COOOL. First off, excellent choice of starter weapon! Not everyone likes it but it was my first love. Two things the game doesn't tell you about it: the whip form does serrated damage which is effective against beasts, and the stick form does some extra damage against certain later enemies. Second, an amazing job figuring out the map and exploring. It's the first time I've seen anyone pick up Madman's Knowledge before encountering the first boss. Third, every time you beat a boss, NPCs might have something new to say. Make sure to exhaust their dialogue. Finally, your shirt/dress/other garment is gorgeous! Subbed and belled!

You might just become the third concurrent Bloodborne playthrough I might start following :) You're doing great! Don't psych yourself out with these games' reputation of being incredibly difficult - if you're willing to learn, they're incredibly fair. These games are challenging, yes, but (extremely rare moments notwithstanding) NOT mean to you. This is my favourite game of all time, in my opinion a bona fide masterpiece. The interplay between mechanics, narrative and presentation is INCREDIBLE. Couple things (even though a ton of people have already jumped in - the Soulsborne community is passionate as hell!) -Your gun is (unless you're doing a specialty build) pretty much a Parry trigger. Hit L2 during an enemy attack (find the timing), you hear a Ding! and they take a knee. Stand in front of them and press R1. Massive damage! Works on most humanoid enemies. Those Shrek-looking guys are there as Parry training :) -Soulsborne stories are cryptic as all hell - FromSoft throws out 500 dots and leaves it up to you how many you can connect. Especially in this case though, not knowing what's going on is kind of a major thematic element to the whole thing. There is a stat named Insight (the eye in the top right), after all. Anyway, I'd say definitely keep reading item descriptions and notes, talk to NPCs, and look at stuff! -If you're gonna use the Cane, also use the Transformed (whip) mode! All weapons are awesome, but especially in their Transformed mode - that's where their most signature playing styles come out :) -You'll notice when you get hit that part of your health lingers in orange on your health bar. If you quickly hit back, you'll regain that part of your health! You being a game dev might already recognise what that's there to incentivize - to be agressive! Remember - YOU'RE the hunter! -You missed some stuff (and a cool ass NPC) around the sewers (the part beyond the dog kennels). Alrighty have a good one! Cheers! x
@karlvre87903 жыл бұрын
You did really well and you understood almost everything in a very, very cryptic game on your first try. Very impressive. Remember to get close to the enemy and press R1 for a viceral attack if you succeed in doing a stagger with the gun (the enemy will fall to their knees if you stagger them) It takes a while to get used to but it can be a huge advantage to learn it. Not all enemies are easy to stagger though. Good luck on a hopefully excellent experience. Bloodborne is a fantastic game

Don't forget about transforming your weapon. Different enemies have different weaknesses. Humanoids are weak to thrusting attacks, which your cane form can do and beasts are weak against serrations, which the whip form has. Whip form can also hitstun enemies in a wider area and has longer reach, but generally deals less damage. Transforming attacks do a little extra damage. You can also attack immediately after dodging. Dodging without a directional input will do a backdodge.

Oooooh, fun, a new "Souldborne" LP! I honestly don't watch lets plays very often, unless it's for some very specific reason, with the exception being THESE games. There's just something so entertaining about seeing other people go through the same trials and tribulations I did, and seeing their reactions to all of the memorable fights and OCCASIONAL BS :p Especially exciting it's your first one! There is a bit of learned behavior that you take from one game to the next, so each one you play actually makes you more competent at the subsequent games you play. So this being the first means you're gonna have MAXIMUM "oh shit" moments, which is always enjoyable :] You're probably deep in it by now, but I'll still just say: You probably got this. These games get talked up a lot, and they ARE a challenge, but if you put in the time, you'll get it down. It's really just a matter of learning the play patterns and being appropriately cautious. As you go through the game you'll start to better understand how to traverse the world, and it won't be such a giant pain in the ass.

You're doing fantastic! When it comes to using the gun, it's meant to be used as a tool to parry enemy attacks. The timing takes practice to figure out, and will be different for every enemy, but basically you want to get close to an enemy, and shoot them as their weapon is coming toward you. Most of us Bloodborne nuts practice on the big hulking troll guys who carry bricks or stone, because their attacks are relatively slow. When you get the parry right, you'll hear a loud sound and they'll drop to a knee. When they do, walk up to them, push the left stick toward them and press R1, and that'll execute a visceral attack that does massive damage. Sorry if that was too long-winded. Good luck and have fun, good hunter!

