Rust in Peace is the shredder album, also where Marty's solo skills are upfront. Not sure how many tracks you've heard off it (just Holy Wars?), but it has some meat on it.

Agree. Holy Wars is a masterpiece and not even my favorite song on the album. Each track could be a signature song.

As a guitarist I can tell you that Megadeth riffs ain't the easiest to play, specially how Dave Mustaine plays them, down to the way he picks certain notes, and he's doing all that while singing.
@metaltildeth6783 Жыл бұрын
Great review of the first three songs of 'Countdown to Extinction'. Like Metallica, Dave was seeing where metal was heading in the early 90's and changed up from a pure Thrash to a mix of heavy and lighter metal. This album, I believe, is the best selling of all 16 albums Megadeth has released. As for Dave's vocals, they are pretty much unchanged since their first album, even today. Sure, he can't sing like he did in the 80's and 90's because of the metal plate in his neck and years of abuse, cancer, but he did not change his singing style because those problems. At the end of Architecture of Aggression, Dave holds that last part of Holocaust for 16 seconds. It's clear and in key... Not bad for someone criticized for not being able to sing. Looking forward to your next reactions off the album. 🤘🤘

Megadeth had the best lead guitarists, but rhythm is definitely split between James and Dave. Both are insanely talented and like robots on rhythm.

No, it's not Dave rips James in every category other than stamina, and perhaps down picking speed.

Foreclosure of a dream, this was a song written by Megadeth’s bassist at the time, David Ellefson. He’s from Minnesota and grew up in a farm with his parents. As for better lead guitarist, Marty wipes the floor with Kirk, James, and even Dave.

'Symphony of Destruction' reminds me of Lord Actin's observation that a person's morality decreases as his power increases. We certainly should be careful of who we entrust with power. The third verse says it all. "Foreclosure of a Dream".....'Barren land that once filled a need are worthless now, dead without a deed...' so many lost their farms, some farms owned for generations. Talk about personal holocaust! Multinational Corporations took over and taxes were raised. I'm depressed now. Oh! and btw....fuck Reaganomics.

Interesting album to start with, for sure more acessible than their other works, but as other people, i would recommend reacting to Rust In Peace and Peace Sells (original versions, remasters suck) for me, those are megadeth magnum opuses, and benchmarks not only in thrash metal, but in the genre as a whole
@omarrodriguez4237 Жыл бұрын
Annihilator is another great thrash band thats in the same vein as Megadeth in terms of having a bit of a progressive rock take to their compositions and a lot of technique and precision but they take it even further. Crystal Ann is an instrumental that serves as an intro to Alice in Hell and both together are a great listen.

Any time I see one of your reactions, you make it very clear that you're a dude with a lot of curiosity and intelligence who's always looking to learn something. Megadeth isn't everyone's taste but even if he can be a jerk, Mustaine's songwriting is so sarcastic and witty for a metal band it's hard not to find some brilliance even when his voice doesn't click with a listener. Great job man. Maybe my two favorite Megadeth albums are Peace Sells and Rust In Peace. Peace Sells hits number one because it was Dave at his angriest, most spiteful, and most extreme when it came to his lyrics and guitar (in my work). Youthanasia is another very underrated album.

Wow, well said. Youthanasia is an album I often use to convert the non Megadeth fan into the fold.

Best part of Foreclosure of a Dream is it is literally a filler track written on the spot cuz this album came out right as CDs became popular. They needed one more song to fill out the space and wrote that while playing basketball during a break. Metallica really can’t hang with Megadeth on guitar solos. Unfair to Kirk to try to compare him to Marty Friedman.
@RTJustice99 Жыл бұрын
Can't compare to Marty with talent, but the solos Kirk wrote in the 80s were creative 🔥
@deaconj3406 Жыл бұрын
@@RTJustice99 They were creative 🔥 because he was shredding new concepts and had room to be creative with it. He mostly shreds Em pentatonics and box blues blending a variety of techniques. After a while, he ran out of places to be creative with it which is why most of his solos after 1990 sound the same. Marty is a freak show virtuoso who can’t be boxed in like that. He almost never used those concepts and is more of a modal guitarist who is basically unlimited which is why every solo to this day sounds fresh and creative. When he does use those concepts it’s next level stuff like the clean solo in High Speed Dirt which is straight box blues shredding but if you go back to the previous solo he plays on the same song it’s I think a Phrygian Minor. Trying to compare them always gonna come across like you’re slamming on Kirk and it’s just not fair to Kirk cuz he is good at what he does.

WRT vocals, Dave Mustaine is actually a more talented singer than Hetfield, but the nasal tonality of his vocals is what makes them of more of a "marmite" thing.

@shane8915 Жыл бұрын
Whose got the better lead guitarist? Metallica? Or, Megadeth? I can answer that silly question with a fact. Metallica's best lead guitarist (Mustaine) is relegated to rhythm guitar with special soloing privilege's in Megadeth. But, Metallica's second best lead guitarist is truly a grand master in the technique of wah-ing you to death.
