@@SydneyWatson The -communists- "anti-fascists" of the GDR called everyone in the West "fascists" all throughout the entire existence of that country, because in the West we had "Denazification" and they simply said "we are all anti-fascists here and the fascists are all in the West". The [Berlin] Wall was the "anti-fascist protection wall" in their rhetoric too. Making FALSE CLAIMS and using VERBAL TACTICS is part of the communist MO as all the redefinitions of terms we can see now show. There was a really NASTY "hate show" in GDR television called "Der Schwarze Kanal" ... and all of the episodes are on YT. Even if you dont understand german it might be worth watching one, because you get the nastiness from the tone of Karl Eduard von Schnitzler ... and the general way they talk. I couldnt watch any of them without becoming violent towards ... probably my monitor. The point is: maybe there is something similar from cuban TV - a question for the former cubans here if there is such a show - ... but it would obviously be in spanish ... because: the *THOUGHT-TERMINATING CLICHÉs* used - fascist, sexist, racist, homophobe, ... - are NOT used to "provide accurate information" but rather to INDOCTRINATE and CONDITION those who "listen and BELIEVE". The example of the GDR and "fascist" shows this clearly and it is reflected in their overuse today. "Thought-terminating" is very descriptive, because this is one of the parts of turning the BELIEVERS into "religious zealots" who you can not argue with ... no matter how many facts you present. The believers are literally conditioned like Pavlov trained his dogs to react to the sound of a bell ... and the cues are the thought-terminating clichés, thus they would have to do it in their own language instead of english.

I was in the U..S Army, Special Forces as a career. One of the best friends that I ever had, a brother, was a man by the name of Francisco Oliva. He and his parents came to the United States on the Marianas Boat Lift from Cuba in the early 80's. I thought that I was a patriot having come from a military family that reached back over 200 years (Since the French and Indian War). Francisco taught me what it was to be an American. He and his family came to this country with nothing. They worked hard and became the American dream. Sadly, Francisco died during an operation in 2004 that we were on. I was with him at the end and I have never know a finer human or an Individual that was as proud to be a citizen of the United States of America as he was of his Cuban Heritage. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about him and what he taught me about being a true America. God Bless You Brother. RIP

As a Cuban (who still lives in Cuba) I must thank you for such a masterful explanation. Some things said in that TikTok video weren't very accurate though. For example, as far as I know, most people here don't usually lack drinking water. Food is not THAT expensive, if so, millions would literally starve to death. However, there ARE indeed tremendous food shortages. Also, there are many more than just one newspaper, but they're all strictly controlled by the government. So it's true that free press doesn't exist here. By the way, Fidel's brother's name is pronounced "Ræ-'ool" and you did pretty well with the name of the current President :D Thanks again for spreading knowledge about our sad situation and don't let anyone introduce Communism or Socialism into your countries!

@@jeankevin2188 Did I say I want to go back to Batista's regime? I think nobody is asking for that. If you haven't lived in Cuba you have NO IDEA what you're talking about. Batista was a dictator, no doubt. However, the Revolution has been a dictatorship as well and so many people don't accept it (either by ignorance or by convenience). It doesn't matter which one has been more cruel. They've been both damnable regimes and far worse than most modern democracies. By the way food here is VERY EXPENSIVE. Not as much as it was said in that video, but is two or three times more expensive than in most of the western world. You shouldn't tell us Cubans what to demand. We want to say what we think without fear of being repressed. We want to create and vote for different political parties. We want to decide if we take our children to school and choose which school we take them to. We want to read whatever book or newspaper we like. Lots of doctors, teachers, architects, scientists, farmers, journalists, etc. want to work for themselves and not for the government, but it's forbidden. We want to trade, invest and prosper, to sell the fish we catch and to sell the fruit of our harvest to whoever wants to buy it. We want to leave and enter our country freely. Is there anything wrong with all of that? If you can do all that freely, at least let us dream of the day we will be able to enjoy that freedom.

