I remember playing this game in the 90s when our family bought our first PC. The PC came with a CD with games on it: Syndicate, Strike Commander (flight sim), and Ultima 8: Pagan. Good times.

Multimedia kit from Creative, eh? I managed to save that CD. Love all three games equally. Syndicate had a such tense atmosphere. Pagan was my first RPG experience. Strike Commander, very addictive - taking on missions, buying weapons, not to mention the flying part.

OMG. For over a decade I thought it was "syllicate" like the person was misspeaking the title of the game. I could never figure out why they would include that if it was a mistake. Now I know it's "selected." Thank you so much.

One of the greatest games EVER.. I understand recently remade into FPS, sounds great and I am eager to check that out. I think this game would be ridiculous if someone could 'remake' it just like it was but with better 3D graphics ( switch between 3rd and fps view) and additional features/levels. They could keep all the original level designs and add new ones for each battle zone on the map. All the original gear plus cool new gadgets and weapons, they will make billions.

Ooooh the suspense, Bullfrog did a fine job on this gem. I've played this game days on end, never got bored of it. I wish there was a way to play it again. (without roms and stuff) This game, lands of lore, dune 2, little big adventure, most point and click adventures. Just some big stock of all our old favorite games in one big online database which we could play, server side. (backward combatibility) Sounds like a dream to me.

@solidworm39 As far as I can tell it is not. They said that some of the 4 player coop missions are supposed to be remakes of some of the original Syndicate missions but the main SP game seems to be a complete new game. Story is about a single agent (Miles Kilo or something) and his mentor. It's basically just an FPS which is set in the Syndicate universe but it's a complete different game.

I too felt it was hard back when it was released. But when I played it more recently, it wasn't that hard. I cleared the base game with ease, and only got stuck on American Revolt expansion mission 1 (this reminds me that I should watch a walkthrough and try again).

@blklightning330 Problem is that Syndicate is an RTS game not a shooter. It wasn't meant to be like wolfenstein, doom or whatever else so there is no point to criticise something that never was meant to be in the game in the first place. So you like shooters, yeah whatever we all do but that doesn't make syndicate a bad game just because it's not a shooter. It's like saying: Hey starcraft would be good if it werent a top down point and clicky thingy.

Last time I played this was in 1997 IIRC on a PC, while I was still a uni student. Impressive game even by that time. Of course Quake 2 and Half Life were soon there (and GTA) which completely sucked our time from Syndicate (and studies lol)

If you mean whats going on in the missions here you would just have to read the mission briefs ^^ The first one is an assassination mission where I'm supposed to kill an army colonel leader who is stealing our resources to equip is mercenaries. The second mission is a Personnel Aquisition mission where I have to "persuade" 2 scientists and evacuate them.

@vigteo1 Basically yes, but it went a completely different direction. Even the story or the Agents are completely different than they are here. The new Syndicate is actually not a remake it is more like a re interpretation of the old game how they would like to see it (Or whatever EA told them to do :P ) So the only things the games have in common are the name and the setting.

I played that like 15 years ago when I was 9 years old. I don't know what I was doing wrong back then but I'd always trigger some sort of alarm, scary music would start and those other commando-pricks would show up and whack me.

@NostalgicGames it is supposedly being made by Starbreeze ( The Darkness, The Chronicles of Riddick games) under the code name Project Redlime and should be published by EA. That's what I've gathered so far, honestly, I don't know if it's still on the works, but there's nothing else prooving the contrary either.

@NostalgicGames yea GOG sets up the dosbox config for each game that requires it , I bought a ton of game from there and only had to make a minor tweak here and there in the Dosbox config for only about 4 games and that's only to lower the cycles a bit or swap the render option to Direct Draw

This game was a lot of fun. Remember playing it with a friend when I was a kid. It got really hard by the end, so we never made it through. I remember it being a bit less orange and more dark though, but hey, that's what memory does I guess.

Some stages do have a gray theme, some have orange. Your memory serves you right :) The expansion (American Revolt) was largely gray if I am remembering correctly (was also much harder).

@yoomazir Yeah those are the information I got too but not more. I for one hope that if the game is still being made, that they don't screw it up. Making it into a first or third person shooter would be the first step in the wrong direction. But I would like to see how a cyberpunk game like syndicate could look with the advanced graphical technology the game industry has under their hands ^^

The description tells you almost everything you have to know about the game in addition to the video ^^ The game plays basically like a more action oriented version of "Commandos" Only thing I left out is that you can set the taxes in regions you have taken over.

The multiplayer lives up to the Syndicate legacy. The single player isn't bad, so far. Bosses are challenging, which is great.

I know the sound effect is supposed to say "syndicate" when you select agents or weapons in the missions, but all I could ever hear that synthesized voice sample say was "Jonathan". This immediately came to mind when that dumb Laurel & Yanni thing came up just under a decade ago. I hope I'm not alone here.

The gog.com release works fine on my laptop with Windows 7. It may not work with the default settings on Vista / 7 but that version comes with configuration tool, just change the video mode to "ddraw" and it should work fine (or try the other options if not). BTW: Syndicate (the real one ;-) ) is on sale this weekend at gog.com!

This game came on my first ever computer. I remember playing it when I was like 6 years old. This is the first REAL game I ever played on PC. Unless you count Berenstain Bears. I just downloaded it from EA, just wanted to remember how to play it. Not sure how I ever figured it out as basically a toddler

@DanielAvelan Ofcourse, but that is still far away from the "Blade Runner looks" Deus Ex 1 was designed like the late 90s/early 2000 mixed with a bit of hi-tech. Deus Ex IW is mostly the same with a little more futuristic look in some places (Upper seattle, Arcology) Only The new Deus Ex which is coming out soon has the Blade Runner feel to it which is kinda cool but looking at the story it just doesn't fit. (Prequel to DX1) ;)

@ErikJAwesome I think the sound was a bit better in the Amiga version but the difference isn't that big in Syndicate like it was with other games. It was mostly the music that was a bit different and the rest is almost the same. ;)

I own the 2012 version, but I'd gladly play this. The 2012 version is good for its action and that it puts players right in the action. The 1993 (correct my date if I'm wrong) version however, seems like it wouldn't bore as easily, as it appears to be tactical, and downright amusing as you have four trench-coat wearing agents, toting various armaments and dispatching whatever threats come their way in order to secure their objective.

If you are into oldschool stuff you really should give GOG a try. They actually do a lot to make the games work fine on Windows 7 although all of their DOS releases simply use a preconfigured DosBox.

@NostalgicGames The multiplayer is pretty faithful to the concept of the original. Four cybernetically-enhanced agents sent in to do missions, mixed in with some Call of Duty flair (loadouts, perks, etc...) and some actual character customization (upgrades and research). They even have some of the missions from the original, such as the Atlantic Accelerator, I -think- what could be the first mission in Europe... I'm enjoying it so far. That's the point I should be getting to. =/

@buffyou101 No patch that I know of it only works with the DosBox Emulator. But if you would buy the gog.com version it probably is already set up to work on newer systems. (Never bought anything there so I can't give you any exact informations)

It's possible that you may have an Amiga version or something? Because these won't work under Dosbox. Maybe you should buy the GOG.com version, their games are already set up to be played without any hassle. Otherwise search for a PC specific download for Syndicate in google and look up the Dosbox guide to know how to set it all up.
