Alcohol prevents me from learning or conquering any of my fears because it puts the pause button on life. Anything I wanted to learn or goals I wanted to accomplish I would drink instead to silence the inner critic but that only lasted for a couple hours. Then you have all of your fears, unaccomplished goals, unfinished tasks on top of a bad two day hangover. Eventually its gets to the point of not knowing "who we are, what do we like, is this all there is in life, am I going to be scared my whole life?" It's taken me roughly 15 years learn, but I am so ready to experience life again. I'm only 34 but started drinking when I was 19. It's time to live again.

The pause! That's what I call it too. I now watch my friends lives pause while the clock doesn't. Not that ypu have to be doing something every moment but ypu will be present for whatever comes! I quit after 40 years of drinking. Not heavy drinking but pretty much daily . Id pause till the buzz came then I'd be too buzzed for some things so I'd pause to do it till I wasn't so buzzed. Struggle!!!! Stopping the cycle was the best thing I've ever done for myself and my life! The good and bad still happen but the pause is never there to trap you.

@@jennyrosd2003 Well said!! Hope you’re doing alright. The good and bad will still come, but at least we can deal with every day problems with a clearer head, and not keep pausing our life until the point where you feel you’re not in control anymore.

After a roughly 22 year drinking career, there came a day where all the negative ingredients (consequences) came together. The result was a totally bankrupt human being that I could no longer face in the mirror. I fully conceded to my innermost self that I was the root problem, not alcohol. That moment came in the early morning hours of May 8th, 1994. Further, that was the moment I STOPPED living in the problem, and STARTED living in the solution. The "solution" being how I was moving my feet. I have NEVER attributed my sobriety to "willpower". Whatever willpower we THINK we have is only a mechanism to focus on what we can't have, instead of focusing on what we CAN! Peace!

Sometimes you just get accustomed to dealing with things the same way you tend to forget there are other options. We cannot do it alone. Prevention when we are deep inna hole always comes from someone or something else apart from us. Accepting being vulnerable, I think, is the first step towards recuperation. Life is complicated 😪

What's funny is people without money usually don't bother with things that are out of their reach , I spose that's why quite a few people reach for the booze because it's easily obtained. But if you ya don't have ya health , you have nothing .

It's true. But I think a lot of people desire things that money can buy, but give no real value in reality. The value of a thing is only in it's novelty. Once the novelty has worn off, it's onto the chase again... and that is a life killer, in my opinion. I love the absolute simplest things in life. My dad used to say, you can only eat one steak at a time.

Me and alcohol had a close relationship for years. Like many, I didn't really like the taste so much as the effect! It was a means to an end. I have not completely stopped but can now only have a coffee with a glug of whiskey in at night, 1 or 2 cups. Not every night. How? I actually remembered how ie wine, cider, gin, lager tasted and I didn't like the taste! I have not touched any of those drinks for many months now. Don't have the want or need. Maybe its a way of self-hypnotising, I don't know. But it has worked!

I watched your show a lot before I quit drinking and after, almost two years now, Ive also been keto for a year and now carnivore for a year, which has helped my health, immensely, the last couple weeks I’ve experimented with vodka, and it’s such an obvious poison, makes me feel like crap every time, what your saying here resignates, because that is the reason I started again, to avoid feelings… plus I wanted to see how it went without carbs or sugar, same shit, getting off again before it grabs a hold on me, keep up the good work and thanks eh!

I like it. I often have days where I'm in almost there... I take a house for a few days in the back end of nowhere and just think and write. Phone turned on for a few minutes every day to let my partner know all is good.
