The whole era/genre of sophisti-pop that briefly graced the UK in the mid 80s is a greatly under appreciated time in music. EBTG, Style Council, Prefab Sprout, Aztec Camera and those couple years of Joe Jackson’s Steppin Out era are my favorite bands of that time. There was some top notch songwriting going on, with post punk stalwarts, whom all of a sudden, weren’t afraid to be catchy and well-produced.

Sophisti-pop is exactly what i love the most from the 80s and 90s pop music. When i say i like 80s pop songs people think about the generic jumpy songs that we all heard, but not songs like this one, the instrumentation and melody is just superb, it's stuff that is very hard to find nowadays. The way they got the seagulls flying above and around Corinne is pretty neat. This song has some deep meanings. As they say, a message in the music.

Yes. Maybe I gave it some additional meanings with my rewrite here... www.flickr.com/photos/emotiroi/50135248801/in/dateposted-public/

Good lord, that hair-cut, that suit, and her move set. She's something else. What a banger.

For the last 10+ years I keep finding new (to me) amazing artists from the 80s! That decade's talent pool is endless!!

I'm 31 now. I remember hearing my mom listen to this group and this song when I was kid growing up. Back then I didn't care much for it. But just last week I inside of a CVS store. As I started shopping I heard this song begin to start up. I started thinking to myself, "this song sounds pretty cool starting up." I didn't even realize what song it was and who it was until the full song came into full play and I thought, "oh, this is that song that my mommy used to listen to. This is that group swingout sister." And ever since last week, I've been listening to swingout sister and resisting some other smash hits that they made that I didn't even realize were their songs until now. Songs like, "am I the same girl" and "breakout".

80s was THE decade. Glad I lived my formative years, in the 1980s! If I was to enter a contest, and you could only use one word to describe certain decades, the word I would use for the 80s would have to be FUN. 80s was the fun decade. Now, everything is so serious.
