The second E-Lecture about PDE adverbials deals with the functional subdivision of this complex class. Using numerous examples, Prof. Handke discusses the central properties that keep adjuncts and subjuncts, on the one hand, and disjuncts and conjuncts, on the other, apart.

Thank you for your video; it's all wonderfully explained. However, I have a question: aren't viewpoint subjuncts ("Architecturally...") and content disjuncts ("Unfortunately...") pretty much the same? I'm not able to distinguish them. :/

Eine Frage bitte, bei 9:30 "The plans represent a magnificent concept". Wieso ist "a magnificent concept" ein Adverbial? Achso, hat sich geklärt. Haha.

It was fortunate that Hilda helped Tony--that is well formed not the use of the ADV as you stated.

"It was, however, Hilda who helped Tony." How is this sentence ungrammatical? Especially if preceded by a sentence like "Linda did nothing to help." At 7:51 to 8:01, you say that this doesn't work. Can you please explain in what way this is incorrect?

In "It was, however, Hilda who helped Tony.", the focus is not on the conjunct but on the subject. But if you say "It was not however but thus that Hilda ..." then the focus is on the coinjunct. And that doesn't work.

@@oer-vlc ohh, I didn't notice it before 😅. Since most of Linguistics students all over the world study " A University grammar of English " , it would be more useful , if you make lectures based on it 🤔