Just finished watching part1, I don't usually watch so long playthroughs on KZbin but seeing a new player in this game starting up, exploring and experimenting with weapons and things it's quite interesting, also it's funny seeing your reactions in ambushes and in appearances of strong foes like the executioner or the trolls! Also you did excellent for a new player as many people rightfully confirmed! Bloodborne is my favourite game i really enjoyed the video and I'm definitely gonna see the rest of the playthroughs!

You're WAY better at this when I started. I played Dark Souls before playing this and if you try to play the same way you're punished. Bloodborne is much more fast paced and aggressive. "Just keep swinging" is the right move in alot of situations where in Dark Souls its mostly back off and heal. Also I used the threaded cane in my first playthu as well! The whip part is great and has a damage increase vs some enemies. Also great vs groups of enemies with its range.

Dark souls 3 plays just like bloodborne in my opinion. Haven't played 1 or 2 But I can day I hate demon souls. That one is entirely different.

I have some tips for you if you'd like: explore the notes around the hunters dream, they offer some "tutorial tips". Talk to all the NPCs you find until they start repeating themselves to get all the dialogue. Also sometimes you can return to NPCs later in the game (often after bosses or other events) for new dialogue and other stuff. Your gun isn't really for dealing damage (for most play styles), you can shoot right before an enemy attacks to counter it and open them up for a visceral (R1 + stand as close as possible). Walking up behind an enemy slowly and heavy attacking will also cause them to stagger, opening them up to a visceral. Some enemies are immune to being staggered and visceraled. After you take damage, you'll notice a yellow bar in your health, this bar shows the amount of health you can regain if you attack that enemy within the next few seconds - you don't regain it all with a single hit, but bit by bit. Also, you can still regain some health after the enemy has died, so if there's still a yellow bar, keep hitting them.

this is probably my favorite FromSoft title, just something about the lore and it's gothic modern twist on the Fromsoft formula.. it's a much sleeker and faster game than Dark Souls, but it's also more forgiving and easier because of it, you'll see .. seriously, Bloodborne isn't _that_ hard, don't let anyone tell you you can't play this.. they're probably projecting.. any Soulsborne game is just about learning enemy patterns, the intricacies of the maps, and being patient but also decisive.. don't get me wrong, you will have to try certain sections over while you learn, but most of the time, you will make steady progress.. everyone has their boss/level/enemy type they struggle with, and what's hard for me, might be a breeze for you.. one way to make Bloodbourne easier, is to over-level your character, basically, practice a section over and again, using the XP you gain to make your character and weapons stronger.. it's almost a necessary practice in all Fromsoft games, unless you never die and/or never lose bloodechoes (souls).. but this is also where you'll grow your confidence, you'll have these maps and fights down to a science in no time.. Bloodborne is an excellent place to jump into Fromsoft's body of work, this is the beginning of an entirely new chapter for you, the next level of your gaming 'career' .. I'm so excited for you! Have fun! 😊👍😭😹