As a cuban myself now living in another country i thank you Sydney for shining light on the "wonderland legacy of Castro", very accurate everything you said here. A little bit of trivia, the penalty for illegaly slaughter a cow was 25 years which was more than the one for murder. My generation didn't got Universal history, only cuban history, their version of course. Literature, very limited, essentially anything that would bring perspective and contrast against the regime was eliminated. One of the first things Fidel did was take the firearms away from the people, change the constitution to suit their needs to the point to be useless in court. Create division among the population, those who stayed( the revolucionarios) and those who left( the traitors, the imperialist worms)real thing this last one. Change the educational system to one that plants their message in kids from a real early stage. Blame internal problems to some evil external force and present themselves as fighters for justice, does any of this sound familiar at all? Been born and raised in a comunist country and the pretty much had to be reborn again in a capitalist one i have a particular point of view about the subject. Capitalism is not perfect but it allows individuals to grow and thrive for the most part and grants them just that, the possibility of being individuals. Comunism just sucks, its an illogical fantasy that always fails because it doesn't take one very important aspect in consideration, human nature. Pardon my english, im still learning.

And now people, who have never experienced communism, want to have that again. Honestly, I can’t understand. Why would people want censored speech, to be observed everywhere and have almost no food or rights? This is usually the older ones like the professors and the higher in the food chain people (like the leaders of the gangs and such) Overall, they’re either morons, or wannabe dictators. Excellent video Sydney. Ironically, 99.99% of our very vocal "western-based communists" have never visited, let alone lived in a communist country! I experienced visting family in a Central European Soviet satellite state in the late 1970's and 1980's several times. On one of those trips, I remember looking through the window of a small supermarket in a major city, and saw that ALL of the shelves were empty, bar about 5 small bottles of soft drinks in the back. So I walked in just to have a look around. The woman standing at the cash register by the door, immediately barked _"You have to take a basket, you can't walk in without a basket."_ I laughed, saying _"But your store is empty!"_ To which she replied _"That's irrelevent, it's the law, you MUST take a basket or I'll call the Police."_ I ignored her, walked around without the manditory basket, and walked out. The look on her face was priceless... evident shock that I didn't COMPLY. Also, petrol was rationed, meat was rationed, empty furniture stores had people queuing outside for 3 days solid, after they heard there 'might' be a delivery of something, anything. New tyres and windscreen wipers were a dire rarity, so people drove around in their crappy and dangerous little cars without wiper blades and their tyres were so bald, that the internal fabric and wires were literally fraying. Seeing 10-20 cars with tyres blowing out was extremely common every day. Oh, and if you were lucky enough to have saved the money to buy a crappy communist-made car, you couldn't just walk into a showroom and purchase one. You'd have to join a waiting list of at least 8-12 years... by which time, the price had naturally skyrocketed! Was there a waiting list because of huge demand? No, it was in place to simply frustrate and control people. Whereas, politicians and 'administrators' could buy a top-of-the-range car immediately, and of course, they lived in abundance. So-called 'exotic' fruits like oranges, kiwi's and MANY more were non-existant. Armed guards patrolling the beach - yes the sandy beach on the ocean - told me to stop taking photos and a video, even of my own children playing in the sand, because the beach is the country border and I threatened national security! It was a nightmare scenario, but I always knew that with my western passport, I had the luxury of being able to leave at any time, in sad contrast to the rest of the imprisoned population. Corruption was rife and bribary standard practice, with... local councils, the police, health professionals, stores, basically everywhere! And thus, any financial "aid" given to such a country, will always end up in the hands of high-up Communist Party Members (not the people), which they'd use to build even more villas and mansions, plus buying Mercedes, BMW's, designer clothing and luxury overseas vacations... for themselves. The above is just a small sample, as I could share many other unbelievable stories. Leftists keep complaining about the west, but trust me, if any of them had to spend some time in a communist country, they'd quickly understand the true meaning of oppression and within weeks if not days, they'd be begging to return to their home in the 'terrible' west! Btw, I'd love to see these leftists trying to tell a communist government how to implement "REAL communism" - because they'd quickly see what the inside of a filthy communist cockroach-filled prison cell looks like - and NO, they wouldn't be allowed to complain about 'human rights' 🤣 *THAT'S* communism!

