Soo... Sylar's ability was that he understood how things worked when he looked at them. That's how he assimilated the abilities, by taking the victim's brains apart... right? I never really understood what his original power was, this is the best explaination i have
@roddypantheon4 жыл бұрын
Sylar's ability is officially called "intuitive aptitude". It's like "Sharingan" without limits except the drawback is you get this murderous hunger for knowledge (although they changed it later with sylar being able to relate to people, like what?) and what's even better is he can use an ability to it's full potential more so than the original bearer. Such an OP power ...although I liked Peter's original one better.

Roddy Pantheon I think Sylar could relate to people since he stole this power from a woman from the Company (the scene where Angela tells him she’s going to “feed” him), which consisted on feeling a person’s life when touching their skin. Sylars power is so interesting to me. A very subtle power at it's core if you think about it. He could have - and would have likely gone his entire life without even realising he had it. It clearly has the potential to turn him into a genius in any field he chooses, yet it had the potential to corrupt him and turn him into a monster. He discovered the dark side of his power and gave in to temptation. I love the idea of a power like that. I don't really view the power as dormant here, it's obviously working, but no one noticed. The idea that you can have a power that gives you an edge in life, but if you take it too far you lose control of your own power and give in to madness? An amazing concept for a super power imo.

Notice how all the clocks are silently ticking away until Sylar strikes down Brian. Suddenly they're all loud, they're out of sync, he can hear each and every one of them all the time, and he can tell that what is wrong with all of them. The hunger isn't just a drive to acquire more, it's very likely a part of OCD - his mind literally needs to fix and mend things and improve, he has to have everything understood - it's compulsion.

Oh, so that's how he gets the powers. Since my childhood, (as I was only able to watch S3 this 2020) I thought he was eating the brain or at least some parts of it to get the power. So just like the watches, he could see what's wrong with the brain or the structure rather of the brain, then he opens the head of others then perhaps copies it and apply to his brain. That's why when he got claire, it was shown that he's like studying claire's brains. I hope someone could enlighten me more about this if ever I got it wrong or missed something. 😆

Peter Petrelli has the same power as him except he doesnt slice peoples head open and copy their abilities. He has empathetic mimicry that makes him a god and he can copy peoples ability if they use it in front of him. Since he lost his ability he got a new ability called Power Replication or something like that so he needs to touch someone to gain their ability that they're using or about to use.
@NineBreakerUIXB3 жыл бұрын
Basically he cuts open the head and there is a part of the brain that's different for each power/person that he can fiddle with to figure out how it works and replicate it. He is also able to absorb powers in the same way that Peter does but lacks his natural empathy so it's much harder to do. Plus he would have to spend time developing the ability that way where as the "open head" technique gives him all the secrets immediately which is part of the "hunger" he feels. The need to understand every little detail and how it works, like with his watches.

The funny thing about Sylar is that it his character kinda ruins a lot of moments. He whole shtick is understanding how powers work by analyzing the brain - by doing so, he can activate the power even for himself. The problem is that some of the plot points dwell on power being sort of "supernatural/genetic" thing. Like, if you can use power by knowing how they work, they cannot be magically taken away by other people... cause you would instantly reactivate them (you still know how it works) - especially since Sylar always kept his intuitive aptitude.
