In the last year, I went through all those 6 options. It is sad that this industry is in such an awful state. We went from "I can get a job whenever I want, my LinkedIn is full of offers", to "my LinkedIn is a ghost town...3000 people are applying to the same job..." It all happened overnight (over a year). Now, it feels like we are fighting for scraps. Good Luck, everyone.

I pivoted to Local SEO with R&R model. I basically copied 4 best ranking software funcionalities in to my custom tool, automated 4 more for LinkBuilding. I trained VA to use my custom tools. Im using same website structure template for all websites. I connected page builder to custom GPT so it does basic Onpage outoff the box. Im currently making a tool that will take output of my custom tool and optimise webpage directly so I don't need VA anymore and ill save additional $1500/m. Programmable SEO is the way to go.

@@thewolfofswingthat2035 Self driving trucks were a promise in 2014, 2015... in that time I was thinking exactly the same, "poor truck drivers, they will be replaced and I will have my steady job as a developer", nowadays the reality seems the opposite. Automated driving trucks are far to be a reality and developers are fearing losing their jobs. As I intend to be a truck driver in europe where the streets are narrow and very hard to manouver, this career will last long. I'm aware that self trucking drive is a reality in open highways but with irrelevant adoption.

Funny timing this video because after 20+ years in development I have decided to go do something completely else. I can't see myself sitting behind a screen all day for another 20+ years because as I grow older I feel that it's not good for me and my body. Also, I think with the rapid development of AI and assisted coding the demand for developers will decline. Of course developers will always be needed but my guess is that the demand will shrink significantly and I want to be ahead of that. I'm going to focus on something that simply cannot be replaced by AI.

@@sandrahufford8858I guess the best option is trying mixing baking with programming for example try making a croissant shaping machine, production lines can have plenty of options/avenues for incorporating programming but it must be done together with some mechanical and electrical engineering stuff to make the code be able to operate in the “real world”, Also WebDev is less appropriate for that kind of stuff than EmbeddedDev which is a really interesting programming sub field. I’m switching to freelance writing work. Technical writing and technology based writing. The job market just doesn’t seem worth it. I’m employed at a big tech company, but anything can happen. Even if you get a job, if it’s too hard to find another one, is it really worth it? They can treat you poorly and you will have no choice but to put up with it. So, I’m looking into writing opportunities and other services (content creation, AI automation, etc…). Id rather freelance or become an influencer than work a 9-5. It’s 2024 after all.

AI made me dislike being a programmer. Before, it was an elite craft, doing a black magic thing and being considered smart. Today it feels like we're only doing that to feed the AI meant to replace us at some point anyway. This is just cruel and feels wrong to teach a technology that is going to replace you!

My advice is to become a freelancer while you keep your current job. And if that goes well, just do less at your main job and do more at freelance position. If you been with a company for more then 3 years there is not much you can do about what people think about you. Managers see you as player X and you cant do anything to become Y.
