Hemang Chauhan I believe it's because most critiques are western people that are so disconnected from Yoko Taro genre of story and narratives. They prefer the type of story like What remains of Edith Finch offers, hence why it won The Game Award 2017 for story.

Look. Edith Finch was great in its own way, and I have great respect for that game (and it's developer). But Nier Automata broke grounds on what game narratives can made. There was nothing as impactful or quite in a way like Nier's story was, at least in 2017. _Some_ recognition should have been given that.

Look. I never said Edith Finch has poor narratives or a bad game. It's just that kind of story is the cup of tea for large portion of western critiques. It more palatable for them hence easier for them to play through and give their two cents. I highly doubt even 1/3 of critiques knows A2 or Devola/Popola back story.

Hemang Chauhan that's because the story and scenario aren't special at all. Just look at the characters : 2B has basically 0 backstory 9S is a whiny anime character A2 is like 2B, only more passive aggressive. And all you do is go here, go there and kill the boss at the end of the level. In structure this game is worse than some snes games. Aside from 9S not a single character has any clear motivations or goals, which is one of the most important things in story telling. Compare that to the first game. A father doing everything he has to save his daughter. So simple, yet so strong and relateable. Exactly what a story should be like. Everything this game does story/character wise is a joke compared to the predecessor. Now you can hate me all you want.

The scenario and all the little things in it are work of genius. It will take years for people to appreciate it. It will take years before those who already appreciate it to stop being surprised by finding the little details and connections that make it amazing. Awards are for people that got drunk on a game once - we will stay charmed and intoxicated long long after.

I love Taro’s weird sense of humor so much. Okabe and Hoashi are musical geniuses. Props to both of them. The Nier Automata OST was the first vg soundtrack I bought on CD in about 2 years.

There are many reasons: - He is too shy to make public appearances (if you watch him closely he gets really anxious on interviews or panels). - He thinks that the developer shouldnt take away the game spotlight (which in his case is actually the oposite). - He tends to take some critics or praise way too personal (you can search for the locker incident), so thats his way to cope with it... You can actually see his face on his panel "making weird games for weird people", or his pupet form in Philosopies of violence
