What I found so interesting about the inn conversation 19:20 is Sherlock isn’t afraid of the hound, he’s afraid that his mind is failing him. That he’s struggling to rationalize and catalog the seemingly cryptic information. A bit not good testing it out on John 😅

*"Really, Watson, you excel yourself," said Holmes, pushing back his chair and lighting a cigarette. "I am bound to say that in all the little accounts which you have been so good as to give of my own small achievements you have habitually underrated your own abilities. It may be that you are not yourself luminous, but that you are a conductor of light. Some people without possessing genius have a remarkable power of stimulating it."* _The Hound of the Baskervilles,_ Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

When this episode was aired, Mark Gatiss tweeted something like 'writing this episode was a beast' on how hard he found it to write this well known story but he did a very good job for our guys to act in it. Also, it was then talked about in the press that Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss weren't sure this show could continue cause the two main actors became to big and they were hinting that this would/could be the last season (as you know by now, it was not). Steven: "the only way we can keep on making this show is if we lock Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in our basement". Just to give you an idea what the vibe was back in 2012.

That is not Stannis it's a different actor. Stannis was played by Stephen Dillane and the Major in this is Simon Paisly Day.

The novel is called The Hound Of The Baskervilles, which they changed to The Hounds Of Baskerville for this, because they always change the original title slightly in this show

The letters in the lights are just showing you the letter that John is perceiving it to be in Morse Code. It’s nothing to do with subliminal messaging.

The scene in the inn when John calls him Spock is kind of Meta. Sherlock says “when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?” Spock says the same thing in Star Trek but it’s implied that he was either a descendant of Sherlock Holmes or Arthur Conan Doyle. Some fans think it’s not possibly for him to be Holmes’ descendant because he was still a fictional character in universe. There many theories as it why Spock stated that it was his ancestor who had originally said it. But you get where I’m going with it being Meta.

A really cool version of subliminal messaging as advertising came with Max Headroom and the blipverts in the '80s. It's a show that was *so* far ahead of its time, and I think both of you would love that series. It's a very cool, yet dystopian, view of our future as a society.

Dr. Frankland is played by Clive Mantle who actually WAS in Game of Thrones - one of the Northern warlords. Back in the 80s, he played Little John in the highly acclaimed Robin of Sherwood series.

The book is _The Hound of the Baskervilles._ As usual, they changed the title (although less so than usual) for this show. The betting scene is from the short story, "The Blue Carbuncle." The drugged fog is somewhat based on "The Devil's Foot." The Great Grimpen Mire was a treacherous bog that could be deadly if you stepped wrong, as a Dartmoor pony did early in _Hound._

AI says - Yes, subliminal messaging can have some effect, but it's usually minimal and depends on several factors: Subliminal messages can influence behaviour Subliminal messages can increase the likelihood of someone doing something they already intend to do. For example, if someone is already thirsty, seeing a subliminal message to drink a specific brand of soda may make them more likely to buy it. Subliminal messages can affect opinions Subliminal messages can influence opinions of political candidates. Subliminal messages can affect delayed decision-making Subliminal messages can affect decisions made later in time, especially if they contain novel information. Subliminal messages are not brainwashing Subliminal messages don't completely change people or brainwash them into doing something. Subliminal messages are not automatic The brain's response to subliminal messages depends on attention. For example, if a person is already engaged in a difficult task, subliminal messages are less likely to be effective. Subliminal messages can be ineffective for weight loss There's little scientific evidence that subliminal messages can help people lose weight. Subliminal messaging is banned in many countries, including the UK and Australia.
