Welcome to Day 3 of 30 Days of TWIR. Until tomorrow morning, you can use this comments section to decide what I will review on Day 6. The most-liked suggestion when I wake up tomorrow will be locked in for Thursday. I’ll recap the rules here, but for a deeper explanation, check out the Announcement video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooKrpJysZ895l80 Suggestions that do not follow the rules will be ignored or even deleted: 1) One suggestion per person per video. 2) No more than three movies in a row or 22 in total. 3) Should be experience-able in under 3 hours and cost less than $15 (possibly flexible). 4) No works by credibly accused predators. The next two reviews are Shunji Iwai’s All About Lady Chou-Chou and the Italian Netflix series Tear Along the Dotted Line. The full schedule is available here: theweekireview.com/events/month/2022-01/ Have at it!

I suggest "Muttertag" a 1993 austrian dark comedy. There should be subtitled versions out there that aren't too expensive

The trans visual novel game "Secret little haven" it can be finished in around 3 hours and it is currently $2.50 on steam, it is my favorite game, an exploration of nostalgia pf the late 90s/early 2000's trough a transfeminine lens

Question: it's part of the Queer Games Bundle 2 on Steam. Do you have any experience with the other games and is it worth getting the whole thing?
@fabbygarza98633 жыл бұрын
tldr: unless the games really call to you, you are probably fine not getting them long awnser: I am not familiar with around half of them, the ones i am are, a mixed bag 2064 read only memories is a really good cyberpunk game, but the creator was exposed as an abuser, the studio did get rid of him eventually but, yeah, thats up to you normal lost phone is a totally fine puzzle game, it has trans themes, its handled well, not like amazing but if you like solving mysteries its not bad, the sequel is less trans and more about revenge porn longstory is a very nothing visual novel that i believe was originally for phones, its fine, but its nothing especial

As January 9th quickly approaches, my request is for you to talk briefly about season 1, the 2 special episodes that came out focusing on Rue & Jules, and then a review of The Season 2 Premiere of Euphoria some time that same week.
@TheWeekIReview3 жыл бұрын
Is your suggestion for Thursday the two special episodes? Only suggestions specifically intended for Day 6 are accounted for here. (That said, I will absolutely be watching Euphoria Season 2 and probably do something about it, since I never did the first season...)

The novel or the movie?
@exittiming27893 жыл бұрын
Well I don’t think the novel slots quite into Alec’s requisite 3-hour window, so I’ll go with the movie. The existential themes of both are similar, though the book is a literary masterpiece even more relevant today

Review Ghost Quartet. It's a spooky song cycle about a woman who was wronged by her sister in one life and reincarnates into other lives in order to get revenge. The story is told out of order and involved timelines include stories of Scheherazade, The Fall of The House of Usher, and Thelonius Monk. It's madness and confusion in the best way. The whole performance is free on Dave Malloy's KZbin channel.

I suggest checking Druk or "Another Round". I have a Mads bias, but would be interested what you think.

My review suggestion is Outside - (Bo Burnham Mashup Album) by Lewis Wake Why i'm suggesting this for review: I think this project is interesting extension original themes of Inside as music album into current remix culture. Price of admission: Free on his youtube channel or His bandcamp page. Time Investment: 19:50 w/o bonus tracks, 23:50 with bonus tracks

I feel like this film actually shows a fully functional system that deals with the issues of people who suffer in this way, I think the actual criticism is how our overarching society lacks so much empathy and emotional intelligence that it turns its back on these people and overall offers no respite for people like benni from spiraling.

How about John Dies at the End? It’s a 2012 movie about well, basically the internet. A dude gets high off of a black substance that makes him see strange and terrible things that try to kill him and his friend, and the villain speaks like an Xbox live COD user. It’s funny but eldrich and terrifying. I found it interesting. Warning though, said villain does drop the f-slur.

I agree about the translation of the title. Systemsprenger is not a word made up for the title, it is a word that already exists and is used in pedagogy and psychology contexts in Germany, in the exact same meaning as it is used in the movies. It's someone (oftentimes a child) for whom the system is not set up and whom the "traditional" means of the social systems cannot or do not help. Someone who falls through the cracks. It's not an undebated term either, there has been criticism because it places the responsibility on the "Sprenger" ("crasher") not on the system. All of that context is lost in the English translation. It gets the point acorss and people understand why it's called that but there's some subtext that gets lost (even if your cultural background were from a country where the social systems are more similar to Germany's)

My suggestion is the album "Moss Grew on the Swords and Plowshares Alike" by Kayo Dot. Even though the album has two collaborators (Guitar soloist and a lyricist), it was mostly recorded and performed by Toby Driver at his home. That means synths, guitars, drums, bass, vocals, mixing, everything by this one guy. The dude has an extensive catalog of music and has always struggled to find a wider audience for his music due to how "challenging" some of his music and how often he's jumping genres (prior to this album which is billed as a gothic doom metal record, the previous records were a melodramatic goth rock opera, synth based progressive rock, and 80s inspired blade runner music). Would be cool to see this album get some more attention regardless of whether or not the review is favorable. I just hope you don't find his music too obtuse on first listen.
