Whodunnit? was a British television game show that originally aired on ITV as a pilot on 15 August 1972, hosted by Shaw Taylor, and then became a full series, which ran from 25 June 1973 to 26 June 1978. The series was first hosted by Edward Woodward in 1973 and then, following his departure from Doctor Who, hosted by Jon Pertwee from 1974 to 1978. Each week it featured a short murder-mystery drama enacted in front of a panel of celebrity guests who then had to establish who the murderer was. Anouska Hempel and Patrick Mower became permanent panellists from series 3 onwards, with two guest celebrities each episode. The panel members could interview the remaining characters, with the proviso that only the murderer could lie. Each panellist could also request to see a short replay of one section of the initial drama, which would often include events as they occurred and flashbacks as seen and narrated by individual suspects. At the end the compere would reveal the murderer with the catchphrase "would the real whodunnit please stand up?".

Fun Fact: NBC did an American version of WHODUNNIT, shortly after ITV folded this series. This story was Americanized for the premiere; Jack Klugman played the victim. Ed McMahon was the MC, and the celebrity players included Melvin Belli and F. Lee Bailey. The NBC version was not a success ... but that's another story.

The great Geoffrey Palmer, who like Honor Blackman appeared in a Bond film (Tomorrow Never Dies), is the real star here. He had a long and successful career, and interestingly appeared in Doctor Who three times. By the time this show was aired, Palmer had already worked with Pertwee twice. The last appearance was in 2007 alongside David Tennant. He passed in 2020, aged 93. RIP.

as I am enjoying watching whodunit was surprised to see Edward Woodward rip and doctor who himself jon Pertwee as he was my favorite Docter and a couple I picked great serious but did they make anymore superb the quest I remember Wendy Craig butterflies pactick mower cop shows Richard o Sullivan man about the house with only him and Joyce de witt still alive the ropers gone and Suzanne Sommers Edward Woodward best equalizer binge it ❤
