1. China will continue to progress steadily for further improvement in living standards of its 56 ethnic groups , even facing numerous foreign challenges . 2. It is good to know that China's whole population are firm believers in the Chinese saying " FOOLISH OLD MAN CAN REMOVE MOUNTAINS " ( 愚公移山 )。They can conquer / remove all obstacles / mountains in relatively short period of time , under the far-sighted , pragmatic , effective and innovative government leadership.

Such shallow discussions. Focused on surface issues that everyone knows without any deep reflection on why these are those issues.

Now that you know all about them, why would you persuade people, as I quote, "Ask 1.4 billion Chinese about the pros and cons of having CCP ruling, as compared with any rulings of anyone in Chinese history". Don't you know that Chinese people have been always deprived the right of free speeching? Given your comments, it seems to me that you are a little pinky, criticizing this discussion as shallow only because you don't like their opinion😅

The Fairbank scholars, I think, have to be very careful about what they say in public in order to maintain access to China, especially historical records. So, you have to read the tea leaves.

I am astonished by the suprafacial understanding of China in the past 75 years since Communist came into power! The fundamental difference between China under the communist party leadership and the capitalist countries is that the guiding principle of the communist government in China is to serve the interests of the people (whether it actually achieved that can be debatable), while the capitalist governments serve the rich and powerful (the capital and pursuit of profits). The insurmountable obstacle to the communist or socialist ideology is the human nature, which is selfishness and greedinesses. Mao Zedong fought hard to change human nature by launching cultural revolution, severing from the past and creating a new breed of people who are selfishless, and put the interest of the common good above their own, but I failed miserably (That’s why the Communist bloc failed). My principal to judge a person, or a leader, or a government is based on whose intent. Selfishness is ok as long as one doesn’t harm others. If the intent is is to gain at the sacrifices of others, it’s wrong! If a leader put his or her own interests above the interests of the people, he or she is a bad leader! The same apply to the governments.

"Mao Zedong fought hard to change human nature by launching cultural revolution, severing from the past and creating a new breed of people who are selfishless, and put the interest of the common good above their own..." What a bunch of nonsense. Mao launched the Cultural Revolution to use it as a tool to seize power. Before the Cultural Revolution, Mao was in the wilderness following the disaster he wrought during the Great Leap Forward, which caused massive starvation while Liu Shaoqi was in charge. He used the Cultural Revolution and the Red Guards to maneuver himself back into power. You are really naive.

And if Chinese culture was so bad that it needed a cultural revolution, how do you explain the success of Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore? These are economies that are either Chinese or heavily influenced by China. Culture can't change like that by some political movement, no matter how radical. If it is only that easy.

I am a palled by your filthy language! Please be civil…! Grab power for whom? For benefiting himself or the people? Look at how he lived his life! His pajama got 39 patches, did he leave any wealth to his family/children? Not a dime! I am not saying cultural revolution is the right thing to do, I am saying his intent/motive is to change human nature from selfishness to selfishnessless which is the root cause of all evil! That’s impossible! So he failed spectacularly! That’s his big mistake! But his intent is for common good.

@@cgtian5616 Grab power for whom? For himself! Look at how he lived his life! Exactly. You should look at Mao's life not through the propaganda of the CCP but through historical records. Mao lived like an emperor. There is a copious amount of material documenting Mao's life when he was alive. Mao was a traitorous SOB who first colluded with the Soviet Union and served as a foreign agent in helping to establish the puppet regime called the Chinese Soviet Republic in 1931 and then with Japan during the Sino-Japanese War. I can't believe there are people as naive as you.
