Calm, smart, experienced. If I'm going head to head with this coach I'd have to really be on my toes. I say that because I believe that should be the goal of every coach who considers himself or herself a professional. If you gave Bob a group of fifty age groupers tomorrow and told him those are the swimmers he had to coach for the next two years, you can bet he'd give them just as much enthusiasm, teach them from day one that each practice and meet counts, to race all training sets, etc. And at the end of those two years, they would become one of the best age group pre-senior groups around. I think it's important for average coaches of average swimmers to know that Bob isn't just a great coach because he was lucky and no coach who wants to do a really great job with swimmers and a career should be waiting for the right swimmers to come along. Great leadership starts with watching this interview again and mirroring what you can and adding in your own creative planning and problem solving and loving your swimmers as much as Bob does. Great interview -- let's keep the whole tide rising. Part of me wants Bob to be National Team Director or even in charge of it all -- but it's essential to have his talent in the trenches. It's also imperative to teach as many coaches who want to to become as effective and accountable as coach Bowman.

Seemingly we're still selling the sport as a hangover from Amateur days and playing catch -up , pardon the pun, with other pro sports such as tennis and football ⚽️

It feels like that the NCAA doesn't capture much interest, especially for audiences outside the US. Mentioning records like the 500-yard events tends to lose people quickly.🤔 And the program Bob refers to is quite unfamiliar to many, even though it is understandably a significant source of funding.

Thank you, Luke Hobson, for taking down Biderman’s WR. I’m hopeful now that his 200 LC WR will also go (to Hobson). The problem with that record, of course, is that Biderman was in a banned suit, and Phelps wasn’t, but pushed him to go as fast as he did. Should I not be thinking that if Hobson can get the Biderman’s SCM WR, he can get the same guy’s LC WR?

Phelps was also in a supersuit for his 1:42.96 (still the American record) and swam in a suit that would still be considered illegal today when he lost to Biederman in 2009 (wasn't a polyurethane suit, but did extend past his knees and came up over his shoulders which is no longer allowed)

@@greggassen5548it was a partly polyurethane suit he wore in 2008. biederman was full

@@greggassen5548 Yes, but Biderman’s suit was both. Phelps was in a slower suit, would have won in an Arena suit, but was working for Speedo. Do you think Hobson will go < 1:42.00?

Don't sleep on Popovici, he's the WJR holder in 1:42.97.

Being a person is exactly what frustrates me about British swimming....swimming comes secondary in the lives of many ...but maybe it's me as a coach that needs 2 get a life 😊
