Nice. Honestly never heard for this tune. This choir 'thing' reminds me on The Age Of Love (Jam & Spoon mix)

I don't know why, but the specific combination of that sampled choir sound and the gated pattern has something very special to me and triggers something deep inside. In the very beginning of the video, I've instantly got an xtc flashback for a few seconds. Btw, I was born in the 90s, so I didn't rave to the music of its time back then.

Gating is fun. Used it a lot in software (mostly 'trackers') on all kinds of instruments and vocals (samples). Might have been slightly overused in early 90's techno and trance, but still a fun trick to play around with.

For this I used always MIDI-Gates (MIDI Controller Number 7 --> Volume On/Off). 🙂

Yep me too but never quite going to off (prevented clicks). Definately dont need this much outboard to do it!

Sometimes there were problems with Midi timing. (Midi channel was too busy providing all the note data and volume data etc..) I used a Yamaha TX81Z to give gate trigger to Yamaha 01V or 02R mixer's gate. By doing that I had better timing and possibility to adjust gate parameters like attack and release.

Very interesting and good to know it. Never ending story reminds me of Limahl theme and of course Giorgio Moroder and in the same year, from Giorgio Moroder the song Love Kills (Freddie Mercury), both songs have some complex arpeggios, more notably in Love Kills it seems to be played two or three arpeggios at the same time (probably with Jupiter 8?), it would be nice if one day you could make a "dissecction" of that theme from Metropolis soundtrack. Thank you and have a nice weekend!.

Dear Mr Varaldo, thanks very much for this tip. I'd always wondered how this was done in the past, on so many house/rave/techno songs. Now I understand a little clearer how you get to the end result, but a couple of questions if I may. 1) How is the 909 connected to the Drawmer? Is it just the instrument (or main outs) into the gate, or is it the trigger out? Could you give a little more detail on how the 909 and the Korg are connected up? 2) Can a modern gate achieve the same result, such as a DBX 166XS ? Thanks!

To be precise these are not triplets. These are staccato 16ths.
@stefan10247 жыл бұрын
If you play them sloppy enough, they are!
@SynthManiaDotCom7 жыл бұрын
Yes, but how do you name the technique, "staccato 16ths"? No. The fourth note in the 16th pattern never plays in any of the beats. So it's a bit of a hack, but I think it's more accurately descriptive, that way.
@SynthManiaDotCom7 жыл бұрын
Right! :-D
@xp50player7 жыл бұрын
Any group of three notes does not make a triplet, lol. The choir sound is righteous though. I miss my 01/Wfd now.
@meg42017 жыл бұрын
In the original it sounds like the final note in the gate sequence is open (keeps playing), while in your version it's staccato.
@scorinth7 жыл бұрын
Ribbity Rabbity I would chalk that up to a difference in the gate settings closing the gate earlier or later in the hi-hat "tail".
@punlovincriminal55647 жыл бұрын
Hello there. Love your work, keep it up!!. I was wandering if you think there is any noticeable differences between the juno 6 and the juno 60?. I only ask because I have a juno 6 but was thinking of changing to a 60.
@RonnieAugeri7 жыл бұрын
The only difference is the high pass filter of the 60 is notched while the 6 is a continuous fader. The 60 obviously has patch memory as well. Sound wise they are identical so I would opt for the 60 as this synth has a vast pallet of sounds and it's nice to save them.
@RonnieAugeri7 жыл бұрын
Plus the 60 has the dcb built into it so you can adapt it to midi.

I ever thought it was taken from a Korg M1 instead an 01/W .. ( I own both :) )
@pekkagronfors73047 жыл бұрын
Nice but a bit unclear. How are the gate connected? Is the sound coming from the synth through the gate??? Or from the synth alone??
@JoriDiculous7 жыл бұрын
The gate is "opening" and "closing" the sound from the synth, the rhythm triggered by the 909.

Hi, Paolo! Please tell me, how is this hard distinctive sound of the bass drum "Eurodance" a La La bouch, ice MC, Masterboy and others?
@DuckTronic5 жыл бұрын
On the Sample CD "Dance Mega Drums" from Best Service you can find "BASSDRUM096". For me it sounds exactly like "La Bouche - Sweet Dreams" or "Charly L. & Mental T. - Wonderful Days". And it is close to Masterboy, but not exactly.

Hey I've subscribed to your channel and watched most of your videos.. I've been a dj since the late 80's and im looking to start making music... What equipment do u suggest I start off with ? Thank you again in advance..
@SynthManiaDotCom7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Billy, since you have a DJ background, I'd suggest Ableton Live or Image Line FL Studio. Those two DAWs are widely used in modern electronic / DJ music. Then, all you need is a 2-channel USB audio interface, a couple of studio monitors (and/or good quality mix / reference headphones), a couple of cables to connect the audio interface to the monitors, and a modern USB & MIDI 61-key keyboard controller (better if it has control knobs and MPC-style drum pads). And you might want to add a sustain pedal to the keyboard as well.
@billykatsoulakis82587 жыл бұрын
SynthMania Thank you... So I'll keep you posted But so far I own Ableton Live 9 with push and I've been drooling over your synths because I love that old school sound... Know what I mean? Anyhow thank you again for the advice And keep up with these great videos....
