I tried to use weed to fill the alcohol hole. It didn’t work. I have no desire to use anything anymore. It’s such a relief to just be as I am . It’s been 10 months without the alcohol and I am very happy .

In my case weed works like a magnifying glass to spot unsolved and hidden problems in my life and my soul, it‘s like a mirror. Most times using cannabis goes within unconfortable selfreflections and I think this could be a good thing under special circumstances. Alcohol in comparison is a defocussing drug and much more „ userfriendly“ in case of an abusive distraction of your inner focus towards your thuoghts, yourself and your personality. On the other hand I know a lot of people who are highly addicted to weed, without having any of those effects, and in that case it is the same mindblurring shit like using alcohol trying to stop the mind to from thinking about who we are and where we want to go in developing our personality. I am free from alcohol now for 15 months, it feels like a great escape from deathrow, but it is so complicated to handle the full spectrum of this new freedom in the short remaining time of my life.

30 days in...its easy if you continue to challenge yourself on fixing other things too...food, toxic relationships, toxic friends, exercise, etc

I now firmly believe that before I ever take an antidepressant again (I was on one or more for nearly two decades), I will first make sure I am eating well, getting good sleep, exercising, limiting my screen time, reading my Bible, touching grass as they say, etc. (I would throw in "spending time with friends," but I don't really have any anymore.) Using drugs and alcohol is a way to avoid actually fixing your life. It's like putting a bandaid over a splinter instead of removing it.

I concluded with drugs like weed, it only acts as a key, the effect exists within you anyway, it only activates something which is already within you.. You can conclude you don't need or want any drugs, including alcohol.

I try to follow the NSNG diet about 80% of the time. I’m happy to maintain or lose 1# per month. Doesn’t sound like much but that’s 12# a year for nearly three years now.

Can you be more specific? Maybe people could offer suggestions here. Just one thought, though: I have found that complete abstinence from foods you are trying to avoid is what helps your taste buds to change. So, for example, the idea of a cheat day is honestly not doing you any favors. Just my thought for what it is worth.

Thought about trying weed now that it is legal in Canada. (just because it's legal doesn't mean it's good for you). I was never a smoker just a boozer. Anyone tried the edible pot candy? Sounds like something you get easily addicted to. Sunny and warm in beautiful BC, going for my morning walk.

Weed kills motivation and makes people think someone else will take care of them. Stay away from it.

Hmmm.. for decades I drank nearly two bottles of wine a night and ate weed. Then I stopped alcohol dead at the age of 63 and now vape weak weed once every fortnight or so and listen to music. I have no desire to vape any more and am pretty happy as I am. I dont consider vaping weed escapism, a crutch or anything like that. It's just part of the tapestry of my life and frankly, very enjoyable. Having an alcohol addiction doesn't necessarily mean it's impossible to enjoy other stimulants in a measured, sensible and ultimately harmless way.

Good for you. I can only say for myself. It really interfered with my growth. I value my time and energy and I got nothing from weed except lethargy.... Everyone has the choice to make based on their own life and outcomes.

It's crazy how weed users defend their weed! If you post anything at all negative about it, you'll see 200, 300 comments of people touting the benefits of weed, how it's better than X, it's not addictive (bullsh*t), at least I am not rotting my liver, etc. etc.. You really touch a nerve with them. I want to post this in my alcohol group on Facebook, but if I do, I will do it anonymously. And I might add: a lot of the members in that group (SoberPunks, ironically) still use weed but call themselves sober.

I agree. If you're looking for a substitute drug, marijuana is probably a less harmful choice than alcohol. For me, I wasn't looking for a substitute drug, I needed a substitute mindset
