In this short video we show you how the rubber gaiter is fitted to protect the ball. Not everyone will agree this is a good option but we think so at the LRTV. Main thing is to stop grip getting under the seal letting water and finer particles into the oil.

Question. Is it possible to simply replace the swivel seal and install the gaiter instead of tearing the whole thing apart? What sort of complications could I expect from this?

+Bounty B. Wolf , take the calliper off and pull the hole swivel assembly off the axle flange,..., replace seal and fit gaiter, Fit new gasket to the axle tube and bolt the assembly back on.

How do you know if your seal is leaking underneath?

it will weep out or you will feel the fluid inside....

Ive never seen rubber gaiters offered for the swivel ball until now. I am curious to see how they have held up over the 10 months they have been on. Was it a good investment or not? Watching the rest of this series as I will be doing this job on my '99 disco 1 soon.

It is better in dry environments . Holding up okay and not split yet.

***** Sounds like it would be worth my effort to get them. I live in a dry, dusty and sandy environment. its not the Sahara desert but its close enough in the middle of summer. Best to get it on early with a ball reseal kit and save my ball seal from damage. Now to figure out how to order from the website and what shipping to me would be. :)

yes better that it holding in the moisture. Older Land Rovers had leather gaiters o the, Can be made with saude if you want to save some pennies.

I'm a bit sceptical about these seals... I like the general idea of them, I just wish there was a way they could come in one piece. Even if that meant completely stripping the things to bits. I think I will just stick with my balls exposed, and just make sure I keep them nice and clean. (If you don't mind me saying so) 😜
