They are absolutely not! They are wild piranhas and I will also tell you that he will do insane things that are extremely deadly because that’s just how he is. He knows very well it’s dangerous and things have gone wrong. For instance, one to,w he was attempting to capture an arapaima, and they got it netted, but it jumped and hit him in the chest. This left him with a severe heart problem. I’ve watched his show since I was five (no joke my dad actually let me, drove my mom mad😂) trust me, this guy knows what he’s doing and takes WAY to many risks, he has even put a lamprey on his neck and could hardly get it off! He’s melted the skin off his thumb trying to reel in a grouper, jumped right in a river teeming with piranhas, gotten malaria..TWICE, he even discovered a new species of arapaima and was the first person to film a live orfish.

The sad thing is that the reason why piranhas are known as "bloodthirsty killers" is because of a case of animal abuse that Theodore Roosevelt witnessed, where some people trapped a school of piranhas and starved them for days on end before forcing a cow into the water. I've personally raised many of these fish. They're not murderous or killers. They essentially serve the same function and operate on the same level as sharks in the ocean. They're the clean-up crew. If there's something dead or dying, they take care of it. The fact is, very few people have been attacked or killed by these fish, far fewer than by sharks, but that doesn't stop people from trying to portray them as something they're not for the sake of a TV show or movie. People who live with these fish in the Amazon actually view them as a good food fish and eat them regularly. Having said that, if they're really hungry and you do something stupid, you might soon wish you hadn't. Unlike sharks' teeth, piranha teeth are fixed extensions of the jaw itself and meet perfectly with the opposite jaw like a pair of razor sharp scissors. And their jaws are powerful enough to push those teeth right threw flesh, bone and sinew. I've seen them do it during my feedings. Sobering, yet fascinating to watch. These fish serve an important role in their ecosystem and deserve respect. If you're in a place that allows them, I would highly encourage any experienced aquarium hobbyist to give them a try. They're beautiful. If you have a large enough tank, with sufficiently thick glass, snake head cichlids are another species that are really fantastic. Just be careful when you feed them, and try not to be freaked out when they stalk you through the glass. They don't mean anything by it, really.

You apparently have never seen his show so I will tell you that he will do insane things that are extremely deadly because that’s just how he is. He knows very well it’s dangerous and things have gone wrong. For instance, one to,w he was attempting to capture an arapaima, and they got it netted, but it jumped and hit him in the chest. This left him with a severe heart problem. I’ve watched his show since I was five (no joke my dad actually let me, drove my mom mad😂) trust me, this guy knows what he’s doing and takes WAY to many risks, he has even put a lamprey on his neck and could hardly get it off! He’s melted the skin off his thumb trying to reel in a grouper, jumped right in a river teeming with piranhas, gotten malaria..TWICE, he even discovered a new species of arapaima and was the first person to film a live orfish.
