I am late in commenting on this Fun fact: The movie that Nozybro mentioned “I want to eat your pancreas” The singer Aimyon watched the movie, and got so touched she wrote this song for Dish (specifically Takumi who acted as the lead for the movie) The song’s lyrics directly referenced to the main character’s longing for the girl after (spoiler alert) she passed away He’d be happy if she returned even as a cat

In many japanese stories or metaphors, cats are considered to be fake and can symbolise ingratitude. (meaning they forget gratitude fast and are whimsical. but on the other hand bring happiness and luck with them) The typical one is "Neko wo kaburu", literally meaning "Wear a cat". And it¨s basically pretending to be innocent, pretending you are better than you actually are, hiding your true nature... So when you talk about someone being a neko it can mean they left you after pretending to be someone else. So basically you realised their true nature. Another take on this is the fact that cats are free animals so they tend to follow their instincts and needs, making another possibility why the loved person left and the comparison. Anyway, it is surely talking about a person using cat as metaphor, it's not about actual cat. (remember, he is talking about walking speed on the way home, about how he let her go, and "you have become a cat" meaning she wasn't actually a cat. then there is that thing about cats being whimsical explaining "if you feel like it, come to me side". also saying "I'll forget your face" isn't something you would actually say about cat xD)
