They say that you generate power from the ground up. Using that "hop" at the right time probobly generate more power if used correctly . Example when Aldo threw that body shot knockout he did like a slight "hop" or generating energy with his calf muscles by doing a little calf raise off the ground producing such a powerful shot just by using the ground as a launchpad. Kinda like the masvidal knee. He generated so much power from the ground just by running and jumping off it!

Front and rounds I've always thought and did that way. Rounds more so, but I've noticed that in most of the videos I've seen. I think at least with the technicians and long legged guys anyway.

Would've been nice to get a demonstration.

I try to avoid "demo" versions in my technique vlogs if I can. I prefer to talk about training ideas and principles. There are some filmed examples of my own jumping on kicks in the longer version for patron supporters, but you don't really need them. Just jump on all your kicks. Feel uncomfortable, grown your balance. There is no "right" way to do it. It's about getting comfortable being uncomfortable.

@@8limbsUs When you state "jump", I assume you mean slight hop / being on your toes just to get your entire mass behind the kick, as opposed to taking a leap, correct?

I Would think this also mean less tension and torque on the supporting knee therefore prolonging knee health . Just a theory but one I will start trying

At what point do you “jump”? As the hips turn over right before your shin hits the bag, or do you execute the jump as your back leg leaves the ground? Maybe I’m misunderstanding

I do this on round kicks, but it’s almost imperceptible, just the supporting leg coming off of the ground when it would otherwise be pivoting. The concept may come from TKD, where the thinking is that : less contact= less friction= more speed.

Do you think Master K envisioned what an amazing voyage lay ahead of you when you first showed up on his doorstep?

Hmm, recently I've been trying specifically not to jump on my kicks. I realised that I jump on my left (switch) kicks, which prevents me really pushing my shin into people/the bag like I do on my right. It just doesn't feel as good.
