@@squintygreeneyes The 3d seemed alright to me and I enjoyed the demo and the new systems. I have all of the other games so I'm fine with less characters this time around too, the thing I love about the games is how funny and outrageous the stories are.

@@squintygreeneyes the 3d is ok. The fps drop in hq is i can manage. But they removed so many fucking features like the weapons skill, the monster weapons, the capture system so on and so forth. First disgaea game that i got disappointed. Played all disgaea except 3.

I’ve been waiting on this release all year! My demo file already has 70 hours on it, which transfers over to the main game itself. Auto-battling and shared exp. make this one easier to grind than ever.

disgaea's writing has always been top notch with its crazy characters and stories (just like Idea Factory's old games). What I especially like in Disgaea tho is how the humour permeates the game at every level: not just dialogues but mechanics.. items... everything is there to be borderline stupid and destabilising at the same time.

Have you tried out the demo for 6? While it’s definitely better to give 5 a second attempt if you weren’t keen on it the first time. The game has a lot of in-depth mechanics that newcomers don’t understand or take the time to go through.

@@Cissero it’s definitely important to find out video guides for beginners. I was the same in regards to being a newcomer to the series back when Disgaea 5 complete came out. The beginners guide helped me out to get through the base game alone. Disgaea 5 complete has easily upon hundreds of hours of content past the ending credits, which is certainly overwhelming for newcomers as well.

My advice is to just play normally for 5. Don't try to get into all of the crevices on your first play through. As you get more comfortable with the core gameplay loop, then you can experiment with other game mechanics one at a time as it feels fun for you.

You forgot to mention the removal of multiple mechanics from the older games. Like magichange and aptitudes aswell as a other few staples. Admittedly I didn't notice the aptitudes removal because I already knew most units aptitudes. Its only when I saw someone mention it tnat I noticed it. Which means any charater can be any class with no drawbacks attached basically making them a better disgaea 1 majin. You still have to deal with the base stats but with a few super reincarnations you can bypass that. I do like the game alot but it is a step down from disgaea 5 in my opinion.

Regarding the camera, I'm currently playing thru disgaea 5, my first in the series, and around 30 hours in I discovered that you can hit r3 on ps4, pressing the right stick I'm sure on switch, to tilt the camera 45 degrees so you're looking at cardinal directions rather than diagonals and it also tilts it up so it's almost completely overhead (when zoomed all the way out).

I wanted to get into this, because I picked up Disgaea (the original one) for PS2 pretty late... and really hated that new party members started at the bottom of the ranks and it was a PITA to get them to survive long enough to get EXP to level up. But the demo for Disgaea 6... I just can't get used to the weird controls. I really wish the controls weren't so clunky, because the humor and voice acting was delightful, but man.

Disgaea 5 sold way better on Switch than PS4. Because of NIS's financial troubles, they probably decided that they wouldn't bother with localizing the PS4 version. Switch is just a better platform for AA(A) RPGs.

I dunno, as I play as I think the story is bland and not as interesting as the previous games. Melodia's slow singing started to really get on my nerves after awhile, and I honestly never found any of the past characters this grating. The levels are also very repetitive... an easy god of destruction fight at the end of every single level, and they even start recycling environments pretty quickly. And the performance is terrible. I don't know why this game couldn't hit 720p @ 60fps, if not 1080p @ 60fps like the past games. The graphics don't look like something the Switch should be struggling with. The only playable mode for me is Performance, but it's looks like 360p or something - it's so blurry. This game was just not designed for the Switch - it was forced to work on it. I don't even know why there is a 20fps Graphics mode - can any human actually play this and not feel the latency and choppiness? Regardless of graphics mode though, all of the modes are unstable and I wish that was called out as unacceptable for 2021. Even Balanced and Graphics drop to 15fps at times, which is just unacceptable for a game that looks like this. It's still disgaea, but I can't help but feel the reduced budget with this one. Making this a Switch exclusive was a mistake. It feels very anti-consumer when last gen or current gen consoles could run this game so much better, despite how unoptimized it is. Feels like I paid the biggest price for the worst version of the game, because we all know a ps4 version exists and plays much better than this one does but we weren't allowed to purchase it in the west. Maybe if this game wasn't price, I'd be more lenient, but if you want consumers to pay a premium AAA price tag, you need to deliver AAA quality.

Disgaea is and has always been a 2D games series with some 3D elements, it's what the devs know how to make and their arts department is great at hand drawn stuff, so why in the burning netherworlds did they make it 3D?

So in Australia, I can only find a pre-order Price of $90, which is ridiculous. Although there is no naming convention that suggests it's a bundle/deluxe etc it does come with some in game *ahem* items. Namely boost tickets. This send ludicrous and certainly not with my money. I don't even think the demo could get me over the line with that price.
