Swivel pin housing overhaul part 8 - setting the shims on the top pin

Using shims to set the top pin and get the correct preload is demonstrated in this iveo. Failry standard across the Land Rover Defender Disscovery and RRC front axle range, We'll show you how easy it is and with alittle patience and short bolts we soldier on through this before fittign the sela on in the next section. Excellent video. I found that after each refitting of the top pin I needed to swivel a few times to allow the bearing to settle and then try. If not at first it felt very stiff.

Try getting the end of the half shaft back into the diff. Its like throwing darts in the dark.

It's a snap om very low profile 3/8" drive ratchet. Lot my usual one and this was on a special so brought it. (TBH it was the only thing close on the van at the time).

Nice vids, its realy helping rebuilding my 110. I need to convert my front axle 24 spline to LHD, it has the railko Bush, do you know if i can fit a discovery1 housing to do this?

Thank you for this series. I think this may be the cause of jumpy steering on my series (too tight) so I'll rebuild it soon. what ratchet is tha? nice and slim handle :)

so the resistance of the pin swivel should be 1,16 to 1,46kg? because you show that there must be minimal resistance... how it's correct?

Because that is what the manual says. If you understand what a slight preload is needed then you will understand why.
