The Shot Saving Series is now live on my website, hit the link below to head over and watch the trailer

Is it possible to achieve more distance by slowing down your swing? It may sound strange, but this technique can be incredibly effective. The key lies in how your swing feels, and a deliberately slower-paced swing can often result in increased distance with all your clubs.
In this video I show you using the Blast Golf Sensor how a slower paced swing can actually lead to longer shots. The great thing about this style of swing is that the slower pace also allows you to be more accurate giving you more precision with your added distance, and who doesn't want that!

Then how did I gain >10mph in swing speed, >30mph in ball speed, and hit it longer by doing the opposite of what you said in the video? lol

Great tip Chris. I’ve used both (admittedly not very often and I should) before and they do work. I’m definitely a rusher and don’t always get my weight to the left side. Please keep them coming.

It definitely works I play the senior T’s just for a change I played the white T’s and I out drove my usual t shots, just by swinging slower and deliberately!!!!👍👍!

Inconclusive test because your backswing was shorter in the fast swing compared to the slower swing
@ChrisRyanGolf

But that’s the whole point of the video Graham, when golfers try to swing ‘faster’ I often see shorter swings with quicker tempo, so they ‘feel’ faster when in reality the speed is less, that was the message in the video

@@ChrisRyanGolf maybe in amateurs. Make another comparison for when you full back swing and try to swing faster in a full swing. Just like how people try to swing out of their shoes with a driver and the ball goes 230 but they swing a better tempo and it goes 270 with both positive angles.

I don’t have a problem trying to “swing faster,” I’m more of a “swing harder” person. When I try to swing harder, I rarely get better results than my normal swings. I’m pretty sure it’s because I change my sequencing, leading with my arms, trying to get more power from my arms. I have gotten better with this, but I still forget from time to time, especially when I’m between clubs or when I start to doubt whether I have enough club and danger lurks on the near side.

I feel your pain. It's the ongoing battle with the chimp on your shoulder who no matter how smooth your takeaway is tells you to give it some on your downswing

Why I can’t swing within myself EVERY time is baffling. I see a wide open fairway and say “let’s put a little extra on this one” and off the planet it goes.

Haha, very common story that one I’d say lens, I’ve heard that all too often and it’s tough to not do it. Hopefully there are a few parts to this video that may help through

Slow your backswing yes for more control and rotation but a slower forward swing means less club head speed and less distance assuming same smash factor, dynamic loft and attack angle....
@ChrisRyanGolf

Yeah couldn’t agree more, that was the message, that often slower feeling swings with slower tempo can create higher speeds at impact

The back swing in the second swing looked shorter than in the first swing. Your method of timing the swings is not the way I usually see this done. I would have more confidence in a measurement that measured club head speed at impact.
@ChrisRyanGolf

Hey James, the club head speed data was on the screen, and this is measured at impact. The other data was showing the timing of the swing and how long the swing took, but the speeds were shown at impact

Chris, Im slow back swing, but down swing is super rushed. Just can't get it out of my mind or body to slow it down. When I do get a good contact hit, I hook it. I also have really bad trouble keeping my head down... please help
@ewmcdadesucks-gc2zi
@ewmcdadesucks-gc2zi 2 ай бұрын
@erichrnsberger that's because you're too slow. And slowing down makes that "rush" worse because you had no speed to begin with. Start your backswing faster, now you have more energy to start with for free. Next time instead of listening to Chris Ryan take a tip from the people who actually hit it long like Jack Nicklaus, Drew Cooper, Jason Zuback, and many others who would not teach you to hit it longer by slowing down.

i have slowed my swing to for better strike and launch conditions. by making the swing change i am about equal in total distance as my "hard" swing, big differences are my slow swing produces more height, way more consistent int he release and flies straighter. my question is how do i increase speed while maintaining the synced feel?
