I gotta say you cut a straighter line with that handheld bandsaw than I've ever cut in my table saw! That was like watching someone throw a perfect spiral.

Stainless. Otherwise you'll get chemical reactions with the tannic acid in the cedar and you'll end up with streaks.

how does the cost of this fending type compare to tht of a chain link fence for the same length? Also, How does it compare for time and effort? My daughter and I (mom) would like to try to do a fence ourselves but haven't decided on which type. She has a small (20 lb) dog that she need to have a protected space for.

Will a sawzall do the trick as well or do I need to bite the bullet and get a bandsaw like that? Just switching to postmasters my next job. Also buying the rhino you recommend.

I mean... you could use a sawzall, it's just not going to be nearly as easy to get a nice, clean, level cut. Maybe rent a bandsaw for a day?

@@SWiFence I’ve often thought this would be easy here in the Willamette Valley. I’ve done a few post master jobs. Day dreamed about pounding them in. This place is a soggy clay mess in wintertime. I’ve torn down plenty of pressure treated post cedar fences here without concrete in them but I haven’t felt comfortable trying this way yet. I did a test with a chainlink end post once to see how it would stay after a year or two. It stayed but definitely opened up a top gap in the soil when I started pushing back and forth in it by hand after all that time. I could definitely see doing this in a drier climate.

nice work! that seems like a lot of steel poll (>36") in the ground, especially for an open 48" high split fence. aren't the shorter (7'-6") polls a lot lower cost?

@@SWiFence I get it. have you tried a hybrid approach, by first digging a quick shallow 10" to 12" deep hole then pound 24 more inches and then come back later and fill the top of all the 10" holes with concrete ? It solves the wind with wet soil issue with minimum work and materials, etc. You might need to go a few inches deeper if there is deep frost line in your area.

Why in the world would you mark all over the stringers instead of cutting a spacer board to hold up between the pickets as you nail so the final product is cleaner?
@SWiFence2 жыл бұрын
Because the picket spacing between each pair of posts was just ever-so-slightly different, and we're obsessed with even picket spacing. 🙂 In other words, one spacer board would only work between one pair of posts, and at that point it was faster for us to take some quick measurements.
@toddformanek84953 жыл бұрын
Are these fence posts really $30+ each?
@SWiFence3 жыл бұрын
Yes but they’ll be the last ones you buy. Since putting the posts in place is the most expensive part of the fence it pays to spend a little extra to make sure they last.

Hi like your techniques, so why not use a two piece sliding template that lays ontop of framing between post that slightly adjustable then you wouldn’t have to use tape measure to calculate boarding distance would save so much time using tape measure 👍✌️ I might have just invented a patent or just quicker technique
