SWFL Eagles_ "Busy Bouncy Ball" E23 Scores A+ In Branching & Landings 03.14.24

My four hours at the nest this morning found E23 very active branching to and 'dancing' on the veranda, attic and outer attic/curved branch. E23 is such a joy to watch. E23 made strong and confident flights & landings and appeared very much in control of his/her fancy footwork. E23 watched the area intently while perched. At 10:00am, M15 and F23 were spotted perching in a Norfolk pine tree across the road watching the area. I am sure E23 could see them as well as they could see E23. E23 is 74 days old today.

Miss Harriet bad she really was excellent mom F23 very inexperienced why do M15 F23 leave nest at night not protecting E23 from owl strikes? I mean they are scarcely around like Harriet was with M15 😢

Harriet and M15 perched usually in a front pine or the west pasture or NW power poles. When their fledglings were struck by the owls, they were not there. We cannot judge the eagles' choice where to roost at night. F23 and M15 have come to the nest tree and nest many times to protect E23 during the overnight storms and high winds. And remember the fledgling/juveniles need to gain independence in order to survive on their own when they leve the nest area for good. Hope that helps.
