Looking forward to that comparison between the victorinox and the arc!

Thank you so much. I was just about to give mine away. Cause I just could not get into Mine They are so tight. It's crazy. Now I will have it fixed. And I will carry it all the time.

It's so weird. Victorinox makes really nice stuff, but these tools can be so damned hard to open.... I handled one at my local knife store the other day and it was night and day different than mine. I was almost gonna do the same, give mine away and go buy a new one after I handled it to make sure it was better. I figured I would try this and it worked perfectly! Do it a bit at a time, making sure to not make it too loose... There have been so many complaints about these things...

I love Victorinox Swiss Army Knives-had one as an EDC for over 50 years. This doesn't sell me on the Spirit at all---basically it is known as the nail breaker--and you're solution is to tinker with the manufacturing (carefully) to sort of mod it/adjust it to open easier--and you cite a usage case that still might not be easier even with your bent springs. I paid for the LM ARC (only a bit more really--got a 30% discount-but even without my discount I'd have paid for the LM). It's easy open on everything and I haven't had to tinker with anything--the expandability you mentioned (which you said everyone might not need) was an added bonus. I'll go with ease of use for multitools any day.

I own both the Swisstools Spirit X and the Leatherman Arc. Used both extensively... I agree with the one handed opening of the Arc, but the egos and comfort on it just aren't that great. The Victorinox feels better made and designed, but that's just my opinion.

Thank you very much for the tip. It worked great for me. No more bent fingernails. I needed a good Multitool that is thinner than the LM Surge or Wave for pocket use. My job as Production Engineer for Fire Engine pump production requires a handy tool to keep production running without delays. Unfortunately the HR department frowns on pocket knives even though every department has box cutter knives even including the offices. The Spirit is the thinnest full featured tool so it is not a bulge in my pants pocket.

After 15 or 20 years I now have knife 🗡️🔪 that works properly. I like the finish look off the Victorinox feels very nice in the hands solid as a rock 🪨

Which tool do you prefer to use as a daily driver now?

I bounce back and forth between the SwissTools MX and the SwissChamp... if I just carry a blade, it's usually a Spyderco Delica 4 or Dragonfly 2, or a Benchmade Shootout OTF.

The best part, your warranty is still valid if you use a polished victorinox screwdriver and dont scratch anything. 😊 Better than the cut back method.
@Daves_Man_Cave Жыл бұрын
Yup, no scratches on mine, it just has less spring tension now and opens much easier... That's why I didn't want to drill out rivets and then try to put it back together... you risk ruining it, and you 100% void the warranty... this seemed like the simplest solution...

You laugh, but some of these things are real nail rippers. Like literally.

@@Daves_Man_Cave I have a Swisstool SX, there is nothing comparable to the quality it has. It has the quality of a Swiss watch.

@@77ITerAI agree, but getting some of the tools out in the two that I bought, literally rip your nails off. If you get bloody fingers from opening it, then the springs are too tight, and the lock on the blade, isn’t very secure, I can get it to pop open pretty easily…
@diegolainfiesta Жыл бұрын
I don't understand your problem, you don't need to violate your multitool like that. I bite my nails, I have literally no nails and I can open it, no problem, without modification: 1. Buy the Swiss Spirit MX Clip, and NOT the version you have. 2. To open it, you just dig your index finger in the hole, fan the tools and select the one you want.

It's a known issue with these tools. Google it and you will see that it's the most common complaint with them. Does rent effect every one of them. Yours might be fine. Mine wasn't.

I also have XL hands, my finder doesn't dig down in that small area. Like I said, Google it, it's a very common issue.

@@Daves_Man_Cave I appreciated your video--but it's a bunch of work and finesse to get that tool workable. I'm older now and ease of use (including modding) is a big deal. I did watch your video to see if the Spirit could be a tool for me--I love Victorinox--and the tools themselves and the durability looks fine---just not so easy to open. I'll look forward to Victorinox perhaps developing an EDC tool that is just a hair easier.

I had the MX and the blade shape is different... I ended up going back to the regular Spirit X, but, I opened the box at the shop and tested it before buying it, and the new one had springs exactly where I would want them tensioned.