Very Well Put!! Circling back, on a section, that you struggle with, is SMART Bloodborne play!! You collect Echoes and level yourself up. Typically, PVE is all about the leveling, when things get rough.
@StayFractalesque3 жыл бұрын
@symbalily p.s. wow! you really are picking this up quickly, I want to answer some of your questions for you, you'll use this the rest of your playthrough.. so, both GoW and BB have charged heavy attacks.. hold R2 and charge until you release a massive attack that deals highest possible damage and also has decent chance to stun, especially basic enemies.. in BB, if you sneak up behind someone and fully charged Heavy Attack, you'll put them into a downed/vulnerability state, this is where the Visceral Attack comes in to play.. after you down them, indicated by an unmistakable sound queue, simply get close again in front or behind them, and Tap R1.. you will perform the Visceral, an even higher damage follow up move to the Heavy Attack.. every enemy can be put into a stunned state and Visceraled, no matter their size or strength, the higher your stats, the easier it will be.. you don't even have to sneak up on them to stun them, for example, some bosses, if you deal enough sustained damage over a short period of time, especially to their head, you can Stun them.. the Lock-On can be adjusted to different parts of their body by Locking-On then tapping the left stick to toggle between Center Mass, Head, or Limbs.. don't forget your weapon is a Trick weapon , you can chain the L1 transformation attack between standard R1s to create different sequences for more damaging combos.. try this, tap R1 tap R1 tap L1 hold R2 .. there's many different combos, and so many weapons, you'll need to experiment! .. the Threaded Cane when transformed has special properties, like a stronger stunning effect on beast type enemies, and high chance to inflict a bleed status as well.. also, your pistol is more of a shield than a gun, you want to time your shot to connect just as their swing is coming down and about to hit you.. a proper L2 Parry has the same effect as an R2 Heavy, cancelling their attack and downing them for you guessed it, a visceral attack.. the pistol does just enough damage that's it's also great at finishing off weak enemies from a distance without needing to put yourself at risk, as if, say, you're super low on health yourself.. one last thing, you have a short period of time (5 seconds) after you take any sort of damage to get that health returned back to you by dealing damage yourself.. this is a crucial mechanic for getting through tough fights, as blood vials are finite and only so many can be carried into battle.. a master hunter will be parrying often, using appropriate equipment and throwables, capitalizing with visceral attacks, and if hit deal as much damage back as possible to regain health and to save on resources.. oh, and Invincibility Frames.. you time your dodge just right and you will phase right through an incoming attack.. one of the most satisfying things in Soulsborne combat is getting that timing down, you feel like a god cause you literally will be untouchable.. just know that it's a thing and practice.. if you don't want to parry to stop the attack, just dodge at the right time and they might as well not even be attacking anyways..
@MrBedZeppelin3 жыл бұрын
@@StayFractalesque Well that covers almost ALL of the mechanics, in Bloodborne, for sure. I have seen people compare guns, to shields. You have to remember Symbalily has never used a shield (and obviously knows what they are for). Having played Souls games, YOU know their alternate effect/use, but she doesn't necessarily. The parry technique is somewhat more advanced, at this early stage. She will probably accidentally parry someone (or backstab), then ask, what she did. Great Breakdown of viscerals! Easily understood.

FYI when you pressed up on the D-pad you got more bullets for some blood. It’s like an exchange basically. It’s very useful and I would recommend doing it when you need a couple more bullets to parry. Which by the way this game has a parry system and it’s used via the gun. A well timed shot (Just before the enemy attacks) will cause a stun on the enemy and you can get a visceral which causes massive damage to the enemy. Most if not all bosses can be parryed as well.

Some beginners non spoilery tips: The slightly invisible, Ghostly Aberrations are other players, ONLINE playing, the game at the same time, as you. Notes, on the ground are from other players who give advice OR troll you with BAD advice. These notes CAN and will spoil certain aspects, of the story or future dangers. You HAVE the option, to play OFFLINE(in startup menu), to avoid these. Developers also reveal gameplay mechanics, with these messages which will appear in OFFLINE mode. The game Auto saves(or when you quit to main menu). Item Descriptions are important, to read for the Lore and specific item descriptions are generally the only way, to guide you through in understanding the game. NPC's are very vague and there is very little hand holding, in where you should go and what to do next. It will come to you naturally! Progression is made through "lamp to lamp" sections. As you progress and for production purposes, SOME record first time going through a section, then when you are NOT recording you can go backwards, to practice or level up and stock up on materials, without further progressing, the story. This way you don't have to record everything you do which will lengthen, your vids. Have fun!

This was NOT frustrating to watch at all! Ive seen this game through and through, countless of times, and have beaten it countless of times. And it's ALWAYS a pleasure to watch someone play through it for the first time, especially if it's their first Soulsborne game in general. The genuine reactions are what make it great. And for the record, your first time through what we call "the gauntlet" was incredible (the area with all the humans and giant beast on fire in the town center). You are so much better than you may think, and you figured out a lot on your own...things people dont realize/learn until further in the game. I've subscribed, and I look forward to watching this journey and watching you beat it!

An odd preference for pebbles over gunplay, may need polish, also more whip, but then again I've never actually seen a gun defeat either a pebble or a summersault with my own eyes in real life and have never been one to argue with that kind of science. 10/10 for time-loop insight gained. It's quite thrilling.

That's what I did, and since Dark Souls sort of accustoms one to a lot of Bloodborne's gameplay, it's so fun to see someone having the same experience I did. This popped up on my feed and honestly really enjoying it! Great start for a new player. Look forward to hearing more about what you think from a design perspective, because I think BB is such a well constructed game from both an aesthetic and level design perspective (with a few small exceptions like the excessive chromatic aberration). Also, you said in your intro you like story focused games. The FromSoft games have brilliant stories but it's not immediately obvious. BB wants you to put it all together but it doesn't give you the most useful information until much later. That's one thing I really want new players to pay attention to because too many new players jump in thinking the story to the game was an afterthought when in reality it's so critical to it!
