at 10:51 why “买下” and not "买到” 都一样吗?
@sysmandarin2 жыл бұрын
买下 I feel more about the action of buying in the stores. 买到 more stating the result

I often see the “是。。。的” construction 13:50. I think I get the context but i'm not really sure how or when to use. Do you have any videos that explains the usage of this construction? 多谢你!

Thank you for the story, it was very interesting. But I don't understand why the meaning of the idiom was derived from this story. Just because many people think Jewels are more precious does not mean the man has to as well. He is happy with just buying the box and the seller got paid. Why do we have to look down on him?
@jenniferhomans7392 жыл бұрын
i think the story exemplifies the principle that beauty is in the eye of the beholder; i think it's cool the guy returned the pearl and wasnt trying to keep something he hadnt knowingly paid for; i do see what the lesson means, in that: because the seller had let the box and pearl go together at a mutually agreed on price, we can assume the seller thought was already a fair deal, and buyer didnt have to "really" return the pearl, but was choosing to be true to his own principles; the buyer returned "the essence", and because he had already made an agreed upon, fair deal, his action can be seen as ignorant or even arrogant.

Yes, the box could be priceless to the buyer & the pearl not. The idiom was probably representative of a time when artistic endeavours were not as prized as were jewels. Probably equated to manual labour. The idiom is probably equivalent to the english ‘All that glitters is not gold’ which still holds in modern times.
