Ladies and gentlemen, May I present you "Rebirth" -- my latest ambient chillout piece on Waldorf MicroWAVE XT synthesizer + reverb. I hope you enjoy this relaxing soundscape. For me it evokes feelings of spirituality and visions of far-off galaxies and new worlds... hopefully for you, too. Pls listen with headphones, and enjoy the ride. Love your improvisational technique and tweaking of the monster that is the Waldorf Microwave XT. It's truly a proper synth with even FM possibilities as well as the very deeply complex wavetable synthesis! This is very calming for my military PTSD and it's also a reason I do similar works with all my synths. I just have not made any YT videos or sound cloud demos a of yet. This is by far one of the best XT demos and hope you present more of your new Waldorf Q.

Your MWXT uploads are what helped clarify in my mind, that this was the perfect piece of hardware for my next purchase. It so perfectly embodies the types of flowing, expansive sounds, and timbres/textures I'm drawn to. I've owned a lot of synths over the past 4 decades, but this seems to be in a whole different class - esp. because of the wavetables and long flowing envelopes, arpeggiator, etc. Another spectacular upload. You're videos are always completely Next Level. Thanks for all you do to assist those of us with an Oscillator Fetish to hear different gear, and the great way you use it all....

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the kind words. The XT is in a class of its own when it comes to digital wavetable synthesis... it is very proud to be digital and can be lush or piercing at times, and everything in between. You won't regret getting one if you like the sound of it!

Thanks very much! Yea, Virus B reverb is decent, but its really the MicroWAVE XT that's putting out the lovely melodies on this one. The sounds it creates can be otherworldly at times... just wish it had its own built-in reverb. :)

Still coming back to listen to this one again. Just got my MWXT last week. Hard to believe that you're getting this much arpeggiated sonic flow from just the 10 Voice version. A synth worthy of much exploration - to be sure. This upload is one of the primary things that convinced me that this was an optimal piece of gear for my musical art project. Thanks so much for all your effort and energy - I expect that many of us are in the same boat as myself - not able to get hands on access to some of this gear, and very grateful for the many insights available by watching your videos....

Thank you so much, I am touched by your kind words. I'm very happy you finally got yourself an XT, is it the 10 or 30 voice version? I agree, even the 10-voice can do wonders as it seems note stealing is rarely present. Pair your XT with a nice reverb and get transported to the stars!

My unit is just a 10 voice version. I'm really into the wavetable sounds. I had a Blofeld for a while, but had issues with the encoders, etc. I've always had a bit of an Oscillator Fetish. Started buying (and selling) synths back in the late 70's. I bought the MWXT to use in a musical art project. Antique bells and synthesizers, creating live, ambient loops - while riding a sort of exercise bike, pedalling to generator the electricity for the electronics. Here's a House music upload I did a while ago on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ6khWqJecedn8U Greetings - from the middle of NowHere, in a remote area of a Canadian Forest

What a stunning patch!! Could you help me out in understanding synth patches like these? i want to build something like this with NI Form. you set your Arp to a slow rate, but in what note intervals? what is getting modulated during playback? wavetable position of course, but what else? how do you get the bursts of high frequencies (sometimes you tweak sth. different than the filter cutoff)?
@synth4ever
@synth4ever 2 жыл бұрын
This was done nearly ~8yrs ago... slow arp, 1-3 octaves, notes input via keyboard, tweaking filter, envelopes, LFO primarily. All of it fed through Access Virus B reverb. If you look at a photo of XT interface vs what I tweak in video it will tell you exactly the parameters.
@TheElectroCompany
@TheElectroCompany 2 жыл бұрын
@@synth4ever wow, thanks for your reply! :) I know, it's really long time ago, but the sound is truely timeless :) I really got a few sound experiments running, and i think i got it! the modulation is key, scanning through the wavetable and making changes to ringmod/FM/filter opening etc. but maybe you could help me out with this one: does OSC1 have a different volume env than OSC2? sometimes i got the feeling one OSC is playing plucky parts of your notes and one is playing more elongated stuff. best regards and keep on jamming! great channel :D
@synth4ever
@synth4ever 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheElectroCompany Honestly I don't recall. Plucks could be from shortened attack time on envelopes and increasing filter ENV amount. Reverb also helps elongate the sound. Cheers!

@onegoestofour 10 жыл бұрын
Nice work as always. So what you do is you create a midi sequence, run it through the waldorf and you change the parameters, right?
@synth4ever
@synth4ever 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks much! What you describe is one way of creating the music, however in my case I do not use a DAW or pre-planned MIDI sequences, so this does not apply. I basically played around with the XT's arpeggiator using a controller keyboard (MIDI OUT to XT's MIDI IN) and then adjusted parameters on XT after I found a pattern/melody I liked. Experimentation with the arpeggiated notes was key... as was adding reverb (in this case, from Virus B).

synth4ever i spoke with wolfram Franke (ex Waldorf développer) and he told me that blofeld has a more powerful synthesis in general than microwave.. i use it with an editor called Blowfield and it's amazing because it has a randomize function on every section of the synth instead of just one global random .. great for sound design !
@synth4ever

@burger659
@burger659 9 жыл бұрын
+synth4ever yes sure, and it sounds already beautiful ! but in fact ,every sound source passed through big reverb is usable for ambiant soundscape..especially granular and spectral or even simple sounds. what do you think about a comparaison with the blofeld..that one sounds really awesome too.. and can go even deeper & cover more new territory than microwave..due to the good mod matrix & display. and the 1000 patches are many good starting points for explorations.
@synth4ever
@synth4ever 9 жыл бұрын
+BRIAN BURGER Indeed, reverb is often the secret sauce that makes stagnant sounds, sound great... reverb is critical for ambient. I haven't personally tried Blofeld but have heard it is very capable, however the interface does not excite me compared to Waldorf XT and there's enough in the XT to keep me busy for a long time. :)

the reverb on Virus B sounds amazing... suspected it could be great for ambient, but never heard it in such manner with another instrument. is it possible to set the Virus FX to act as bus effect i.e. as "wet 100%" ? is there any direct XT signal here, it sounds so spacious ? thanks, great work ;)
@synth4ever
@synth4ever 10 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes it is possible to use Virus FX as wet 100% effects bus... that is basically what I did here. Everything you hear is the Waldorf XT, which is then fed through Virus B's reverb. There are no Virus B synth sounds, it is 100% Waldorf XT generating the music and tones... Virus B was only used for it's big reverb :)