If communism is so wonderful, why prevent your countrymen from seeing the outside world for themselves? And if it's so wonderful, why did people risk their lives (and still do), to escape communism, but no-one has ever attempted to seek asylum from the dreaded West (unless they were spies)? Also, remember, "on the brink of war" from the 1960s onwards, applied to BOTH sides, so that's no excuse. A utopian successful communist state, is as realistic as a virtual world in a video game. P.S. After 1945, when the West handed over half of Europe to the communist Soviet Union, what was the first thing the communists did? They made sure to hunt down and eliminate all disenters through imprisonment or execution. Hundreds of thousands were murdered for their beliefs and desire for freedom. This was a regular occurance untill 1959, during which time the two sides were NOT "on the brink of war." Under communism, expressing a different opinion, is often a prison or death sentence.

Hi! Soviet countries weren’t communist, if u define communism how Marx, Engel, Lenin and most Marxists and Marxist-Leninists do… like how the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has only one party permitted, making it not democratic, the USSR weren’t communist just because they claimed they were. Basically, the definition of communism is a society predicated on a classless, stateless economic system. However, Cuba and the USSR all had very strong states, so weren’t stateless, and had a ruling class of those who led the government. That means they weren’t communist by the agreed definition of communism. Instead, they were still in the process of reaching communism and never actually reached it, because they better fit the Dictatorship of the Proletariat phase which predicated, but definitely wasn’t, a communist society, because it required complete control to brainwash people and ensure a peaceful transition period into communism, as it was not yet reached. Sure it’s nit picky but it’s important to represent claims accurately if you wish to debunk them properly (the best debunks take the best version of the argument they oppose and still manage to debunk it). Communism wasn’t attempted, therefore, because it was never reached to be attempted, as they always remained in the phase beforehand - the Dictatorship of the Proletariat! I’m not a Marxist nor a Communist, I feel the means (the dictatorship of the proletariat) do not justify the ends (communism), unlike Marxists, for practical reasons, such as brainwashing and the lack of liberty from a forced system, when there are betters ways of attempting it! So as much as I empathise with you for the hardships you must’ve faced in a soviet country, just cuz people believe it’s something (communist), that doesn’t make it true. Calling it a dictatorship of the proletariat is philosophically better for your argument tho because it’s worse than communism, if you take the original Marxist definitions!

@@Kriegerdammerung Soviet Union annexed several countries when it was created. In Ukraine Soviet government created a famine which killed 7-10 million people. Before second world war, Soviet Union annexed Baltic states, parts of Poland, Romania, Finland. After the war they annexed part of Czechoslovakia. In all occupied territories soviets killed any opposition they could find. In Estonia for example, soldiers were given orders to arrest certain ammount of people, who were then killed, or shipped to Siberia - thousands of innocent and random people were arrested, just so the soldiers would meet the given numbers. After the war, Soviets created puppet governments in Poland, Czecho-Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. Once again - all opposition was arrested, tortured for months and then forced to confess crimes, which they did not commit and which led to their executions - in Czecho-Slovakia for example Milada Horáková. Polish and Czecho-Slovak soldiers who fought in UK and France were arrested and either killed, or senteced to decades in labour camps, usually mining uranium without any protection so they would die. When in 1956, Hungary had anti-socialist revolution, Soviet union invaded them. In 1968 Czecho-Slovak communist party elected new government, which decided to bring liberal reforms "socialism with human face" and btw: they wanted to bring back parts of market economy, because socialism doesn't work. Freedom of speech and travel was introduced, political prisoners were released. Well.. not for long. August 20th 1968 under Soviet leadership, Warsaw Pact (and mainly Soviet Union) invaded Czecho-Slovakia at night, with 500 000 soldiers and 6300 tanks. Soviets arrested Czecho-Slovak government. Czecho-Slovaks went into streets to protest against the occupation and many of them tried to explain to soldiers, that they invaded their brotherly nation - Czecho-Slovakia. For quite some time protests were peacefull, but then Soviets started to shoot at people. After that Soviets were shooting more often, which resulted into riots and people building barricades, Soviets followed by driving their tanks into people. After this, new government was created by Soviets, which reverted all the liberal reforms. In the end, thousands in Eastern Bloc and tens of millions of people died thanks to Soviets.

