From www.swimmingpo... this video talks about four specific things that can close your pool immediately. They are:
1) Code BROWN
2) Lighting nearby
3) Feeling shocks in the pool
4) Turbid water
Safety is the most important thing when it comes to swimming pools and any of these issues represents a problem so series that the pool need to be evacuated immediately and closed to swimmers until the problem can be professionally addressed.

What are your thoughts on companies that recommend recirculating the pool water which removes all of the bad stuff in pool water, which then put the pool water back in? As opposed to completely draining the pool in AZ. Btw, our pool is heated.

I saw lightning hit a kiddie pool in Florida on vacation years ago. It was no joke!! Since then, lightning has freaked me out when in a pool.. For our pool, everyone out, no questions asked!

Good to know, thanks so much! Question for you, when bonding a pool can you have its own separate grounding rod or should that be tied into the homes grounding rod?
@Swimmingpoolsteve
@Swimmingpoolsteve Жыл бұрын
That is a question for a qualified electrician only. Adding into an existing bonding grid must be done the correct way or it has the exact opposite result and will induce a current transfer in the pool and potentially lead to a dangerous situation. Only a local qualified electrician will know the rules as they apply to you, your area, and your pool. Sorry I can not be of more help here.

@@Swimmingpoolsteve just had my bonding approved by our ESA and there is no grounding rod required. I'm also in Ontario. Is this normal. Only requirement was all metal pool equipment bonded to pool frame as well as wire mesh in the concrete. I do not have steel steps

Yes this is normal. Grounding rods not needed, and in general you can trust your local electrical authority. Those guys typically know their stuff very well.

I was travelling with family and at our hotel my young niece and nephew made a bee line to the pool. There were two other families there. The water was so cloudy I couldn't see the first step. I knew the pool should not have been open. There was a lifeguard present, so I asked him how many people were in the pool. He started to count swimmers then realized where I was going with that question. He got everyone out, verifying that each family had all their members accounted for. Then closed the pool. A neighboring hotel allowed us access to their pool, in a kind gesture of professional courtesy.

One of my colleagues tells a story about a commercial pool that was like this. Repeated visits over a few days pressuring them to close the pool did not work. They continued to keep the pool open even though you could barely see below the surface of the water. One night some kids broke into the pool to swim. While swimming they discovered a body in the bottom of the pool. It had been there for more than two days...while the pool had been open to the public the whole time. Terrifying stuff.

My pool is one year old this month, I upgraded it to a salt water pool. The package included a O-zone generator, anyway on Saturday the grand kids came over and wanted to go swimming, My grand son said he smells something in the pool, (I didn't) So I opened the skimmer lid and there was a dead rat floating in it, I took the basket out and threw it in the trash. I check the basket pretty often so I don't think it was in their to long, maybe a day or two. I left the pump running the rest of the day and all night, hopefully that will filter the water. The pool lady came by today and I told her about the dead rat, she said the water chemicals was still ok and she didn't see any problem.

Yeah, we see this all the time in the pool industry unfortunately. Chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, birds, raccoons, mice, rats...you name it. Common for critters at night to come to the pool to bathe, drink and poop. The racoon is the worst of the worst from a danger perspective due to chlorine resistant parasites they can have. Everything else is gross, but neutralized from regular chlorine levels. If you want to feel less gross about it in the moment it happens, hit the pool with some non chlorine shock.

Dang. I never thought of turbid water. Growing up we had an above ground Doughboy pool that was 3 ft around the perimeter and 5.5 ft in the center…..never saw the bottom rung of the ladder at the 3 ft depth. Ever.

@@drdrew3 Dang. You’re right. Maybe that’s why it turned green a couple times a season. Lightbulb moment.

Call the city health department. In some areas, fines are compounded daily until the pool is clear and sanitary.
