That little hermit crab was so cute! He really took advantage of you while picking him up. And the shells..... all those paper figs, you've got to love them. 😍 It's always so much fun to see how the shells clean up after you treated them. Good evening, dear Beach Angel and all my beach-loving friends! I hope you've had a great week! Here in the mountains of East Tennessee, we're expecting six to eight inches of snow and temps approaching the sibgle digits over the next few days. Brrr! 🥶 Wow! Y'all did get clobbered! I was watching the weather and observed that the wind was pushing water on shore. Hope you remembered that sea horses get pushed way up the beach! Those sharks are so cool! When I was training to be a lifeguard, nearly fifty years ago, we were taught to punch a shark to discourage them. Their skin feels like sandpaper! Fortunately, I never had to do that! You're finding really pretty shells, big ones, too! I'm so happy for you! Oh, Beach Time! I wait all week for the waves which soothe my nerves and whisper their secrets to me. That looks like a gator to me! So glad you made a good haul today, Beach Angel! Those shells really cleaned up well. This always reminds me to clean my shell collection! Much live to all of you! Be blessed as you move forward with your lives. ❤🐚🧜🌹

We just flew into Fort Myers for a spontaneous 2 day vacation - on Saturday we drove by Ft Myers beach, but it was so crowded and traffic was so bad we didn't even bother stopping. We did stop and lucked out on a place to park a bit further south where the crowds had thinned out a bit. We had no idea that Florida's west coast was so good for finding shells. I could not believe my eyes with what we were finding... I was raised in New Jersey and we did occasional trips to the "Jersey shore" - but the only nice shells I ever saw were in the tourist shops - LOL. Only now after our return home to NYS did we find out about the shell "hot spots" on the SWF coast. We're already planning our return for a few weekdays to hit up Sanibel and Captiva. Oh, and as a newbe, the FFC is my favorite.

I’m not a shark expert by any stretch but I’m guessing they were bull sharks. Lemon sharks have two large dorsal fins - the second near their tail - and I don’t see that on these. What a fun day at the beach!

Bull shark seems to be the consensus. It was such a fabulous experience!

I think that was a turtle skull ❤

Turtle skulls are VERY heavy. They need strong jaws to crush the shells of the snails they may want to eat. Good idea though!

I absolutely love your videos. Shelling is one of my absolute favorite things to do, but hard to do from freezing cold Minnesota! I can’t wait to be back down there in March!

March will be here before you know it. Stay warm beach friend!

I just love being with you on the beach. 🏝️ I do really appreciate the Florida Fighting Conch’s too (even if they are “rookie shells,”) but I also love moon snails 🐌. I like tulip shells 🐚 and those cut ribbed arks are neat. I sort of liked that moon snail clustered with all those barnacles. It gave an interesting look to it. It must have taken you a while to pop em all off. The Acid really does the trick in the end. Can’t go wrong with it. Happy shelling!

I'm with you on the Fighting Conchs. *Obsessed* with 'em, even if they're allegedly basic. TEAM FIGHTIES forever!

Wow-the sharks are shallow. Based on the depth, I would say bulls. And the fun thing is that when you see predators, that means their food is available. So see the food (like a ball of bait fish), assume those who eat it are there. And that goes the same for if you see dolphins, assume there are sharks because they eat the same thing. Honestly, I don’t know why I still go in the ocean, lol!

Makes perfect sense! It was so thrilling so see those shark right in the surf like that!

I pick up every single fighting conch. I can't resist. You are so much more discerning than I am! 😂

So far I have 2 big bowls, a lantern, and a bucket filled with them. I'm going to need a bigger house if I'm not more careful 🤣

Hi Sharmon! What a nice collection of shell goodies you found this time! You asked for those of us who also have a love of Florida fighting conchs to comment on the specifics we like. Ok. I like the point on them and the greater the twist it has below the point, the better. I also like the knobs on the sides. The bigger the knobs, the better I like it. And one of the best things about the conchs is their incredible variations of color and patterns. If I lived in Florida, I'd have a large collection of them. But I also think calico scallops are gorgeous for their colors and patterns. Truth be told, I have a thing for paper figs too. I have one that I bought at a shell shop and I love the spiral on the top and the lightweight almost opaque body of it. I liked everything you found today. (That large older whelk with the hole in its side would look neat with a succulent growing in it!) You mentioned that you thought that the west coast might have a greater variety of bivalves. Well since I live on the west coast, I can tell you variety or not, none of our shells are as colorful as those found on the east coast, not even the giant moon snail shells. By the way, that moon shell you cleaned up turned out GORGEOUS! Have a great week!

I think the East Coast shells are more special since they are so much harder to find! And I too like the spikeyness of the fighting conchs, along with the beautiful shape and colors and patterns. I have a "thing" for most of the shells I find 🤣
