I was planning to finish this video that I had started a while ago, but never got into it. Today, I decided
to make a new video (since I have a day off), but I'm a little sick, so I decided therefore to not make my
throat worse with a commentary. Instead, I just finished this video! :)
I hope you guys enjoy this one. I put quite a lot of time into it to make sure the scenes look as similar as possible
in terms of post processing. The models are from different authors, but I tried mixing them and finding the closest possible ones.

Agreed. Unity is more than capable of getting close to the quality of Unreal; possibly even on par. It just needs more massaging. Besides, Unity is a much lighter client so it runs faster if coded correctly. Unreal is great for those who don't know coding and want to make a game quickly, but it doesn't make Unity any less capable. It just doesn't hold your hand as much. It's not quite as naturally pretty as Unreal, but with custom shaders and baked light maps it gets close enough to fool all but the most experienced professionals.

Sure Unity can produce good Visuals up to todays Standards but whats it worth if it cant bring them into a Game more then a Room and produce playable Framerates what only depend on the Users Hardware. I've never had the issue with getting the same look unreal can have with a loss in performance in unity. it all comes down in the end to the developer to make the game run better. you can't really blame the engine for running the assets bad, you just have to design the asset around the engine to get the best performance. Also both engines are not in a different league. they both can all run on the same systems and can produce the same games with similar visuals. the only real difference is workflow. unreal seems to get more realistic lighting with less effort. but that can also be a negative because it could limit you in other types of visual styles that would then require a lot more effort to change it. were as unity if feel its harder to sometimes work with lighting, but its more flexible to get different types of those visual looks. and again in the end its up to the developer what engine they rather use based on the workflow of the engine. I've used cryengine, unity , and unreal engine in the past, and i always come back to unity because its the most i'm comfortable using, and i can seem to get better results out of it personally.

Someone else already mentioned this, but it's not really a comparison, if you're using two distinctly different scenes. In this case, they're completely different environments. If it were to be the same environment and overall scene, you'd be able to properly determine the differences.

Cool project Sykoo! Obviously BOTH engines have great capabilities. The constant competition between users of Unreal and Unity cracks me up. Unless one of the fans are working in a large development team on a AAA game the differences will be negligible. Find your tool of choice and learn it well. Most indie devs will never use the highest end functionality of either engine. Just my 2 cents.

@@TheUnknown-is1fx Unity has a much larger community presence, uses C# instead of C++ and also has a much more developed asset store. It works with native formats like .blend and is generally all round more intuative to use than UE4. Thats not to say its better per say, just that it has various things UE4 doesnt and vice versa applies. Both engines have pros and cons and it really depends on project requirements.

Unity for example is much more beginner friendly and has a much larger community and Unreal is (apparently) much better for big professional teams. I tried both and as a beginner I definitely prefer Unity but I totally get why people use Unreal. It has nothing to do with the platform.

Thumbnail suggests a comparison using the same assets. I do think unreal has an upper edge in terms of graphical fidelity but this seems more of a video made to show that than to compare the diferences in how the different engines render content. Which is what I wanted to see when I clicked the thumbnail. One could easily find examples where unity scenes outshine unreal ones but that would either be a shitty comparison and/or misleading.

While I love the graphics fidelity in Unreal and CryEngine. It's not true that unity cannot outshine Unreal, it is harder though. Scripting shaders, and setting same postprocessing effects that unreal already applies in the base camera is a complex process in Unity. Still, it's the shaders that will always shine more than the engine base graphics power. So you can either make a beautiful game using standard Unreal engine base rendering, or you could make a custom rendering in unity which would give you the same or better graphics. And vice versa you can also create more detailed shaders for unreal which would improve graphics also. Comes down to preference.

The cleanness just gives it away. Every time rendering is used the material surfaces are just scaled, and it looks like an industrial cleaner just went through your apartment. Outdoor environments are easier, but that level of detail is just hard to muster.

Games have to compute a lot of things to make its environment interactive so developers dont make them this realistic otherwise all the processing power would just go into graphics. This on the other hand is just a simulation with a movable spectator, nothing much to compute, just to render here. Hence the better graphics.

I appreciate the rendering systems in both UE and Unity, but I think a lot of people are so blinded by the idea that UE is automatically better for literally everything, a few people give it praise and everyone tends to automatically side with that, not depending on their own experiences. A lot of the differences between UE and Unity in this video also depended quite a bit on the individual scenes. I think instead of trashing either engine we should take a moment to appreciate the fact that we have such stunning technology, and such incredibly talented people using it.

The biggest difference is the texture system and post-processing in the unreal engine, but unity is an odd-duck to compare any other game engines due to how modular and scalable it is. You can simply go to the store and get the same kind of texture system and post processing, and soon, they'll also be built-in. But, if you don't need them, I believe they're also making it easier to not even include it in a build. So currently the built-in setup is better, could still be after the update, but the way unity is structuring their entire engine makes it seem like it's taking over the market for every purpose.