@@Alexander_the_Greatest because they haven’t always meant the same thing. For example despot more commonly carried a negative connotation, whereas dictator did not. We’ve had a few cases in history where the dictator wasn’t bad, but they are small and rare. In the early 20th century in America the progressives and democrats openly espoused dictatorship- and specifically one dictator in particular: Mussolini and his Fascism. At that time the term was not a derogatory one. Different time, different understanding of the dangers. Autocrat is a bit different. Technically the Queen of England is an autocrat as she technically has ultimate authority, but accepts regular day limitations on her actual authority. Further, an autocrat doesn’t have to be a dictator in the he or she doesn’t have to be a ruler. For Catholics, by way of example, the Pope is an “earthly autocrat” for the church. Like dictator, autocrat isn’t inherently bad. It just strongly tends to result eventually in someone bad occupying the position. It is technically possible for a “libertarian autocrat|dictator” to exist. Totalitarianism and autocracy are not synonyms. Liechtenstein’s history is one such example. Even when it was a full autocracy it was nowhere near totalitarian. A despot is likewise not restricted to a specific form of government, or even a government. It is more generic in that sense, and has had both positive and derogatory connotations. However, there is also the distinction of how the power is held. A despot rules entirely by whim. The left is whatever the despot says it is right now. In autocracies and dictatorships there are rules and laws but the ruler has the authority to change them.

Then why is it that every attempt branding itself as communism devolves into murderous totalitarian dictatorships? The fundamental principles behind communism are so contrary to the current order of things that transition would not be natural. Could it be that it takes a murderous totalitarian dictator to make the communist fantasy into reality? Furthermore if the means of production are worker controlled, but there are millions of workers (who all disagree with each other) that usually don’t have the time or patience to determine policy, then they appoint a government to take care of it, and in order to take care of it efficiently, it has to be of one mind (single party) and powerful. When all the power goes into one place, it always attracts the wrong kind of people, the kind who will artificially limit the supply of needs to keep the people subservient.

The foundations of communism are found in socialism - the “necessarily despotic regime” needed to bring about the utopia of communism. Socialism itself is heavily reliant on capitalism to create the wealth - this is even noted in the Communist Manifesto by Marx and Engels. It is so foundational to socialism that one way to identify “new” forms of socialism (such as Fascism) is their use of phrase such as “late stage capitalism” or “the failure of capitalism” or similar phraseology.

If a nation exists on an island next to the most powerful empire on earth, that has sent warships to embargo the island for over half a century, it really doesn't matter what the system of government is, problems are going to be aplenty. just like when they say even if you charge 100% of the rich people's money, you can only get enough to pay for 'either' education or medical care for a year or 2 at most, and you will run out of money. Forcing rich people to pay 100% in tax is one of the most evil things to even come up with. That's basically like saying everyone should spend their time and resources/wealth by pouring it into material desires and have a huge food party and make sure everyone is clothed or have blankets, but spend zero money on smart investment and strategies for generating MORE income through profit that is over 110-150% gain, which can happen WITHOUT making people poor. There's no such thing as equivalent exchange through such small mindedness of the left, you only get more burden and suffering by making poor life/money decisions by listening to the left/commies because they have no idea how to manage money, they only know how to spend it frivolously or wastefully.

