There’s such a thing as intersectionality. Where multiple forms of oppression intersect with eachother. For example, homophobia overlapping with racism in gay men of color. Smaller opportunity equals a barrier but it's not caused by sexism. You can still argue though why women sports don't attract that much vievers therefore bring more money and what can be done to boost their view scores. It is something that feminist can focus on if they stop blaming men for it. The same as wage gap, the measure is correct, but the feminist interpretation of it is totally bonkers. Maybe feminist focus should be on assertiveness trainings or improving skillsets? There are still things they can do for women if they'll drop the gender wars and focus on actual causes of the issues.

Idk if someone was calling "womanism" a TERF term in your chat. If they were, they're wrong. Womanism was started by black women for black women issues. Often black women feel left out or pushed to the back of feminism. A movement that was mostly centered around white female issues. Feminism did benefit black women by default but many issues that plague black women specifically go unacknowledged by feminism. Thus, womanism was born.

I want to pushback on the idea that Pearl owned herself with her comment about the limited number of positions in women's athletics. This is not a barrier in the sense of an *unjust* barrier. The market can only sustain so many professional athletes, regardless of race, gender, or any other quality. It would be absurd to suggest that *everyone in the world* can be a professional athlete, which is very much a luxury occupation only possible in a highly developed economy, so clearly there must be a limit to the number of people who can make a living as an athlete. To make a living as an athlete, you must excel as an athlete. Again, this is true regardless of sex, race, or other factors. The finite limit on the number of careers available in women's sports is not a barrier caused by sexism, because the exact same barrier exists in men's sports. It's a barrier that exists in any luxury occupation that doesn't actually produce anything tangible. There's also a barrier between men's sports and women's sports because, quite obviously, if sports were coed women would get absolutely blown out in essentially every sport. This is where the issue with transwomen competing is problematic. That barrier exists to allow women to have sports.
@ExeErdna
@ExeErdna Жыл бұрын
That was the whole point of women's sports was so they DON'T have to play versus men, whom are more aggressive. Since I remember in school guys had to chill when playing with most girls. Hell by the end of the year most girls vetted themselves unless they WANTED to take a hit. Men's sports only want the elite and even WOMEN don't really watch or care about female sports. Hell, most female leagues exist because the men's make so much money they can pay for them to exist. It's a "double privilege" men are legit busting their ass just so women can have their spaces.

But clearly the number of positions in women's sports, or at least the prestige of those positions, is far smaller than male sports. For example, The NBA has 30 teams wheras the WNBA only has 12 and even then the WNBA has a smaller roster for each team. The state of other professional women's sports leagues is even more dysmal than the WNBA. It's just a little disengenuous to imply that the ONLY barrier towards female athletes is a shortage of positions and that said shortage applies equally to their male counterparts.

@@roycampbell586 The number of positions available within a professional sport is, obviously, dependent on the popularity of that sport. A lack of demand for some luxury purchase cannot be twisted into a "barrier" that is "holding women back." I've never bought a ticket to a sporting event, don't buy licensed merchandise, and don't watch sports on TV. Am I putting a barrier in the path of women by not watching WNBA game in some way I'm not putting a barrier in the path of men by not watching NBA games? Also, while there are far fewer opportunities to make a living in professional sports for women, there are also far fewer women whose dream is to make a living in professional sports (which, not coincidentally, is why women don't support women's sports.), which means less competition for those positions. At any rate, if you're a random woman and you want to be a professional athlete, I doubt your chances are meaningfully worse than a random man's chances, i.e. slim to none.

I don't think small opportunity is a barrier? Is like competing with Apple to sell smartphones, only have a 0.0002% market share and then complaining about not being as big as Apple. It's a challenge, not a barrier. And they're not synonymous, because your opportunities to become an equal aren't blocked. Pearl saw what was coming and she jumped ahead to stop it. Most people just focus on the obvious skin tones (light/dark) and forget about the in between (brown) which tends to be grouped with the lightskin. It’s highly dependent on the amount of sunlight they exposed their skin to. Basically along the process of when people tan themselves to reach darker shades of skin. Surprised no one could at least mention brownskin but then again it’s very overlooked. Hope this helps in the future

Let’s be real, one of the largest barriers most women gave today are Pearl and people who think like her. They’re not changing policy, but they are breeding/growing feelings that women are inferior. I am a woman who has not faced any systemic barring to receiving education in a male dominated field; however, the way my male classmates regard me and speak to and about me shows that, at times, they do not respect me. This is despite the fact that I take the same classes as them and receive the same or better grades. PEARL IS THE PROBLEM.

The same could be said about ages 20-30 income, versus ages 40-50 income... there isn't an "Age Pay Gap" (ie: systemic oppression or 'ageism')... it's merely a statistical difference in outcomes based on rational differences.
