Super helpful content. Thank you! Quick question. What is the size of the reliable kill bag you are using? They also have a few blanket options. Any good?

The one that I have is the blanket. We just roll it up and bungee it under the gunnel to save space. We have the 50”x105” and it is awesome. When we get a big sword that doesn’t fit in the front box we slide it in the blanket and fill it with ice. From the sword grounds to my house is about an hour and a half to two hours and when we get home the swordfish is ice cold.

Can a fish be gutted, but otherwise left whole? That wouldn't change the length for FWS's purposes, but would help cool the fish and eliminate the most immediate threat to spoilage.

Yes, you can gut all fish on the ocean and still be within the law for FWC.

Thank you very much for the support! One more thing about your reply, if you catch a swordfish, you can also cut the bill off if you need to place it in a fish box. Swordfish are measured from their lower jaw to the fork. You are perfectly legal to gut it and remove the bill but the rest of the body needs to be intact.
