I very much enjoy the depth you go into on these reviews. You might not have the martial arts practice of some reviewers but I haven't seen anyone go quite as deep into the companies and specs of the swords as you. You have a pretty great hold of that niche in the sword review market

This was an excellent review. Also, props to Romance of Men for being open to feedback, crticism, and looking to improve the quality of their swords. When it comes to budget Katana, it's always something, so it would be nice if Romance of Men can actually improve.

Agreed. They've been very open so far and seem genuinely thankful for the feedback and interested in improving. That kind of attitude makes me hopeful they'll succeed.

Like their prices for what the offer. Would be interested in more Handle wrap options on their site

I've been thinking of buying one of these custom katanas from romance of men but it would be my first time buying any sword so I wanted to see if romance of men was worth the money. Thank you for the review, it helped me so much

That one really expensive Saya, I believe is done with actual urushi laquer.

I think I'm going to get one of these, these blades seem better and cheaper than some others.

I think that katana, almost exactly as you have it configured, is going to be my Christmas, as long as our bookkeeping business keeps momentum. I love that blue blade and the brown ito and saya combo. I think I might pick a different tsuba and a more plane brass habaki.

Blue and brown is such a great color combination in a lot of respects.

People that piss and moan about the price of something like this have never made anything beyond a macaroni necklace in school. There is a lot of hand fitting and finishing that goes into fitting castings. Honestly for that price they're charging I'm wondering if they use Uyghur slave labor. That to me is way more distasteful than quality control issues.

Very nice review. I appreciate your honesty and explanations. I ordered mine about 10 days ago and something went wrong with my selections. ROM contacted me very politely and ask for my selections in a very deliberate manner so there was no confusion. Customer service was impeccable. Hope I receive it soon. I am not sure where it ships from. Do you know?

@Jason LaRose Thanks! From what I've seen, Romance of Men has excellent customer service. Their swords ship from Longquan, China.

HanBon recently increased some of its fixture options, including saya, but I got to admit, all the offerings on the RoM site there are pretty killer. And yeah, totally agree, they ought to categorize the tsuba in three separate sections for alloy, iron or brass. Also telling WHAT the high carbon steel is would be nice. However, most of the sources I see defining what HIGH carbon steel is starts at 0.60%. So 1060 and above. Haven't seen a industry or scientific source that categorizes 0.45 (1045) as high carbon. So IF they're trying to pass off 1045 swords as high carbon... .
@alientude2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, they don't say high carbon, just "carbon steel." Which 1045, as a medium carbon steel, does fit in.

@@alientude oh yeah. I just noticed that on their site. Thanks for pointing that out
