Not every team is lucky enough to be able to tank for 10+ years to build a strong roster through the draft. Besides the way the NBA lottery works, a team can be bad for multiple seasons in a row and still get nothing worthwhile for it. When you’re a big franchise with stars in their prime, you can’t afford to wait 6 years to build a team, or you lose your young stars or watch them get too old. Y’all seem to forget the 2020 Lakers were “win now” team that was built of veterans, and they won a title. You’re just stuck on Warriors/Nuggets success and now you think every team can replicate that success via the draft.

Yes a franchise is lucky to have the opportunity to tank for 5-10 years to build a competitive roster through the draft. Most teams aren’t afforded that kind of patience, and constantly have to try to find a way to win in the immediate future. That’s why you see coaches get hired, and fired by that same team within 2-3 seasons. Not every team has a fan base big/loyal enough to keep the profit margins high while tanking like Knicks did. Because of their market, Knicks were still able to fill their stadium with fans all season long during that 10 years of tanking.

I do believe the Miami Heat era showed teams how to beat superteams. Especially the Spurs model of using good team basketball with good role players who play good defense. The Timberwolves were a good example of this on why they dismantled the Suns. I honestly just think that Luka is that good. There is something about a player with a good cast around him that has a killer instinct.

People need to give this team a chance, they literally have less than one season worth of games together. Their problem was trading DeAndre Ayton for a bum like Jusuf Nurkic, especially when Ayton had chemistry with Booker already, who’s known to struggle passing as a true PG. Throwing in Nurkic just made things worse. Beal was injured half the season, and Booker was injured for 2 months too. They have to learn how to play together, and now that they had a chance to see the trios flaws, they can get role players to fill those needs. I’m not saying the Sun will win a ring with this team, but I guarantee they don’t get eliminated in the first round next season. In fact I could see them going all the way to the western finals if they get a better center (I’m not sure how they would do that though lol)

Getting kd was a bad decision for suns. Although, it is rare to find a 30+ year old superstar level player not good at leadership but it is what it is. Waiving CP3 and getting Beal with that stupid contract and sacrificing that much draft picks is probably one of the biggest L any NBA team could ever take. Also, suns shouldn't have fired Monty Williams. Sometimes coaches become leaders when there is no one around. Monty led this Suns team to a NBA finals.

I think even their western conference run was relatively lucky. The Lakers were still far too beat up to put up a serious fight, the Nuggets were missing their 2nd best player, and the western conference finals was the first time Kawhi would pull his annual disappearing act in the playoffs. But, they weren’t a bad team by any chance, you don’t become a 2 seed and finals team purely by luck at the end of the day, so they still played Milwaukee well but Giannis outplayed Booker and Paul heavily. But I think the issue was that they thought they were closer than they really were, 2022 game 7 happens and then KD the next season. I just don’t know if they ever should’ve gone all in to begin with. They had the easiest run to the finals any west team has had in a while. They probably needed more time to bolster the roster before they fired on a KD trade
