I can't really agree with original Kirito being more interesting. In the original he lacks anything resembling personality and his whole taking the fall for the other beta testers never comes up again, seeming more like a reason to make him a loner than anything else. Here at least they portray Kirito as he actually would be, an elitist asshole with Internet mentality above everything.

Once it gets to episode 4, the character development in the abridged far exceeds the anime. And he never said he almost beat the game in the beta, but he got farther than any other beta player.

Actually If I remember correctly the original Kirito did say he beat the game, not almost. Also I don't think he got the farthest either. Truth is no one beat the game in Beta, and Kirito was among a group who reached level 10. By skipping bosses as no one could find the floor 1 boss AND Kirito was surprised with the different weapon the floor 1 boss had. He probably maxed out his character and experience by studying equipment, monster and boss info. But probably wasn't the best, it was all a lie so everyone would hate him and stop blaming Beta testers. FYI character development for a introvert something you retards seem to ignore. Or wouldn't know because you guys are assholes just like this Kirito; so basically you guys find this one likable because you guys can relate to him.

It's literally just an excuse for him to act "cool" and end up as a loner. There's no character established to develop at that point, and we hardly get anything after those events either. Being something of a messiah goody-two-shoes is as one-dimensional as it gets. It may count as "character", but damn, is it bad. We were supposed to get over the "white knight" archetype back when the chivalry novellas fell, seeing the amount of psychologically engaging literary works that rose since then, works that take both reader and characters seriously. It seems the author was not informed of this change. I've got experience with both Light Novels and other genres of literature as well, and man, I can tell you with absolute certainty, Kirito is written as a self-insert to lead a typical power fantasy. He is established early as one of the strongest powerhouses in the game, his actions are never questioned, the ladies fall for him, the lads praise him. Have you ever noticed that every single male character besides him is either an asshole, designed to die, cast aside after one episode or just a sidekick kept around for comical relief purposes? There's literally no other "decent male" besides himself. And that's his only selling point. It's not that he has his good points and bad points, a personality and characteristics that establish him as a person in his universe. It's just that everyone else is worse, for the sole purpose of him looking better and "superior". The entire plot revolves around that single point, including his "romance" with Asuna, every other female character falling for him eventually, the villains being one dimensional depictions of "evil", every single damn thing. Sword Art Online is a shallow juvenile fantasy at its core, the rest follows accordingly. Period. By the way, you directly insulting people because they like this Kirito over the original just shows how insecure you are on your own point. You want to convince people of something, use rational argumentation for it. Calling everyone else that doesn't stand by your point an "asshole" doesn't prove you right, neither does it make you better than anyone else. I can tell you with certainty that most of us like this Kirito better because he is actually interesting, he actually shows real development along the comedic antics of the abridged show. Assuming everyone that likes him relates to him makes your point crumble on itself.

