop features, pushing of lives, etc. I barely get ads and only get my interests in my for you page alongside some very popular videos (mostly interesting or funny ones). Whenever I travel I don’t open any social media app cause I get bombarded with stuff and I can’t be bothered. So the moral of the story is that if they wanted to they would :)

I'm in a better mood, way less anxious, which means I go out and do things with people, which improves my mood further, and has made me truly productive outside of work for the first time since covid started.
