"There's No Way Out Of Here" by David Gilmour is pretty good.
@SukkaPunch3218 жыл бұрын
I agree, that is a great song. Really though, I don't know how many other songs from S/E, About Face or On and Island I could recognize even though I've listened to them all in full. I'm not hating on Gilmour, gems written some great stuff. Childhood's End is one of my favorite Floyd songs. It's just that Syd's solo work is so much more catchy, he stands alone without the Floyd well. Also, "there's no way out of here," is actually a cover the original is pretty good you should check it out sometime.

+SukkaPunch321 yeah I agree completely. "Raise My Rent" is cool too. And yeah, I forgot to mention the fact that it was a Unicorn cover

Part 4: -------- Syd for many also represented the guy that didn't quite fit the mould and so a lot of fans identify with his disconnected state within society and it's that emotional bond that fans have with him, that keeps his flame burning so bright.

Have been listening to this since I was 16... now it makes so much more sense Not saying the two girls are sisters, but they are both from the same country (I have had many girlfriends abroad). The first one (ironically she was a fan of Syd and Pink Floyd), she pretty much used me just to get a visa and settle in my country. Second one is the gentlest girl I have ever met, she is so gentle and kind with me, as I am with her too. We are currently going through a rough patch, she cancelled meeting me for the new year, and said tomorrow she wants to call me regarding the future of our relationship. This call will determine everything, please wish me luck!

Its about the sound and the sincerity you can hear in Syd's music. A lot of that sincerity and absolute exploration is lost in the later Pink Floyd albums without Syd. He was a pioneer of sound in a sense. Roger Waters simply carried on with what Syd presented the band with when they were together. Although Roger has an original streak, he, nor the rest of Pink Floyd, would have went anywhere without Syd.

LYRICS This is a story 'bout a girl that I knew She didn't like my songs And that made me feel blue She said: "A big band is far better than you" She don't rock 'n' roll, she don't like it She don't do the stroll, well she don't do it right Well, everything's wrong and my patience was gone When I woke one morning And remembered this song O-oh-oh, kinda catchy, I hoped That she would talk to me now And even allow me to hold her hand And forget that old band. I strolled around to her pad Her light was off and that's bad Her sister said that my girl was gone "But come inside, boy, and play, play, play me a song!" I said "Yeah! Here I go" She's kinda cute; don't you know, That after a while of seeing her smile I knew we could make it, a-make it in style!? So now I've got all I need She and I are in love, we've agreed She likes this song and my others too So now you see my world is... 'Cause of this tune! What a boon this tune! I tell you soon We'll be lying in bed, happily wed, And I won't think of that girl Or what she said... Fucking GENIUS

What really intrigues me about Syd Barrett is how he (my assumption) was recording all this stuff by himself, when other musicians or bands much more experienced than him, like the Beatles for example, seemed to rely on others to help them in the studio, while Syd did mostly all by himself? How? And specially about how he came seemingly out of nowhere into this business and was already recording at the same studios the Beatles used? Was he that proficient/visionary on the instruments he played? Wow... it's fascinating

@MrWildboy214 I will be cordial with you. Not only did Syd Barrett come up with the name for Pink Floyd, he was the one who spearheaded the band early on. It was his material which first put them onto the charts, when they were a "pop singles" band, and he had some very good ideas in his songwriting. He was just disappointed with life as a "star." He sabotaged the band, intentionally or not, and where they found a bigger audience with Gilmour, it would've never happened without Barrett.

Syd apparently had Synesthesia, that is he perceived music as colours. Which is why he was artistic in other ways such as being a painter. This is such a simple composition and that's the beauty which permeates most of his music; it retains a whimsical simplicity and a childlike delight which stops it sounding dated. Ray Davies had that talent songwriting with The Kinks too. The fact Syd's influences were Belloc, Hillaire, Lewis Carroll and Kenneth Grahame says a lot. True genius, albeit briefly

Part 1: -------- Go check out Pink Floyd - Piper And At The Gates Of Dawn & Saucer Full Of Secrets . Both penned by Syd (the latter mostly). Also stars him on lead guitar. A great example of English Freakout Psychedelia would be Interstellar Overdrive and Astronomy Domine, both on Piper. With his lyrics best described by such songs as Scarecrow and Bike.
