my guess is that there was a time slot that they had to fit the song in (like they have on most late night shows) that's why they took out the solo and salvation line. I'm pretty sure Letterman didn't tell them to take it out because it was religious.
@jyfarber14 жыл бұрын
they didn't choose mainstream, mainstream chose them. i could care less. they are an amazing band.

Other than skipping the "Salvation is here" (which is one of the most excellent parts of the song), you've gotta admit that this is an AMAZING performance of theirs!! :)

yeah they're only allowed a certain amount of time on these talk shows, unfortunately, so they had to play it fast and cut out the "salvation is here" part.

@Switchfeet36014 жыл бұрын
@aTreeIsaTree Dude, Switchfoot does acknowledge that. I've met the guys, and seen them play, and they do everything they do to praise God. And remember the part "salvation is here" wasn't added untill they came out with the second version of the song, and following it they added a guitar solo, which is also missing in this performance. My guess is that this the first version they're playing.

@Danz2003 after Jon sings "Where you gonna go, Where you gonna go?" he is supposed to sing a very high "Salvation is here." But he doesn't in this version because Letterman probably didn't want all the Christian-phobes to go nuts over it. Look up the music video for dare you to move and fast forward to 2:50 and listen to the end of the bridge. You'll see what I mean.

The extremely sad thing about it is that they say in the song: "I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor" obviously by leaving the salvation part of this song out they were not lifting themselves off the floor.

@MoreLikeMe92914 жыл бұрын
@MoreLikeMe929 also, jon has always said that their songs could work on two levels. one is the religious aspect of it and other times it could be a song simply about existence or love. switchfoot is great. and them being christian and not being afraid to share that makes me appreciate them even more. now, can we just all agree that they are amazing and appreciate the music?:)

Actully, when they signed with Sony the big guys said that they couldn't say anything about God or Jesus on stage or in their music, so they had to work around that... but hey, now they've worked back to being independt and release one of their most spiritualy deep albums to date... not to mention all of Jon's solo stuff

shows like Leno have something like a 3 min limit therefore the band has to rearrange the song to come in under that time or get cut.

Jarad I totally agree. Plus Jesus chose mainstream when he walked between the poor and sick. If we want everyone to be safe and closer to God we should go mainstream!!

Jon wasn't alowed to. They're not alowed to say anything religious on that channel, I'm pretty sure. And plus, they had a time limit, which also explains why they played so fast.
@jgtvares7 жыл бұрын
This version is a lot faster, pretty good thou
@WlknTlknStvnHwkn14 жыл бұрын
@EliAdelman I don't doubt what your saying at all. But there are also bands out there that have used the christian market just to get a record deal.They hid behind Christianity until they get noticed and all of a sudden, Christianity goes out the door and they want nothing to do with it. Perfect examples would be 12 stones, BlessTheFall, Chevelle, All That Remains and the most popular one...Creed.
