I needed this video....Fort Myers Beach has been our vacation destination for many, many years. My husband and I watched your shelling videos together, it got us through the cold winters here in the North. We looked forward to his retirement in 4 years, and the rebuilding of our little piece of heaven we call FMB. Sadly he passed away a few weeks ago. I don't see myself going back without him, so your videos will be a blessing to me.

Merry Bee, I am so sorry to hear about your Husband 😢 I too became a widow (at a fairly young age, 48). I send my deepest heartfelt sympathy and mega prayers to you. Maybe someday you'll be able to go to FL with a family member, or a good friend (save your $ and split the cost; I understand about your income possibly being drastically reduced - happened to me). Nevertheless, you have wonderful memories to cherish. And, we can live vicariously thru Sharmon and her fab shelling/ beach walk videos. Take care and pamper yourself 🙏 🐚 ⛱️ ❤

I beachcomb on the south east coast of Australia, and we have only 3 of the shells you collected today - angel wings, rose petal tellins, and moon snails - stacks of them! We have none of the other species you found here in Oz, which is fascinating, to see how different species are scattered under the seas and sent by the tides around the world. The best shell I ever found was a big paper nautilus, in pristine condition, just lying on top of a jetty where the tide had washed it up - this was on a suburban beach in Melbourne - amazing! I love how respectful you are about not collecting live shells, and well done for picking up horrible plastic litter - I do the same, and despair at those people who just walk past it, pretending not to see it. I truly believe that picking rubbish off the beach is the debt we owe Mother Nature - it's payback for all the joy the ocean gives us.
@SWFBeachLife8 ай бұрын
I agree 100%!!! I hear people say, "Oh, I pick up garbage when I have my other bag" - as if they couldn't put it in their pocket or in their shell bag like I usually do. Well, I'm late to the party again! I had a late night last night, not even getting home until after my bedtime, late but happy! I had dinner with my new "employer" at her house. Goodness, gracious, Beach Angel! Maybe I should spare an angelic being just to watch over you!😅 Those rollers are definitely being pushed onshore by the wind! A very wise man once said that pride goes before destruction...😮 I'm just glad that you and your trusty backpack are okay, along with your gear. Those ducks look a little confused, as well, so they may well be lost, poor things. We had our over eighty temps these last few days. I just took on another garden to tend, too, wouldn't you know! I guess you'll be warmer, too, very soon. Wow, experience and knowledge won the day! You found a sheller's paradise! I was given some lovely Sanibel shells yesterday, but I gave them to the older lady I am now "working" for. She was blinded by a TIA and I really wanted to cheer her up. She loved them, especially the spiky spiny jewelboxes and the lettered olives! I was also given a very large, heavy white starfish and a giant lion's paw scallop by the same person who shared her shells. Those treasures will go into my new (to me) glass front sea shell case. I used to really love post-storm and on-shore windy day shelling! I've been nearly dunked by rogue waves, too, so I can sympathize, Sharon. How I love to see you exclaim in a whispery voice, "It's SO PRETTY!" It makes my heart smile! I thought I saw a closed operculum on the dirty crown conch, or was I mistaken? Maybe it just looked alive...I wasn't able to see it too well. Good on you, Sharon, for being such a good garbage collector! You were well rewarded for your cold saltwater bath! So glad that dunking wasn't for nothing! Belated love to all of you, especially to you, my Beach Angel, from Rebecca the Lost Mermaid

You know I love my critters so I can assure you, no live crown conchs were taken from the beach! That being said, I was doing some research and stumbled upon a video where a gentleman was eating what appeared to be HUNDREDS of crown conchs! They are wonderful defenders of seagrass, eating algae that can harm it, but those buggers aren't so good for clams and oysters, so they are considered pests. Crazy right?

