It can apply to any relationship. Even relationships with animals (Like owner and pet relationship like best friends type shit) but non verbally could apply to this if you think about it. Like, my rabbit attacks my parents when they try to pet him but he loves me so much that he grooms me at 3:00 AM every morning. It's really strange how animals attatch to a specific person and struggle to interact with others.

I feel for Rubberninja when he says "when youre younger youll just take the first thing that comes along" having someone who you THINK cares about you in a relashionship is a nice feeling. However it blinds you, you miss the red flags that pop up and you give that person the benefit of the doubt that maybe theyre acting a certain way for a legit reason. You give that person time/energy/affection and they end up just kinda throwing you away.
@zimmyyzz99715 жыл бұрын
David Garcia dude, your right and Ross was right. I wish I knew that when I was younger. That would have helped me so much.

I totally sympathize. My ex was obliviously strained in our relationship, but I was so desperate for the attention and clouded by my own affection that i couldn't see things from her perspective. I'm still reeling from the break up 7 months later, even knowing that it was for the best, because I relied on the relationship too much for my feelings of self-worth. I have to focus on learning to love myself first and foremost, or I'll always be dependent on others.
@DavidGarcia-ov3fb5 жыл бұрын
@@SleepyGiant22 Stay positive, things in your life could be a lot worse im sure. Always look at the brighter side of situations. It sounds corny but its true, everything could always be x10 worse IMO. Took me a while to get over my last relashionship, got a new job and a new car and was instantly better. We all will find someone at somepoint in our lives, its just a matter of when. Be strong, move on, and learn from mistakes.

David Garcia it’s hard to admit you was abusive in past relationships. I didn’t realise me saying ‘if you don’t I’ll do this’ but more as a playful thing was starting to upset her. Same with being randomly moody, random outbursts of anger at normal things, making fun of her, not letting her enjoy herself with friends for fear that she was the same as before I met her (she actually turned out the same lol so I had a reason to be cautious and she lied the whole time and I basically got cheated on but worse). What I’m getting at is that as men we don’t like to admit to our wrongs especially when it effects our egos and our status to others, but admitting and working on it is the best we can do. Lots of emotionally abusive people don’t get help or realise they are probably suffering mental health issues and just put it aside.

This short film is, on the surface, a cautionary tale of the need to have one’s best interest in mind above all. The audience is presented with two vastly different subjects who recount their experiences with failed relationships. Despite their differences, the audience is intended to receive the same message from both subjects. The first subject is someone who would be considered a bit of a “loner” (to use contemporary descriptions). Their avatar (in this case, a hyper-metaphoric representation of their reality) is disheveled, slouched, and devoid of animation aside from the occasional restless leg. This subject describes their own obsession with foreign cartoons and a certain distaste for outward social interaction. By all accounts, this person would generally be outcasted. The other subject dons an extremely muscular and well postured character with orange skin and chic attire. This subject is significantly more confident sounding, talented, and obviously thrives in social interaction. (I believe the orange skin and friendly mannerisms are a political criticism to some regard; unrelated to this short film but still important to Syrmor’s filmography nonetheless). This subject is, without a doubt, a figure that many crave to be. However, they share a motif with the other subject. Both characters describe their close calls with people in their life who craved something in bad faith. Whether it be revenge for infidelity, security, money, or some other dastardly motive, these characters were the victims of some desire. Syrmor has often used duality or dialectics in the past to describe a particular theme. In this case, I believe Syrmor is cautioning against the participation of romantic and/or sexual relationships. The muscular character provided a lengthy list of symptoms for toxic relationships and there’s a reason for that length. It is because every single relationship is filled with these dangerous minefields that ultimately end terribly. Like a minefield in Cambodia, one begins to cross into a relationship thinking that everything is okay until meeting a tragic end previously veiled. The theme of such relationships is shared with a song by Tool, one of Syrmor’s greatest influences. “Swamp Song” from Tool’s “Undertow” album describes such a warning. One particular set of lyrics describes it perfectly: “This bog is thick and easy to get lost in / 'Cause you're a stupid, belligerent fucker!” Although abrasive, this warning describes a clear and present danger of relationships by referring to them as a bog. It is well known that love makes people stupid and belligerent, as well. This song, and this short film, serve as a warning to avoid groups and individuals who may mean harm by such entrapment.

Someone in one of my precious commentaries decided to baselessly attack the depth of my arguments by saying that Syrmor’s short films are not inherently political. I challenge anyone to prove me wrong with this work of Syrmor’s. Even the lowest sea creature could grasp even the scent of an ideological charge with this short film.
