This is the story of someone who suffered as a child, was abandoned for it, and has continued to perpetuate cycles of abuse. Being lied to and sent somewhere else by your parents, even if it’s for a good reason (like they decided that they were unable to care for her, or that they were worried she would hurt someone), IS abandonment. The person being interviewed here isn’t at fault, she didn’t neglect her sister, she was a small child that couldn’t have done any different. But her sister’s toxic and abusive behaviours come out of pain and heartache, not being a bad person or trying to annoy anyone. Self-destructive behaviours are the result of abuse, period.

As a younger child, I do have less rules than what my sisters had at my age but I also learned what not to do from my older sisters. As someone with a Filipino parent(mom), yeah it's kinda weird. Ok so basically a lot of Filipino parents, to my understanding, are the stereotypical strict asian parent. Love is more "oh that's good," or "you did good." I got a good bit of "why can't you do better?" so if that's how her parents were like to her older sister, as a kid that can be really taxing mentally. Also, the Philippines really isn't a place you want to live for a while. It's a beautiful country but it's got issues, Mosquitoes are pretty bad over there with Malaria and dengue. Also tagalog, the filipino language, is kinda tricky. I understand very little of it. Lots of one and two letter words. Like I can understand both sides to her story. As a kid, my parents fought a lot and I didn't understand at all what was happening so family conflicts at a young age really make it so you struggle with trusting your family. I'm not saying that her parents are bad. Just that it can be very difficult to live with people you don't trust and here it worked both ways.
@HiyuMarten4 жыл бұрын
Her parents are bad, her parents are awful. I have a Chinese-Malaysian parent and I thought I got off easy. Talking to native Swedes now that I live in Sweden, HOLY SHIT was my parent awful and strict and abusive. I have trauma, I literally can't go back to visit them without my body freaking out.

I really relate to this video. I have a sister who growing up caused a lot of mischief for my parents. I would constantly get into fights with her and she'd threaten me a lot and hit me. She would run away a lot and got sent to juvey at one point. Things got so bad for my family that my parents sent her to foster care for awhile, because she would constantly attack them physically. Her grades were so bad my parents sent her to this program that was basically boot camp to earn extra credit. I vividly remember her even having a seizure in front of me, because of a suicide attempt. I don't remember a lot of my childhood just because I blocked most of it out. I can only hope this girl's sister gets the help she needs and becomes a better person. My sister is a mom now and I talk to her frequently. It's weird to think that we're close. She's improved so much to the point where I genuinely respect her. It freaks me out knowing this could have been me and her where I don't see her or talk to her, so I'm just happy knowing she had the resources to find help. ;-;

My relationship with my family is really tense right now, and it started to make me feel like running away too. I'm scared of them because of their political beliefs and the way they talk about gay/trans people like me. I don't want to hate them, but the constant misunderstandings between me and my filipino mom make it hard. Watching this video made me realize how thankful I should be that I have a good relationship with my sister. This actually remind me a lot of my older brother, not all of it, but pretty much it's the same story of sexual harassment at a young age and mental illness with suicide attempts, so yeah my biggest brother it's almost a foreign person to me now, but i still talk to him some times, it's really weird and i don't like it, but all my family (except my other older brother) seems to think that i should still speak to him.

You do need to focus on the past to see what went wrong and repair the damage. The sister is walking around with a stab wound in the heart and the knife is still there. Sister was basically given an unrealistic standard of acceptable behaviors and when she didn’t meet them she was emotionally told she’s not loved. Well she couldn’t meet that standard and said, it’s too painful to not be loved by my parents so I’ll look for love from these guys. Sister doesn’t love herself either because kids think how their parents treat them is a reflection of the kids self worth so she believes she’s not worthy of love. Hence the lies. Thinking “if my husband really knew me then he wouldn’t love me anymore, because I inherently am not worthy of love. So it’s better to be loved while pretending to be someone else.”

