Fun fact, all x86 and x86-64 (desktop) processors start in 16 bit mode when they are first powered on. Modern bootloaders then switch to 32 bit mode (and then 64 bit mode for 64 bit operating systems) before actually loading the OS. This is why you can still run MS-DOS (which runs in 16-bit mode) on modern desktop computers.
@scottmanley
@scottmanley 7 жыл бұрын
Actually, it's not required to start in Real Mode any more, and many platforms immediately mode select to Flat Protected Mode, making it impossible to run MS-DOS on those systems.
@d2factotum

Specifically, the modern UEFI BIOS does not require the boot loader code to be run in real mode, like the old PC BIOS does, so those will probably switch to protected mode as almost the first thing they do.

There's a movie from the 80's, low budget, of alien humanoids who visit Earth, leaving one guy up in orbit. He is just dilly-dallying in his suit outside of the ship, and then just lets out a sneeze, blowing snot and spit over his faceplate. It was funny, and for some reason I remembered it the next day in class where I started to giggle. The rest of the class began to giggle as well, not even knowing what started it. Good times.

I'm pretty sure you've done this before... And, while I might be exaggerating it in my mind, I thought you did it without using the map or external views... Which secured you in KSP godhood for the next eternity at least. Now... If you could just secure your periapsis in that arch, you could adjust your apoapsis to modify how fast the needle is threaded. I also have a feeling, with enough infernal magic (aka math) you could launch directly into the needle hole without extra maneuvering.

2:28 That's not what the Dunning-Kruger effect is, that's just underestimating the difficulty of tasks. The Dunning-Kruger effect is when you _think_ you're really intelligent or competent, but you're actually not at all and are incapable of realizing that. The corollary is when people who _are_ "intelligent" or competent either underestimate the difficulty of tasks because they themselves find them easy or underestimate their own ability because of their awareness of how difficult a task may be. Thus, underestimating the difficulty of a task alone isn't the actual effect. Point is, it's neither a technical statement of whether one has the _capability_ to realize one's own incompetence (that's just a side-effect) nor is it about underestimating the difficulty of tasks (another side-effect). It's specifically when someone of low competence is under the illusion that they have high competence in a task or are in general very competent. In other words, you're not under Dunning-Kruger if you think going to the Moon is easy, but you _are_ if you think _you_ could do it better than those who have done it, whilst simultaneously having no actual competence in it yourself.

it may sound complicated but once you get the general Idea it´s one of the easiest things, open your map set the object as target (click on it) let´s say your object is at a nice 100km orbit if it´s ahead of you you set your orbit lower maybe 90km and catch up to it (and a higher orbit if it´s behind you) now, when you are along side it but still with the 10 km apart you see your velocity it should say target but maybe it says orbit just above, click on it untill it says target, now your prograde marker on the nav ball isn't telling you where you are going, but in which direction you are traveling relative to the target so you just make sure your prograde is point at the target with about 30m/s, too fast and you can´t stop in time also too much speed makes it harder to correct which you´ll have to, the prograde will go slightly off target and when it gets too far you correct and repeat untill you get there and then rcs to dock. this is not the most effecient but definately the easiest. watch scott video though it teaches you everything.

Ah, the snes. I got a super famicom last year (my original snes was stolen a long time ago). mainly because the games are so much cheaper than western versions. Also there are more games. (1455 vs ~ 750 in the US and just 350 or so in PAL territories.) Chrono trigger is great, but my favourite RPG from the snes is Terranigma. Best graphics on the snes probably goes to seiken Densetsu 3. And Tales of phantasia really does crazy things with sound. (also some interesting visual effects). Both without any hardware add-ons too. Ah, the snes. Such a great machine.

If I were to open the window of the ISS and throw out an egg, how much delta-V can I give the egg; soley by the act of throwing?
@mic7337
@mic7337 7 жыл бұрын
You'll probably end up with quite a kick, because all the air would go out the window and cause much more acceleration than the egg.
@verdiss7487
@verdiss7487 7 жыл бұрын
You are literally asking how fast you can throw an egg. Probably a few tens of meters per second. As noted above, however, "opening" (read: destroying) a window on the ISS would cause the atmosphere to escape, and that would likely also accelerate the egg along with it.
@andujunior4756
@andujunior4756 7 жыл бұрын
You wouldnt get a kick as mic stated. You would get ripped out through that window even if you didnt fit and then most likley freeze to death if it is currently dark for you. If it isnt dark yiu might not freeze but boil. Im not entirely sure. If someone can please do correct me on this.
@TheSurvivalSecrets
@TheSurvivalSecrets 7 жыл бұрын
In this instance I'm assuming the ISS has been depressurised and is in equilibrium with space for simplicity; therefore I accept the former answer of a few tens of meters per second. I know baseball players can thow the ball up to 40 m/s or so, but in space I assume with the lack of gravity it would be more difficult to get a good swing.

If you fix your orbit just right, it's actually rather stress-relieving to sit through. Considering they both have multiple times tried to sneak in during his streams, usually after their bedtime, I'd say his kids think his videos are top. I'm sure by now they figured out that he sees them through his cam feed just fine.

Wouldn't this be 100x easier by just aiming prograde, with your nice big rocket on the back, but then having some RCS at the front and back of your ship for 'strafing' (like lining up to a docking port) to aim? I think you went super hard mode with this :D Anyway, TOTALLY agree with you that Rogue One was WAY better than Force Awakens. I REALLY love Rogue One, I think it's absolutely amazing and probably even the best Star Wars movie ever made imho.
