8.THE BRIEF The Architect's Wife

Episode 8. With almost no evidence in hand, Henry's case against an accused rapist falls to pieces, and the civil action he takes up on behalf of the victim tears his life apart. Couch surfing and fiscally reeling, he is unprepared to see his father is seriously ill.
The Brief follows the work of defence barrister Henry Farmer (Alan Davies), whose complicated personal life manages to overlap into his work. With an overbearing workload, debt and alimony payments to meet, as well as being in love with the wife of a prominent politician who won't leave her husband for him, Henry is forced to set his own demons to one side to tackle cases that only he can win. The show was described by the Radio Times as an "engaging blend of courtroom drama, suspense, intrigue and humour".

I agree with you- I think that Alan Davies had made such a famous name in the comedic oeuvre thatanything “straight” might have been taken less than seriously. I also loved Alan in the early versions of the off-beat “Jonathan Creek” series. He is razor-sharp in his wit. I love watching him perform.

I'm amazed that this delightful series ended so quickly. Perhaps its because these days so many TV and film producers insist that sex and violence sell. Well - this series is living proof that it isn't true. It was a pleasure to watch from start to finish without having to grimace over violence that makes you feel sick inside and the kind of sex that only falls short - just, of actual porn. Thank you so much for showing it.

The ending totally lifted my mood! I was so afraid the other result would happen and then I would begin to doubt her myself. And that would make me feel bad about my self as a woman. But he took responsibility for his anger and I could see then that he had wanted to blame her for it. But it was not to be. The blame was off of her.

This movie is great.Rape is real. There is so many emotions a woman goes through. A friend's daughter was so unfortunate . She was a teenager .she attempted suicide cause of this and the perpetrator got away. It makes me angry at the justice system. She has survived and gradually picking up the pieces of her life. A strong support system is important.

From what I've gleaned from British crime series about the nature of British marriages, I find it difficult to empathize with any of the characters in this story about a rape. Infidelity seems to be a way of life in the UK. Most characters seem ready to betray their significant others at the drop of a hat. One reaps what one sows. Accountability is never fun and games. One must live with it forever.

Why? The job of an attorney is to defend the client in the best way possible within the framework of the law. Morality and legality are not necessarily the same. No one bats an eyelid when a male witness is "harangued" by an attorney, so why should things be different for a female? Lawyers are there to do a job - whether they are representing the Crown or defence. Emotions should not enter the equation. Both sides are entitled to justice.

It didn't show defendant going to jail. It was a civil case for damages. In the UK would he be charged for a crime after the fact? Esp. since a similar one occurred elsewhere. Thank you..really enjoyed this episode.🇺🇸