Her sister reminds me so much of my brother, always playing victim, lying, and stealing; incredibly selfish and self-centered and makes it harder for my parents and I. My parents gave us everything we have ever needed and wanted and he still says to them that whenever they wanna get something for themselves they are selfish because they aren't thinking of him.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you are not obligated to people who are toxic. That includes friends you've known forever, lovers, and family. If you can cut them out of your life forever, DO IT and don't feel guilty! Take care of yourself first!
@kaiceecrane38844 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, but I feel people ought to know what the means. It is important to talk about love. Love is a commitment, if you can't commitment to someone, to be their for them and with them, you don't actually love them. This is particularly important for people who at one point you did love, such as close family members, giving up and them is to no longer love them. You are obligated to do anything, but any and every action has consequences both good and bad. If you love someone you stay, you help them, you listen to them, you are their for them and that is what family is supposed to be. No, not every family is like that, but at that point it becomes questionable if they are even your family. Family is those who love you. Sometimes family members get hurt and sometimes they hurt you, in both cases there is an issue if not multiple issues that need to be addressed and solved if you truly love them. You don't abandon people you love, you don't give up on them, that would be to no longer love them. The question then is, are you willing to live with those consequences. This isn't a moral or ethical argument, I'm not here to say what action you take is good or bad, that is for you to decide. I'm just here saying there is nuance to these decisions and aspects of them that need to be discussed. Personally, I have been in the position where I've had to take of myself and abandon those I once loved, and it is hard and not by any means of light choice I had to make. It was a choice I only made when I felt there was nothing left to give. In doing so I hurt them, I gave up and abandoned them, that is the nature of leaving people, but sometimes it is worth it (in my opinion) to protect yourself and continue being able to live. Hurting others is hard, especially people you once loved, to stop loving someone is hard thing to do.
@vrpnblstr34414 жыл бұрын
It is ok to cut yourself from people when you feel you can't be there for them or if it hurts too much but just considering them as "uuhg toxic gtfo my life" is a really selfish point of view. I rly don't like this "toxic" term because I feel like it emphasises the responsibility of the person you consider toxic in their own behavior. In this case, and in a lot of others, people that are qualified as toxic are mostly hurt themselves and some of the time engage in self destructive behaviour by actively burning bridges between them and others. There is a reason why they are "toxic" and it is ok if you can't handle them to cut them off but holding grief and erasing them completely from your life without hopes of second chance (unless they are tied up to some deep trauma of yourself and even the thought of them makes your life miserable) feels selfish and a bit dumb.
@lalalalaaAa1234 жыл бұрын
Verpine Blaster If it’s selfish to cut someone out of your life who is only doing you harm, I encourage everyone on this planet to be selfish. 😬 It’s okay if you disagree, but I can’t imagine living your life... Do you really keep people around who make you unhappy? Why? There are other ways to help people in need without being bullied, for example I work with special needs children. They need me to have boundless positive energy every day, and having (let me say it again) TOXIC people in my circle would detract from that.

I like the interviewee didn't get influenced by her sister for her sister's poor behavior. I also hope both the sister and the interviewee don't pass down that crappy parenting skill. Sending a kid away during teenage year (speculating) against their will is a really bad move. Not only will you not able to guide them, but also take away the love they need. If kids feel like nobody love them, and to "avenge" their parents by going self-destructive isn't uncommon. Good for the sister finally settling down and that the interviewee is doing ok

CTG_AverageJoe “Foreign concept” a concept someone is not familiar with or can’t relate to. In this case, condoms are a foreign concept to your parents. Another example, waking up early on a Saturday may be a foreign concept to someone who usually wakes up at noon. But that’s funny, hopefully they made enough to provide for you, mate.

I feel so bad for the sister in question because she reminds me of myself. I also often have bad experiences with close relationships (never cheating though) and I also have s***idal tendencies. Whenever this person slandered her sister, it felt like she was talking about me, which hurt a lot. This is coming from someone who suffers from depression and anxiety. What the sister really needed was love and support and people showing that they cared. I don't think the parents did the right thing. Sending the sister in question to another country for multiple years to 'get properly disciplined' is not the answer. It will never be the answer. If someone is destructive, they must get help before it's too late. No wonder the daughter didn't want them in her life afterwards. And the person who is talking doesn't seem very supportive, either. If I had a sister who always expected the worst out of me, I also wouldn't have a happy ending. Also, when the person said 'she did this to herself', I felt so angry and annoyed. The sister tried to K1*L herself by taking pills. Who says 'you brought this on yourself' after a near death situation? I understand why she was angry, but I would never give up on a loved one when they need me the most. I need people to support me, or of course I'll want to d*e. Edit: I do think that the 35K stealing is messed up, though. I'm talking about before that. Stealing money is obviously wrong.

[" Seems like a severely abusive family. People don't just turn out like that when they have truly loving and supportive people around them. Her parents are probably quite evil. 10:20 - If your sister being sexually assaulted and then not believed is just 'drama' then that explains a whole lot. This girl is far from innocent. Neglect is severe abuse. Saying things like 'you cant turn back time' that's just an excuse. Her sister has experienced lifelong abandonment from the entire family and no matter what she did they would not listen. I pray that the sister who was sent away will have some semblance of a peaceful life... but that's pretty unlikely with a family and sister like this... hopefully she will find a therapist or friend who will give two shits about her. "]