I don't think I ever said I was better than everyone else and the reason I called them assholes was because they were. High expectations? Haha, no, that's not accurate at all. I went to the anime blind, I had no expectations whatsoever. What I saw determines what I wrote there, and you basically made no counterpoint to the arguments I presented. A shame, really. I'd like to note that I can't see anyone bashing introverts in the comments. What I did see were people saying that Kirito is no introvert, which is arguable. First of all, being an introvert is no notable character trait, because I know from personal experience that labels such as "Introvert", "Extrovert" and "Ambivert" don't describe people in their fullest. You won't find anyone out there who can be defined by one word alone. People are more complex than that, so labelling a character an "Introvert" and expecting that to explain how they act is asking too much. Second of all, Kirito's is an odd case. I understand that people act different ways in game compared to their real life selves, but even then, his "Introvert" character trait is slapped on him as something establishing he isolated himself from people before, and he is said later as someone who "Had fear of the outside world" or something among those lines. But that's said, not shown to us. What we saw of him in-game and after game as well barely references his previous behavior, as if he's a completely different person now. I would understand it as some kind of development if that part of his character was actually fleshed out before said development happened. And if there was some kind of fleshing out, it was so overshadowed by his usual harem protagonist schedule I barely noticed it. I would call lazy writing on this matter had I been more certain of my points, because y'know, tell and not show is one of the worst things you can do as a writer, specially when it concerns character traits from your protagonist. Again, if you think people are mistaken on a certain point, why don't you put your point of view into words and try to convince them? Last time I checked, indirectly cursing at someone isn't the best of ways to convince them. It doesn't establish any confidence in your own point either. You are basically saying people are assholes because they are assholes, and they like something because they can necessarily relate to it. Both points are illogical, therefore wrong. If you like the original Kirito because you can relate to him and see character development nuances that not even the author himself sees, it's your own problem. It doesn't mean that everyone else operates this way, and it doesn't mean you can insult them for thinking the contrary. PS.: Just because a development is more notable, doesn't mean it was "dumbed down for the bigger audience". If you develop your character and only you manage to notice it, it doesn't make of you a good writer, and it doesn't make of your story a good story. The abridged version of Kirito has a more notable personality than the original, both for character and comedic reasons, making his development more entertaining. I can see a tiny bit of something in your comment, something that tells me you actually think Kirito's original character is deeper than a puddle, when the author himself stated the contrary. PPS.: I don't see his rejecting of Klein's invitation, "Beater" shenanigans and post-Sachi behavior as something directly tied to the "Introvert" character trait slapped on him. About other male characters, what I heard is that some of those side characters actually do have some development outside of Kirito in the... manga? But obviously like all anime, it's about money so things get cut out. It was mentioned later on when Ballsdeep and DarkChocolate talked about fighting some mobs/boss just before fighting the boss. And Kirito mentioned how he doesn't remember that to which they responded they had lives outside him to which he said no. At one point it was mentioned how he was in bad terms with his family. That's probably why he went into virtual gaming as some sort of escape. That's why his cousin tells him why he had to change when she almost lost feelings for him or something like that. That's the whole point of this Kirito's character. He's a guy who was always shot on IRL. One of his first lines put almost all of it into one sentence. "Here I have power." He finally is at the top of the totem pole and he's loving every second of it. Only now that he's the awesome guy everyone should look up to . . . he doesn't know how to make all of those people looking up to him like him as a person. He was invisible before but now he has all of these eyes on him and so he fucks it all up.

well the Kirito you know from the show is a wish-fulfilling character, someone we actualy want to be in an MMO and thats why he lacks too much of an own personality. Abridged Kirito on the other hand is someone who you do not want to be in, atleast generel and that creates his own personality because people like him exists (ofcourse they are exagerating a bit but thats to be expected) and Abridged kirito actualy evolves from the beginning to the end (atleast as far we can see in the abridged) TL:DR : Kirito stays pretty much the same charackter throughout the whole show while abridged Kirito changes and thats what we wanted +Abridged Kirito is hilarious

Trust me you'll grow to love this Kirito. He does start out as a huge dick but his character will gain a hundred times more depth as the show goes on than he did during the original. While the original Kirito remained practically the same throughout the series personality-wise, this abridged one does undergo a lot character development.

Just as a correction, I'm fairly certain, in the actual show, they state that no one got past...floor 5 in the beta? Maybe 6. No one got far into the game at all. The rest of the description was pretty accurate though. Moving onward, I feel episode 3 is very hit and miss with some people due to a certain Dapper gentleman. Aside from that, it is fairly agreed that the episodes go extremely up in quality with each installment from here on out. Hoping to see the next one fairly soon~

The intro is so much more captivating than the original, and the same thing goes for the characters as well. I just wish there was an official restart of the whole series so it could be done with more personality and A LOT more seasons that actually pertain to SAO instead of Alfheim and shit.

The story behind why Diabel decided to die comes from the light novels. He was using Kibou to try to get Kirito to sell him his Anneal Blade+7. It didn't work, and Diabel kind of felt like a dick for trying so hard afterward. The sword itself comes from a side-quest near another town, which is where Kirito was going at the end of episode 1. He met another beta tester named 'Camper' while on the quest. Camper's style was to lure mobs into fights with other players so he could reap all the rewards, but he forgot that certain mobs don't hunt by sight, so he got got. Kirito fought through to the end, so his Short Sword broke pretty much as he finished (durability is a factor in SAO). As for enhancement level to equipment, the maximum is the item's level plus one, so Kirito's Anneal Blade is maxed out. Add to that how difficult it is to enhance higher (while risking a downgrade), and you can see how valuable a beginner item it would be. And by the way, the _Elucidator_? Enhanced to about +40.

Kirito does become 'nicer' in later episodes after certain events. So I think you might like to see that develop. He's still be a jerk but it'll make sense how he has some nice sides to him. I don't think it'll be anything like the show, though.

i think the Tiffany name is because thats his wife's name or her user name. they had a bet to decide who gets to play first, so i guess in the abridged series he used his wife's account.

It is more centered on gamer status comedy. Jokes to hear while online gaming and how players become overconfident about their skill level. If you know gaming type humor, this series is very entertaining.
