sinigang is best paired with just plain white rice and not garlic rice...the soup is not meant to be eaten by itself for first timers..always mix it with rice they are perfect pairing.
@pyrokatarina2 жыл бұрын
exactly what im thinking. Sinigang is an acquires taste so you need to build up your sour tolerance before eating it by itself
@bigchaiz2 жыл бұрын
one more time…. majority of filipino viands (dishes) not desserts.. are best paired with plain white cooked rice. sort of bland taste of rice plus filipino food. good combo in your mouth.
@Griemmy2 жыл бұрын
All Filipino food are meant to be paired with Rice, we dont have a meal or any dish that is meant to be eaten alone like those of other countries, thats why our dishes always have that strong taste so that the rice can compliment it.

And it shouldn't matter anyway because what they say behind closed doors is something you'll never know about, so why waste your time making pointless assumptions. At least they were polite and didn't say anything disrespectful about Filipino food in front of the camera. It wouldn't make sense for them to outwardly express their opinion to the camera in a rude way as that would obviously offend people and what good would come from that?

The reason is for food preservation. Some ingredients available here in Ph for food preservation tends to be salty/sour. Rice is not the reason why we want our food salty/sour. It's eaten with rice to help with the saltiness/sourness due to the flavor caused by the ingredients.
@wreck-itralph9382 жыл бұрын
@@skittles2 I think the explanation is back then no one have fridge
@skittles22 жыл бұрын
@@wreck-itralph938 Yes, the culinary goes back before freezing/cooling preservation methods a.k.a. fridge. It is hot in Ph and the readily available solution is *surprise* salt (archipelago). As for tamarind, it used to be everywhere (and other variations). Notice that the sinampalukan also has the tamarind buds (usbong), and in some place where tamarind doesn't grow, they use a different sour fruit, I forgot what exactly the name is.
@mattattacky2 жыл бұрын
@@duanoz9709 Sure, most cuisine in Asia are usually paired with rice, but I don't think it's actually that common to eat the dish and rice in the same mouthful, like us Filipinos. This is coming from someone who's dated a Korean before.
@arxissky18192 жыл бұрын
I would say it's because of the climate. The Philippines is in the tropics so it is hot. What is the significance? Hot means sweating and when we sweat our bodies uses salty water as a primary ingredient. More sweating would lead to lesser salt levels in the body and in case you didn't know, salt is important for the functions of our bodies so deficiency of salt is not so good. How would our body replenish salt then? Through food, and that in effect makes our food saltier. Saltiness may also be attributed to food preservation (which is again connected to climate). The sourness can also be attributed to climate as sourness can cool down the body at least if you use tamarind as a souring agent, but the main contributing factor would definitely be because of food preservation.

Try searching for Pork Nilaga (bisaya version) instead Sylvia, I think Koreans would prefer it than Sinigang since it can be spicy and definitely has no sour taste. For reference here are the basic ingredients of the dish; - pork(with bones for tastier) - taro -cabbage - ginger -green chili -onion -salt, pepper -water Procedure: 1. Boil pork with seasoning and onion for 45-60 minutes. 2. Put-in taro, cook till soft. You may add ginger and green chilis this time as well . (note: the longer you cook the two spices the spicier the soup is) 3. Add cabbage and additional seasonings (if needed) simmer for 2-3 minutes. 4. Serve.

I've got a weird taste for food. For adobo, I usually dip it in vinegar with a dash of soy sauce and half a teaspoon of sugar which is optional. With sinigang I usually eat the vegetables first and eat the meat later be it pork, beef, or chicken. Sometimes I pair sinigang with menudo and dip it in fish sauce with crushed "labuyo"/chili pepper.
