We do not want to fuss about but start trying the indigenous cuisine of the island of Borneo, at least start trying some of it. Of course we are very aware that there is a lot of Malay and Chinese food too but of course this we already know. Right in the beginning of the visit we want to start trying the Dayak food (which is a lot of people named in one word). Today we are actually starting with the Iban (which is one of the main Dayak tribes). Let´s see how this went and what it tasted like. Good? Let´s see.
Anyway, let´s try to give this video a "like" and maybe even a comment, I would love to hear from you.
#kuching #iban #malaysianfood
Please don't skip the adds as this is what keeps us running, give the video a like and maybe even a comment if it is not too much to ask for as it then will be more present in todays KZbin algorithm.
In case you want to make a contribution feel free to sent us something on paypal: moonshine.lemongrass@yahoo.com.
Or else there is a patreon site:

Another famous Dayak food is called the Ayam Pansuh or chicken cooked in bamboo. Maybe you can ask where they do sell it because its really difficult to come across. We, Dayaks grow up eating tapioca leaves a lot.

Hello Sir, i'm from Pontianak city, West Borneo which is just south of Sarawak, Malaysia, for me myself i already went to Kuching with more than once, during my vacation in Malaysia, also i really love Kuching city, cause it's uniqueness that shows Harmonious Malaysia vibes and of course other cities in Malaysia also shows the same vibe, plus Of cource the Malaysians foods in there is so sedap, btw i really hope that you can enjoy your adventure in Malaysia, regardless where you are, and may God bless you and people's around you amen.😊🇲🇾 Btw about Suhanjaya lian, his comment is not a trully reflection of how Indonesians think about Malaysia, so please forgive him for his childish and idiotic comment 🙏🏼.

1:45 The term “Dayak” has been accepted as the race name for the indigenous people of Borneo. Dayak ethnic’s culture, language are quite distinct from each other. In Sarawak, the Ibans (also known as the Sea Dayak) make up the largest group of Dayaks. The Bidayuh is known as the Land Dayak. 2:53 Try the “ayam pansuh” next time. That’s the chicken cooked in bamboo. That’s another Sarawak’s signature dish alongside the kolo mee and laksa Sarawak. Another one is the Melanau dish known as “umai”. 2:57 Daun bandung goreng lanyeh = stir fried tapioca leaf with pork lard. 3:03 That’s pork with the “terung dayak” (Dayak brinjal - sourish brinjal). 14:05 Very happy that you make this vlog about the different spectrum of taste found in Malaysia. 👍🏼 15:30 Dayak people traditionally eat with their hands too. Nice vlog. 👍🏼 Dayak food aren’t vlogged about very much. This gives a better picture of what Sarawak has to offer culinary-wise.

@@yvesthesleeve, one suggestion you can think of is to head to a market somewhere. It’s fruit season now and the market would be flooded with exotic fruits. There used to be one at Satok but I think the venue has changed (recommended). You can also head over to a market somewhere in Batu Tujuh (Mile 7) but it’s a smaller one.

Dayaks are the majority in Sarawak and in Borneo island as a whole. However the dominant Dayaks in Sarawak are the iban (Sea Dayaks) followed by the Bidayuh (Land Dayaks). You can find Dayaks in Sabah (North Borneo) and most of them in Kalimantan in Indonesian part of Borneo. Just like the Apache and Navajo and the Mohicans in the Native American reserved in the USA.

The more you and family travel, the chances of trying food/cuisines get wider 👍 Yeah, that Nasi Daun Bandung (Dayak food) looks simple but guess it's nutritious. As the saying goes: "Never judge a book by its cover." Well, my Malay neighbour once gave me these tapioca leaves. (the young leaves) She boiled the leaves and told me to eat them with "sambal belacan." Haha....l don't like it. Aaaa ...those nyonya kuih are easily available here in WM'sia. That pink cake is "huat kuih" and the red one is "ang ku kuih"...the skin is made of glutinous flour, that's why it's chewy...my favourite 😃 Wonderful that you finally get to meet an Iban and a Bidayuh there. Great of him to give some info about those tattoos. Thanks for sharing this cool vlog, Sir. Safe travels always !

@@yvesthesleeve Yes Sematan, Lundu & Telok Melano also have beautifiul beaches. There's also plenty of hidden waterfalls in Padawan and rivers in Bau to visit. Some places are nice to camping and BBQ while drink some beers. We call the river sungai batu meaning rock river which is clear and quite shallow and safe to swim mostly in upper river. We call them ulu sungai. But try to avoid the deep one with strong current especially during raining. Very dangerous to swim. Also some rivers have crocodile mostly downriver. Some good places to visit is Bau, Siniawan, Kampung Sting near Bengoh Dam, Libiki Bamboo resort, Kampung Sapit at Borneo Highland, Annah Rais Hotspring, If you like the beaches Sematan, Lundu & Telok Melano also nice. Hi there, just to let you know that char siew pork is Chinese style of cooking. The Iban style of cooking pork would be ‘pansuh’ cooked in bamboo. It’s like stew pork seasoned with salt maybe a bit of ginger flower. Jarang Orang asing bule bule mempertontonkan wisata Sabah Serawak biasanya kebanyakan di semenanjung. Hal inilah menjadi kesenjangan sosial Ekonomi rakyat disana, pemerintah hanya mengutamakan kepentingan semenanjung. Cukup bangga lega rasanya leeMongras bisa mengelilingi Sabah Serawak melihat suasana Pribumi disana,, dari dulu Negeri ini kurang diperhatikan pemerintah pusat Semenanjung.. padahal wisata Disana sangat menjanjikan. Tapi melihat semenanjung tamak mengabaikan ekonomi di Sabah Serawak. Semoga Sabah Serawak bisa mendapatkan haknya tanahnya sendiri 😊

@@yvesthesleeveHello Sir, i'm from Pontianak city, West Borneo which is just south of Sarawak, Malaysia, for me myself i already went to Kuching with more than once, during my vacation in Malaysia, also i really love Kuching city, cause it's uniqueness that shows Harmonious Malaysia vibes and of course other cities in Malaysia also shows the same vibe, plus Of cource the Malaysians foods in there is so sedap, btw i really hope that you can enjoy your adventure in Malaysia, regardless where you are, and may God bless you and people's around you amen.😊🇲🇾 Btw about Suhanjaya lian, his comment is not a trully reflection of how Indonesians think about Malaysia, so please forgive him for his childish and idiotic comment 🙏🏼.

You should avoid eating pork cause your view count will probably go down due to porkophobia by certain religions.