I walked over and didn't realize how soft the sand was at the very edge of the water as the tide was rolling out, I sank into the sand up to my knees within seconds, where I was fighting, and struggling, nearly taking me into the drop off beneath the churning water. Okay, I absolutely wait with bated breath for your video’s every week. Love them!!! But I have a question, I think we need to start a drinking game…..every time you say “Florida Fighting Conch” we need to take a sip!!!” Lol I’m just kidding. But Sunday is my husbands Saturday so, I find myself playing! lol I live in Texas and am moving to the Port Arthur area. I’m not sure what the shelling is like there, but I have gone to San Padre’ Island and have found quite a few angel wings. I have given them as gifts to the special people in my life. If you ever want to hit up the Port Arthur coast let me know. I have a nice guest room for you to stay in!! Keep up the beautiful SW Florida beach tours.

Thanks so much for the room offer! And people would be BOMBED if they drank every time I said Fighting Conch - LOL!

Glad you survived your impromptu swim, and that all your equipment made it too!!! I fell in in February at Orange Beach, Alabama. It was so cold and I couldn’t stop laughing. I had to go out to my car because I had already checked out of the hotel and get some dry clothes and shoes and then re-enter the hotel lobby to go find a place to clean up and change. 🤣😂🤣 It was a super fancy resort and a nice couple saw me soaked in the parking lot rummaging through my car. I explained that I had fallen in trying to reach a shell for my friend and they laughed and asked me if I had gotten the shell. I had and it made my friend happy. 🥰 Totally worth the dunk I took. 😂

And it's a great story too right? I wasn't all that happy when I first took my dip, but I do realize it certainly adds interest to my story 😂 I'll be better prepared next time!

Thank you for the nice video. It has probably been 10 years since I visited Sanibel Island from my home in central Florida. There are some long-term residence in Florida. We would like our beaches left as you found them. I understand it must be really exciting for you to be able to walk on the beach in the early morning beaches in Florida. However, Many are being destroyed beyond repair not only by mother nature, but by visitors to the beach. Keep in mind So it is against the law in the state of Florida to retrieve live ocean shells, starfish, and sand dollars. So if you’re shelling, please make sure you are picking up the shells dead sea creatures. And thank you for taking live mollusks and sea creatures back to the ocean.

The sweet spot for me last December was after the jette/hotel where you fell. It was a little further up past there where I talked to the sweet older man you talked with also and the area right before the mud was where I found so many tulips, murex and crowns. It was full of those! I have dipped my murex and whelks and they have come back with full color in the Acid magic. I was so excited to see all the colors come out so brightly. Thanks for the info. Love visiting Ft Myers beach with you whenever you go!!

I always make a point to say hi to Paul when I see him and you described pretty much EXACTLY the area I like to shell. The shells were a few yards more south, but at least they showed up! I sure wish there was an easier way to access that part of the beach!!
@revmomvpable8 ай бұрын
Yes. There used to be more beach there. It all looks different. Our family group rented an airbnb a block off Estero and 2 blocks down so we came out on the south side of the hotel right at the sweet spot. I spent most of the week there and down by the bridge. So much closer than the trek from Seawatch which still isn’t ready. It turned out great. Can’t wait til next year. Maybe sooner.

@@revmomvpable I stayed at Bella Lago in 2017 - right across the street from that access point to the beach and moved here in 2019. FMB made me move here!! ❤️

I’m glad you did! Mom and Dad bought the Seawatch timeshare about 35 years ago so we have loved FMB for a long time. I have loved your Sunday night show/posts so much! Many shellers love your escapades and beautiful shells. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to live vicariously through them !!! Maybe we will meet someday out picking up shells. ❤😊

I had anxiety watching you pass up all those beautiful shells. Lol. I just wanted to reach through the phone and grab all of the shows that you were passing by. Lol. I have never been to Florida, but I want to come so bad and collect shells. Maybe someday I can get down there and collect me some of those beautiful shells.

Yes! I see them so often sometimes I skip over them but I'm going out tomorrow afternoon for a sunset shell tour and I'll try to show all the shells that are there - not just the ones I'm going to collect! 😃

A little bit of 30% cleaning vinegar and some mineral oil works really nicely on the Cockles.

I had tried vinegar and it made my shell white 😳 I've also heard that milk can work too!

I’m not sure which shells you’re referring to, but I’m guessing is the pen shells
@SWFBeachLife8 ай бұрын
You are likely referring to the Atlantic Giant Cockles. I call them "beach bowls."
