Exactly. The writers constantly changing Sylar's childhood history is partially why the series went downhill. Guess it was supposed to show the audience he had identity issues and this is why he was how he was.

I always wondered if Virginia and Martin knew the truth about Gabriel’s father. In “I Am Sylar” when Sylar talks to “Virginia”, he accuses her of knowing what really happened to his mother. In the flashback, Samson and his wife were just outside of the diner when he killed her. It’s very possible Martin abandoned Gabriel because he saw similar traits of his brother in him. 🤔 This could also explain Virginia’s fear of Sylar when the powers manifested. They knew more than they let on.

I think Sylar didn't want to leave a trail of bodies. Remember people were hunting down people with powers at this point. Been 14 years since i seen this episode but i do remember that.

I wonder if Martin had any powers or was it just his little brother that got the powers. I think Matin older than Samson, he looks older but of course some people age faster. Looks like Sylar was about to kill Martin but decided not to. I guess he didn't want to leave a trail of bodies. Martin dose sound like he was a jerk.
