Absolutely magnificent railway station with its tidy surroundings. Really praiseworthy.

Great Southern Rail 'playing trains'. Well captured. I've often meant to go to Central to watch the shuffling of the IP. I'll do it one day. Thanks for posting.

Good video, Vlog, excellent quality. That's a lot of shunting required to prepare the train. The GSR staff must love it when it's just a single consist of 13 or 14 cars which can completely fit in Platform 1.
@Woodland26 Жыл бұрын
so NR45 got left behind? There are 2 loco in front already to pull. Do they rotate the pulling loco so it has time to be maintained? Also why not park the whole train on platform 1 and the second half of the train passenger can walk inside the train forward to disembark?
@sometimeworld18 жыл бұрын
Much simpler at the Perth end. Big long platform at East Perth terminal.

When I travelled on this train in 1974 we left Sydney in two sections and each section was hauled by an electric locomotive. On arrival at Lithgow on the western side of the Blue Mountains the electric locomotive was replaced by a diesel and the two sections were coupled together. This process was soon changed and the train left Sydney as one section and only the locomotive was changed at Lithgow. In those days the IP didn't go into Adelaide and was met at Port Pirie by the Trans Australian from Adelaide and both trains coupled together to continue the journey to Perth as one train. Sorry for the rant, I let my memories run away on me. This is an excellent video.

I didn't see it as a rant, actually quite a nice story. Thanks for sharing it. As a bit of an environmentalist I'd love to see the day the whole length is electrified, even the section over nullabor.

The two people who thumbs downed this video obviously didn't get a train set as a kid :P - I remember that shunting sequence - but when I went on it, it had the car carrier at the rear of the train, so we went forward, backed up and coupled with the rest of the train, then went back for the car carrier on the siding. They did it arse about this time :) The second locomotive leaves the train once the train has crossed the blue mountains - its only there to help it over the mountains. By the time you've slept and arrived in broken hill, the train has only one loco.
@Djr679 жыл бұрын
dash8brj I often see two locos pulling it when it comes through Bathurst when it has up to 24 carriages, I have seen seen one loco pulling it when there are less carriages though.
@colinwilkie22795 жыл бұрын
Could you find out why the loco had to go all the why to the end platform, why can't the loco just go up pass the point then stop. Pity there's no video of the ar carrier being pushed , by a v set

How many carriages are there usually on the service; and is it a daily service (I know it takes around 2 days to cross)?
@transportvlogs28417 жыл бұрын

THOMAS Ninan The reason why it’s called Indian Pacific is because it connects Perth (Indian Ocean) to Sydney (Pacific Ocean).