I work a " REAL " job and still live WAY under the poverty line in my country. I digress. Things like the recent Stimulus from the government. Food stamps. Energy assistance. These things help me personally and I know I'm not alone. At the same time. The cost of living is beyond the math of most jobs. My point. In small tribes of a couple dozen people, i.e. the setting in which we evolved, where everybody knows everyone. The Stasi were sort of like the KGB, except it was your neighbor ratting on you for saying or doing something. I drove through East Germany, and other former east block countries and it was really horrible, everything was grey from the soot from these burning dumpster things where people took their trash, even the grass was grey and it stunk. Basically, East Germany was still bombed and blown up from WW2! Everything was old and falling apart. Balconies were not usable because they were collapsing. My point is, communism failed and the people suffered. We don’t want it here!

Glad I re-found your channel, Sydney. Disappearing subscriptions is an issue on YT. My mother was married to Robert Otis Fuller (Bobby). I was given up for adoption, long complicated story, but he was my father. The family had dual citizenship in the U.S. and Cuba, and owned a 10,000 acre agricultural operation with sawmill, cattle and sugarcane fields. Castro harassed them relentlessly then seized their land. Bobby, a U.S. Marine, joined the rebels, was subsequently captured, tortured and executed. My grandmother, Jennie, knew Fidel and begged for her son's life to no avail. The day Bobby was executed by firing squad, she left Cuba and never returned. My late father's second wife was from Venezuela and tried for years to get her money out of her native country. I know what socialism is, what it can do. It destroys lives and gives rise to dictators and becomes Communist-like or full on Communist, whichever. It has never worked in human history to the benefit of the population. And we do not need socialists in Congress. They point to Scandinavian countries as socialist when they are not. They operate under "cozy Capitalism" with very expensive social programs. I do have a video about my family's story.

A few years ago I went on a cruise that had Havana, Cuba as one of the stops. First off, the people of Cuba are awesome! That being said, it was quite eye opening to see, first-hand, what the living conditions were there. Sure, there were beautiful buildings and parks. There were the antique cars that lined the streets ready to take you on a tour of the city. All of the things that are shown as the "highlights," of Cuba were present. What was also present, but not shown on the brochures, were the buildings along the side streets that did not have roofs over head, but had families living in them. Also present were the people of Cuba who chased after you trying to sell you anything they could to get the currency given to tourist, see there are two types of currency in Cuba, the ones that tourists and government officials use, and then the currency for the common Cuban. I will give you three guesses on which one is worth more, the first two guesses do not count. What really got me was when we re-boarded the ship, there were people who had just spent the same amount of time I had on the streets of Havana and proudly wore Che Guevara shirts as though he was a hero. I thought, "did you not stray from the main streets and see what it was really like? Did you not speak with the people who were not keeping quite? Did you not see what was going on? And yes, those are rhetorical questions, but it still amazed me how people visited the same city I did, but only saw what they wanted to and had the nerve to wear shirts in support of a tyrannical dictator. I hope the people of Cuba soon attain the freedom they deserve!

The thing about communism is that, as a theory, it works... in very small groups in which everyone does their fair share without being forced. You can't impose it on a country. It would never work that way. It's basically telling millions of people to act like one big, happy family that never screws each other over. The theory only works if humans act in ways humans have never successfully acted before. And yet our country is divided over the most basic issues, so why do we think we could all come together to create a utopian society without things inevitably collapsing?

First, you need to define what YOU mean by socialism. There are many variations in theory and in practice. And also what you think is the difference between socialism and communism (they are not synonyms). After that, compare those various options to Cuba to see how much they followed the stated goals of those ideologies. The biggest problem with communist countries is that they're run by military dictatorships--an result not intended by those who created the concept.

Part of what I was saying is that if *I* defined socialism I would immediately be told "that's not socialism" and thus the point that "true socialism has never been tried" would remain. Asking the pro-socialist person what specifics they would do differently to demonstrate that "true socialism" would be a wonderful utopia would only get you told that they would do the same, tiresome failed things that were allegedly "not socialism."
