Bought mine 5 years ago and it was in pristine condition. Took it to the range. At 100 yards, open sights, fired three head shots on a mansize target-- could cover all three bullet holes with a quarter. I would go anywhere with this gun, either hunting or defending my mailbox. Simply incredible. Nice tutorial, sir.

When I got my first one a decade ago for like 325 bucks and took it apart, I saw the crazy good design and craftsmanship and knew the rifle was gonna really shoot up in value eventually, even more so than most of the other milsurp rifles that were really good deals at the time. You can just tell when you handle one of these that the work that went into it is really a step above almost anything else from the time period.

Hi all, I have several of them in nearly new condition (one from my grand father as well). They shooting mostly sub moa with Swiss Army Ammo 7.5 x 55. The one with the scope, I get even less then 1/2 Moa. Very important the hold it accurate is, don't screw the front band screw on the stock to hard. Most old Swiss snipers they surrounded the barrel with a peace of soft paper and screwed the band very soft so that nearly no pressure occurs the the barrel. You have to know, that the training distance of every Swiss solder was always 300 meters (330 yards) standard distance. And they hit a target of 10 cm (4") with open side (good shooters only). regards from Switzerland

The K31s are stocked up like a No4 Enfield with some up pressure at the muzzle to help with barrel harmonics, Do Not remove this contact portion to free float completely, it will reduce accuracy immensely. Unlike the No4 Enfield the K31 also has some down pressure from the upper handguard as well, do not alter this stocking arrangement as it will reduce accuracy

@Ger Murps he never mentioned the handguard contact nor the misconception of free floating improving accuracy, The stock contact at the forend was to improve accuracy not for bayonet use as mentioned. This somewhat implies that it could be more accurate free floated completely. Your accuracy would actually be significantly worse as the forend stabilizes the lighter barrel

12:08. I actually did some calculations on the cost in 1942 to replace the rifle. In 1942, 42 Swiss Francs was about equal to $47.04 USD. And so, calculating for inflation, $47.04 USD in 1942 is the equivalent for about $900.73 USD in 2023. So, the cost to replace a K31 in 1942 was around the cost of $900.73 USD today.

The Swiss treated their soldiers with respect. Just look at the quality of the personal arms issued to the soldiers. The Swiss government cared that each soldier was given the opportunity to come back home when an operation was completed. I looked up the pliers and they are box joint made by Friedrich Dick sold by Brownells. They are box joint so the tool doesn't side twist and damage the part being held.

The K31 is still a very popular rifle among sport shooters in Switzerland and in Switzerland it is usually shot at 300m/328 yards. The Swiss Army's requirements for the K31 at the time were that it should be as precise or more precise than the IG11 which is 131cm/4.3feet long but not much longer than the K11 which was 110cm/3.6feet long. Of course, the Waffenfabrik Bern didn't settle for just as good and actually managed to improve the precision of the K31 over that of the IG11 and still have the same length as the K11. Some even say that winchester took "inspiration" from the GP11 to make the .308 because of the oddly similar dimensions and performance. P.S. There's always the rumour, that the GP11 is out of production. This isn't true. True is that RUAG, the producer of the GP11, temporarily stopped production a few years ago due to quality issues but after those were resolved they started production again and this until today. However there are other manufacturers that makes 7.5x55 Swiss which technically is GP11 but because GP11 is the military designation for 7.5x55 Swiss, there's only RUAG that can legally call it's ammo GP11 because they do all the ammo for the swiss army.

I totally agree with you all day long at that, but really !! does this really surprise you or anyone else viewing this over there precision quality! after all its the amazing Swiss gun smiths & engineers were talking about here, that Name or Word alone speaks for itself( Swiss or Swiss Made )!, they are renowned for precision with the build quality in everything and anything they make in a mechanical aspect ..... for example look at there watches the Swiss are known for there is no other in the world that can match there overall sheer precision and quality in the internals of these watches and that's where it all counts in the end of the day !, anyone can make a watch look pretty but its the sheer precision & accuracy of that time piece that means the world to the owner, if you ask me its the same regarding this magnificent & simple, but beautiful and elegant rifle the engineering that was put into the development of the workings of this rifle is second to none Esp been built in a time that everything war related was rushed through by everyone else in this industry at that time, but the Swiss said no we will build these rifles to perfection, as if there was indeed no war on, so the reliability and quality and precision will all remain at the top and if not next level to every other manufacturer of those time's...The incredible Swiss have ultimate pride in production so I'm not at all surprised ever!!!! Good day to you sir and your team , and hope yall have a great christmas to come 2022, but more importantly may yall have an excellent new year to follow . I wish this also to anyone reading this crazy comment of mine

Yes remove the follower and spring from your magazine and clean it. I've seen too many neglected magazines. Just remember the orientation. The acids from the wood can fade the writing or the butt plate can stain the troop tag, sandwich it between some archiving plastic like a BCW protective page. It's not unusual for the sling clip to be missing from the sling, they made noise. Soldiers don't like noise. Removal of the sling ferrule may result in wood chipping out of the buttstock. It's not a full floated barrel when assembled. You missed pointing out the shim under the receiver in the stock. They come in different thicknesses and are selected by the arsenal to tip the barrel up so the upper hand guard can bear down on the barrel to dampen the harmonics. *DON'T LOSE THE SHIM* The front receiver screw should be tight. The rear should snugged down drawn up until it starts holding a group. German 101, whenever you see a W pronounce it like a V. Like LuftVvaffe. Vvaffenfabrik.

It is very unfortunate there is no aftermarket ammunition with the same bullet dimensions as what the rifle was designed to eat. All of the PMC (edit *PPU) stuff uses generic dimensions. Take a set of calipers and pull a bullet from a swiss military surplus round and take some measurements compared to that of the PMC (edit *PPU). The dimensions are very different. Make sure to measure the diameter at a couple of different locations along the surplus. It was designed not to be congruent. The PMC (edit *PPU) is consistent and oversized throughout its diameter. The pressure curve and ballistics are going to be very different. The throat and barrel wear are going to be very different (excessive). The accuracy is very different.
